Mr. He’s Daily Affections - Chapter 56
Chapter 56: She Is Perfectly Fine
The man’s expression turned cold. “Su Zhixi, there’s no need for you to put up a pretense in front of me.”
Su Zhixi scoffed, “Just treat me as a pretentious person, then.”
She knew that it held no meaning for her to follow him, but she had to do this—because Ning Yichen got hurt saving her; because she wanted to be sure he was fine. That was all.
Ning Yichen sneered and decidedly ignored her presence.
She did not mind it. While Ning Yichen was getting an X-ray, she finally found the time to reach for her phone, only to find that most of the missed calls were from an unsaved number.
She frowned and ignored these missed calls to open her WeChat. Shen Yunshan questioned her for her whereabouts persistently and even told her to not get panicked because they were scheduled to report around 10 AM.
10 AM. If I wait for Ning Yichen’s results to come out before rushing back, I should still make it in time.
She silently let out a breath of relief.
Soon after, Ning Yichen was back from his check-up. His injuries were not considered serious but were also not simple abrasions. He had a hairline fracture and had to rest in bed for a period of time.
Bone fracture.
She eyed his right calf, which was in a cast, and felt a little sad.
When Ning Yichen looked up and noticed her expression, his heart wavered a little and he could not resist mocking, “Why? Are you going to personally take care of me until I am fully healed?”
Su Zhixi paused. When she met his eyes that were filled with mockery, she felt a dull ache in her heart, as well as sorrow.
“Of course not.” She smiled lightly. “By the usual standard, I should be helping you fork out the hospital and treatment fees. However, since you are unlikely to accept it, I can only thank you.”
“No need for that.” He glanced at her, then continued, “I only have one request. Don’t let Lianxi know about today’s incident.”
“Alright.” Su Zhixi gave a bitter smile and tightened her grip on her phone. “Rest well. I’ll be off.”
With that, she turned around and left the ward.
From today onward, Ning Yichen only had one identity to her — Su Lianxi’s fiancé.
She suppressed the sourness and bitterness in her heart and directed her thoughts to the report she was about to present during the competition. At this moment, a tall man walked toward her. He was wearing a black trench coat, making his tall stature look even more lean. Due to his fast walking pace, his trench coat billowed noisily in the wind.
A few doctors in their white coats trailed after him.
Absorbed in her own thoughts, Su Zhixi did not mind him. The man inadvertently noticed her, though, and halted his footsteps.
“Su Zhixi?” he asked in surprise.
Su Zhixi was even more surprised when she suddenly heard her name being called. “Do you know me?”
The man eyed her and his lips split into a smile. Instead of answering her, he whipped out his phone to call a number. “…Yes, she is indeed at my hospital, but don’t worry. She is perfectly fine.”
With that, he hung up the call and smiled at her. “Follow me.”
Baffled, she replied, “But I don’t know you. Also, I—”
“I am the director of this hospital.” Huo Yanzhao cocked an eyebrow. “Don’t worry, I’m not a bad person.”
Director?
Su Zhixi was even more baffled. Still, she followed him.
Huo Yanzhao brought her into a lounge room. “Wait here for a while. He is already on the way and should be here soon.”
“…Who?” Su Zhixi felt disconcerted.
Huo Yanzhao frowned, and before he could speak, he heard audible scurrying footsteps from behind him.
He smiled lightly. “You will find out soon.”
