Smith’s retirement home was rather far away, so Luo Su took around five days to finally get back to Cross’s territory. Once he arrived at the abandoned factory, Luo Su decided not to just wait around like a fool and gave Cross a call.
Upon learning that Luo Su had returned, Cross came back as quickly as he could. He had a nasty scowl on his face, and he barely managed a stiff smile upon seeing Luo Su.
“What’s wrong? Your face looks like the world has ended!”
Cross had a dark look in his eyes as he tersely replied, “It really is the end of the world! The end of my world!”
“If that’s the case, you might as well explain what’s going on so that I can feel a little happier.” Luo Su continued in an infuriating manner, “Let me guess. Sloan sent you a photo, one where Wesley was forced to eat oilfish and then was beaten with sticks by a bunch of big men?”
After not listening to Luo Su talk for a while, Cross was momentarily unable to adapt. He fiercely glared at Luo Su, but then he realized that his mood had somewhat improved.
Cross said in frustration, “Wesley! The Fraternity trained Wesley into a proper assassin. The one thing that I didn’t want to happen happened.”
Luo Su patted Cross on the shoulder. He opened his mouth to say a few comforting words, but when he realized that his words might have the opposite effect, he quickly shut his mouth.
Cross pushed aside Luo Su’s hand. “I’m preparing to meet with Wesley and tell him the truth. If I don’t do this now, there might be no going back for him.”
Luo Su. Just like with his parents, it was better to climb out of the pit that was the assassination business early, or you might never escape.
Cross gave a simple summary of his plan. “I need your help. I’ll think of a way to get close to Wesley while you draw away the other members of the Fraternity!”
Luo Su did not refuse. His World Mission was to destroy the Fraternity and personally end Sloan’s life. Wesley was a powerful asset that he couldn’t do without, and getting him on their side would help him out with his World Mission.
Luo Su wasn’t worried that Cross would be killed by Wesley as had happened in the movie. Wesley really did have the potential to be a top-class assassin, but Cross was also a genius, and he was someone who had fully realized his genius. Wesley had only been taken by the Fraternity a little less than two weeks ago. Even if he was a cheating main character, this couldn’t possibly make up for the more than twenty years his father had over him.
Cross took a pile of photos out and spread them out on the table. “I’ll explain to you some of the Fraternity’s core members, the assassination methods they’re skilled in, and their habits. This is very important, and you’d better listen closely for the sake of your own life.
“This is Sloan, the leader of the Fraternity and our greatest foe…
“This is Fox. She’s very strong. She was the woman who took Wesley away that night!
“This is the Exterminator, a Russian skilled in explosives. I like those bomb-carrying rats he designed, a very interesting idea. You don’t need to worry about him for now. Last night, when I was following Wesley, he was badly wounded by a gunshot and probably won’t be good for anything.
“This is the butcher, an extremely fat man who kills pigs. He’s a master with melee weapons, so don’t fight him in close combat.
“This is the Gunsmith…
“This is the Repairman…”
“This is…”
“…”
Once Cross was done, he placed the picture of the Exterminator on the side. The ones left were the main foes they had to face. Luo Su saw two flipped-over photos on the side. Flipping them back up, he saw that they were of Slickback and an ordinary middle-aged man. They both had a red ‘X’ on them, indicating that they were deceased.
Luo Su pointed at the middle-aged man and curiously asked, “Who’s this fellow?”
Cross flipped the photos back down and then drew a question mark on the Exterminator’s photo. “That’s a Breach. His strength wasn’t bad, but he’s dead now.”
Luo Su said in understanding, “You killed him?”
“Of course. You didn’t think I was just sitting on my hands while you were gone, did you?”
Looking at the photos, Luo Su massaged the bridge of his nose. “Very good. The enemy is strong and has your son as a hostage. Our chances of winning are good.”
Cross understood the implied meaning in Luo Su’s words, and earnestly said, “I have some good news. The politician Sloan made a connection with is dead. Now that he doesn’t have any government backing, we’ll be able to move around much easier. What happened with Fox that night won’t happen again.
Luo Su was startled. The politician that Cross spoke of, could it be…
“What? You didn’t see the news?” Cross smiled. “The politician with the highest chance of becoming president, Senator Rutledge, died in a plane crash. He was the politician who Sloan had formed connections with. This plane crash was wonderful news to me. If he managed to become president, Sloan would have become even more unrestrained.”
Luo Su’s jaw dropped, and he didn’t know if he should laugh or cry. “This wasn’t a plane crash. That unfortunate fellow was killed by Smith. It was like this…blah blah…yadda yadda…you understand?”
It was now time for Cross’s jaw to drop. He had never imagined that Luo Su would go through an adventure with so many twists and turns. And as for Smith, he was truly a good friend. Even when he was a thousand miles away, he didn’t forget to lend him a helping hand.
…
The Fraternity!
Through cruel and abusive training, Wesley was swiftly uncovering the potential in his blood and maturing into a proper assassin.
As they said, men and women paired well together. With Fox’s help and encouragement, Wesley had learned the Bullet that a genius would need 20 years to master in a single day.
Wesley had already surpassed 90% of the Fraternity’s assassins, and all he lacked compared to the remaining 10% was an experience…the experience of killing someone.
Sloan had arranged several targets for Wesley to kill, but the kindhearted Wesley was unable to kill a stranger that he knew nothing about. After hesitating several times, he failed to pull the trigger.
At the crucial moment, Fox had come forward and explained the importance of the Loom and the tragedy that would take place if they didn’t kill their target.
As expected, Wesley chose to believe in 36C…no; he chose to believe in Fox. Using the skill he had learned, he had successfully killed his targets.
Bursting with confidence, Wesley had asked Sloan if he could kill Cross. He was anxious to avenge his father, Slickback.
Yes, Sloan had said that Cross was the one who had killed Slickback.
As for Luo Su…after investigating Slickback’s body, Sloan had decided to drop Luo Su’s danger level one level. Moreover, he had found Wesley to deal with Cross. Even if Slickback had died by choking on water, Cross would still have taken the blame.
Thus, when Wesley asked, Sloan agreed without hesitation. He knew that Wesley was no match for Cross, but there was no time for Wesley to mature. Senator Rutledge had died, and Sloan needed to find a new backer. Taking care of the Cross could no longer be delayed.
Sloan also went to find Fox and had her go with Wesley. At the same time, she ordered her to kill Wesley once Cross was dead.
Fox silently accepted the mission. Every person mentioned by the Loom had a reason for their death. Even if they did not present a current danger to society, they would inevitably do so in the future.
Killing one to save many was the reason for the Fraternity’s existence. Fox firmly believed in this ideal!
Wesley began to investigate Cross enthusiastically. He found the old man who provided Cross his special bullets and threatened the old man to arrange a meeting with Cross. He would hide with Fox and wait for the right moment to strike.
In truth, the Fraternity had already discovered Cross’s relationship with the old man, but Sloan wasn’t confident that he could kill Cross. As a result, he did not pursue the clue, and now, he could let Wesley use it.
But not even the members of the Fraternity realized that this was a situation set up by Cross. He wanted to meet with Wesley!
