Mo Hanchen immediately followed and blocked her way.
“I’m sorry,” he apologised softly.
Mo Hanchen’s apology gave Meng Yue goosebumps. She subconsciously rubbed her arms.
Mo Hanchen saw her actions and said, “My legs are numb.”
As he said that, he limped and wanted to put his arm around her shoulder, but Meng Liang ignored him. “Stay away from me!”
Mo Hanchen pursed his lips. “I couldn’t sleep after I went home last night, so I came here and waited overnight for you. I’ve been sitting here for three hours!”
Meng Yue’s eyes flickered, uncertain if Mo Hanchen was being truthful.
“Wang Ye and I are not in the kind of relationship you are thinking of,” Mo Hanchen began. He took two steps forward, continuing, “Besides, you need to tell me if you’re feeling jealous. Otherwise, I won’t know whether you have feelings for me!”
Meng Yue’s grip on her handbag tightened. “You’re overthinking things. Why would I be jealous?”
She pushed Mo Hanchen away with her good hand and entered the elevator. “You don’t have to explain your relationship with Wang Ye. Whether you decide to eat with her or hug her, none of that has anything to do with me.”
Meng Yue breathed deeply and added, “I never asked you to sit out here all night or suffer for my sake.”
She looked up at him and said, “I’m a married woman; it isn’t appropriate for us to be so close.”
Her eyes conveyed her conviction as she pressed the ‘close’ button, refusing to entertain the conversation any longer.
Mo Hanchen stared at Meng Yue intently.
In the end, he reached out to stop the elevator just as it was about to close.
Mo Hanchen’s sudden action startled her, and she quickly pressed the ‘open’ button to prevent the doors from sliding shut.
“Mo Hanchen, you’re crazy!”
“What if you get it?” He asked, cornering her in the elevator.
“Mo Hanchen, what are you doing?” She squeaked, frightened by his intrusion into her personal space.
Meng Yue tried to slip out of the elevator under his arm, but he pulled her back.
“Be honest.”
Mo Hanchen ignored her struggles, pushing her injured hand away, and locking her between the elevator and his body.
“You’ll hurt yourself if you move.” The door slid shut.
Like a frightened rabbit, Meng Yue’s eyes widened as she stared at him. “Mo Hanchen, this is an elevator!”
“I know we’re in an elevator,” he answered, shooting the camera overhead a glance. “You’d better behave if you don’t want me doing anything in public.”
As he spoke, he leaned in towards her. “If you try me, I’ll do what I want whether or not we’re in an elevator. Need I remind you of the bathroom incident?”
Meng Yue turned pale, instantly recalling what happened on their first meeting. “Hooligan!”
Mo Hanchen’s twisted in a mockery of a smile. “You’ve only been scolding me with these few words. Can’t you say anything else?”
Meng Liang struggled to push her away. “Shameless!”
Her eyes hardened as she tried kicking him.
However, Mo Hanchen foiled her attempt, clamping onto her leg like some vicious clam.
“Ah. You must have been the one to kick Xiang Haoyu and send him to the hospital. Am I right?” He asked.
Meng Yue glared. “He deserved it!”
Mo Hanchen’s eyes lit up in appreciation. “You can kick him, but you can’t kick me!”
Meng Yue retorted swiftly: “If you act like a hooligan, I’ll kick you!”
Mo Hanchen inched closer to her face and teased her ear. “You? Kick me?”
“I’m going to kick you to death!” Meng Liang’s face turned even redder. However, she could not break free from his hold.
Intentionally or otherwise, Mo Hanchen, this hooligan of a man, was causing her heart to race. She tried to avoid his touch, fearing that he had heard her unconscious response.
“If you cripple me, no one can guarantee your future happiness.”
No matter how chaste Meng Yue tried to be, Mo Hanchen was sure to lead her astray.
“Mo Hanchen, shut up!” Her face was bright pink, the colour of a ripe peach. Using her uninjured hand, she pinched him brutally.
Mo Hanchen stiffened.
He did not feel pain, no. It was closer to a throbbing welling up from the depths of his soul.
“Yueyue…”
Meng Yue looked up and met Mo Hanchen’s deep gaze. If she still did not know what the man was thinking at such a time, her life would have been in vain.
“Hooligan!”
This time, Meng Yue was actually angry.
“Mo Hanchen, I’ll say it again: I’m married! I’m a married woman. We can’t be together!”
Mo Hanchen’s expression turned cold. “Back with calling yourself a married woman, are you?”
“Meng Yue, are you using the excuse of ‘being married’ to reject me? Or is it to remind yourself of your legal status?”
Meng Yue looked down, unable to refute him.
The sadness in her eyes hurt Mo Hanchen.
“Well? Which is it?” Mo Hanchen asked.
Meng Yue looked up, tears welling in her resentment-filled eyes. “Mo Hanchen, stop forcing me!”
Mo Hanchen switched tactics. “Xiang Haoyu isn’t as honest as you think. He is a man of no credibility. Reason and contractual obligations won’t work for him.”
“I’ll stop forcing you, but I’ll take things into my own hands. I’ll settle the divorce for you,” he said.
Meng Yue frowned. “Don’t. I’ll handle it myself!” Struggling with all her might, she continued, “You’re not anyone to me right now. Don’t stick your nose where it doesn’t belong!”
However, Mo Hanchen did not release her. Her struggles were in vain.
Mo Hanchen felt he was going to go crazy at this rate. “Meng Yue, I dare you to repeat yourself!”
Meng Yue trembled in the face of Mo Hanchen’s cold rage, but she persevered. “You aren’t anything to me yet, so stop meddling in my affairs!”
No sooner had she spoken than a loud bang resounded next to her ears. Mo Hanchen had punched the elevator wall, causing the lift to shake violently.
Meng Yue was shocked by the casual display of violence and subconsciously shielded her head.
“Mo Hanchen, are you crazy?”
Mo Hanchen’s eyes were bloodshot. “So what if I am?!”
“Meng Yue, you’re driving me crazy!” After saying that, the man bit her shoulder like a madman. He wanted to tear her apart, to bite off her flesh as compensation for her ruthless disregard for him.
“Stop; It hurts!”
Her pleas fell on deaf ears. Mo Hanchen only stopped when he tasted blood.
Staring at her frightened gaze, he gently wiped the tears dripping down her cheeks. “Meng Yue, don’t ever say you’re a ‘married woman’ again. You can’t fool me.”
Mo Hanchen forced her to look into his eyes. “You may be married, but you’re still mine!”
More quietly, he added, “Or would you prefer I inform Xiang Haoyu that we’ve already done ‘it’, that you’ve given me your first time?”
Meng Yue lost all colour on her face, and she shook her head rapidly to say no.
“You can’t!” “You can’t!” “You can’t!”
Mo Hanchen nearly fell to insanity once more, hearing her pain-filled screams.
He held her hand against his chest, where his heart pounded feverishly. “Can you feel that? It’s me going crazy. You’re driving me crazy!”
Meng Yue, having no choice, felt the thunderous beats of Mo Hanchen’s heart against her skin. That did not stop her from looking away, avoiding eye contact as much as she could.
She would never fake her divorce; she had too much pride to cling to a relationship that would never work.
Mo Hanchen was right about one thing. Xiang Haoyu was a scumbag, and he would likely do everything in his power to foil her chances of being free of him.
Yet, she could not lead Mo Hanchen on when her position was still precarious. If word got out about her relationship with him, not only would she and her family suffer, but so would he and the Moyun Group.
Moreover, was Mo Hanchen someone she could entrust her life to? She did not know.
Why would he behave so intimately with Wang Ye if they weren’t in a relationship? Even if it had all been an act, no one acts so convincingly unless there is some truth behind what they’re doing.
Outside of her marriage to Xiang Haoyu, Meng Yue had always prided herself on her rational mind. She could not afford to let down her guard around someone else, especially not if that someone was Mo Hanchen.
