Chapter 24: Barbarian Warrior

Players from the human nation of Erathia’s Divine Hall were the most numerous among the travelers. There were Mages, Priests, Magic Archers, Arbalists, Magic Warriors, Lancers, Knights, Paladins, and Gunmen. These players who worshipped the god of the humans, Tarmis, made up the bulk of the Angelic Alliance.
Naturally, there were many warlocks among the travelers. Brakada was a nation of warlocks, after all. There were numerous warlocks among them, and they made up about 20% of the numbers, while Mechanical Alchemists only constituted about 1%. Without exception, they each brought with them their mechanical puppets. Most of them brought mechanical imps, while a few brought mechanical gargoyles. Along the way, Xiao Ling only saw two to three gargoyles.
As he looked at these lively mechanical imps and gargoyles that leapt about and carried on with their antics, Xiao Ling was filled with envy and jealousy. He thought that there were too many rich people in the world!
They traveled in small groups of six or seven and large groups of 40-50 as they made their way grandiosely toward the town of Frielanz.
Upon the highest observation tower in Eddins behind them, a majestic and loud horn was sounded with unbroken tones. It reverberated across the whole world for a long time. The Elder Council’s most powerful Destruction Warlock, Hux, was praying for the players making their way to the frontlines. His thick voice chanted a complicated and tart spell as he prayed, “My brave heroes, may the true god Terhida grant you protection. For the glory of the true god, for the glory of the king, defend Eddins, defend Brakada! May the true god Terhida be with you all.”
As he looked around at the eager players who were pumping themselves up to head toward the frontlines and kill their enemies, Xiao Ling suddenly felt a surge of hot blood within his chest. An unfamiliar passion was rising within him. Before he knew it, the glory of this nation seemed to have penetrated his marrow, affecting Xiao Ling and every other player.
When they were two kilometers from Frielanz Town, the players on the road began to break up, and proceeded to outflank the town.
Xiao Ling, on the other hand, took a detour and intended to bypass Frielanz.
The brassy and majestic note of the horn sounded again, traveling far and wide, and reverberating throughout Brakada. This was a war horn. It was intense and highly impactful. It made the listener’s blood boil, and battle drums sounded in reply. The players had begun their charge on Frielanz.
System: Black Fire (party) has defeated the enemy. Seized control of Frielanz Town’s third turret.
System: Dark Fire (party) has defeated the enemy. Seized control of Frielanz Town’s main gate.
…
The system notifications kept popping up. Frielanz Town was now a heated battlefield. It was said that Black Fire and Dark Fire were subordinate branches of the Divine Hall’s Fire Guild. As expected of the largest guild of the Angelic Alliance. Their subordinates were truly a cut above the rest.
Though Xiao Ling was curious about the battle situation, he decided to stay away out of safety considerations. After all, the only possible outcome for Xiao Ling if he ran into a player from the Evil Alliance would be death.
Xiao Ling walked up the slope some distance away from Frielanz. The slope was dotted with slender trees three to four meters tall. They were not exactly lush. Xiao Ling clambered onto a protruding rock and could faintly make out the situation at Frielanz. He saw flashes of blades, flashy display of martial skills, extravagant and intertwining shots of magic… It was a blurred yet splendid scene to behold.
Xiao Ling could even imagine how intense the battle had to be. He felt his temperature rise despite himself. He reminded himself of his current level: level 8. That was certainly not enough to take part in a battle of such a scale. He felt his spirits dampen.
‘Work hard to level up!’ Xiao Ling told himself with determination. When his level was high enough, he would certainly enjoy the ecstasy of fighting his heart out in battles like this.
Turning his eyes away from the battle at Frielanz, Xiao Ling walked toward the Reese Valley in the distance. Flowers were blooming all across the Reese Valley. A scenery that resembled paradise in Brakada attracted Xiao Ling’s attention.
Occasionally, Life Fairies the size of his palm would flutter past him as they beat their transparent wings on their back and scattered spots of green fluorescent light, which accentuated the beauty of the Reese Valley. These Life Fairies were granted the Goddess of Life Alice’s blessings. They did not take part in any battle, and no creatures would attack them. On Endace Continent, Life Fairies were the symbol of peace.
Xiao Ling continued to look at the cute fairies dancing in the air. He was filled with awe. There was nothing in the world more beautiful than Life Fairies.
Sounds of a battle reached his ears and broke the silence. Was someone fighting here?
A glaring radiance burst forth dozens of meters from where Xiao Ling stood. With a slight moment’s hesitation, Xiao Ling slowly walked over and stopped at a spot where the vegetation was thick. He looked toward the empty ground.
Charge!
Wild Dance!
This was a Barbarian Warrior. He was covered in thick, heavy silver chain armor of an exquisite design. The reversed barbs on the armor made it stand out. It shone with a mysterious silver-white radiance. It was clear that this armor had been forged with mithril. It should have a high magic resistance.
The Barbarian Warrior was almost two meters tall. Muscles bulged over his thickset body, which gave him a terrifying appearance even under the cover of his armor. His head was snugly covered by a silver-white horned helmet. Great white swords wider than five fingers were in both of his hands. He was facing off a Evil Alliance party made up of a Berserker, Death Knight, and a Necromancer.
Like the gladiators of the ancient Rome, the Barbarian Warrior was fearless even though he was on his own. The swords he brandished shone brightly with silver radiance. He charged toward his three opponents with lightning speed.
“Die, you vermin!” The Barbarian Warrior’s swords weaved in and out as he attacked. His extremely domineering attacks greatly intimidated the three Evil Alliance players. The Barbarian Warrior lived up to his reputation of being the main battle tank of the battlefield. The impact he unleashed was extremely terrifying.
‘But, can a level 40-ish Barbarian Warrior defeat three of his peers? This Barbarian Warrior might’ve been too reckless. Even though he saw that there were three of his opponents, instead of fleeing, he’s now charging straight toward them. This is strange, even for a Barbarian Warrior. Is he out of his mind?’ Xiao Ling thought.
The three Evil Alliance players were also experts of level-40 and above. They were not weak. Naturally, they wouldn’t be paralyzed with fear this easily.
Ritual of Death!
The Necromancer’s black staff drew an arc in the air. The ground shifted. White bony hands emerged from the earth, and more than 10 skeletons pulled themselves out from beneath the ground. They blocked the Barbarian Warrior’s way.
