Chapter 22: Chapter 022 – Versus Fox

The old man was an outstanding actor, perfectly enacting the helplessness and timidity of a lonely old man, completely hoodwinking Wesley. He told Wesley that he had arranged to meet with Cross on a train and then rushed to the train station the very next day.
Wesley and Fox hid in the shadows of the train station and observed the old man’s actions. Wesley was in his overconfident phase and was certain that he could kill Cross.
This was just how young people were. After beating two mediocre opponents, they felt like they were invincible!
The perfume of the busty woman at his side also had Wesley’s heart racing. He was fascinated by Fox’s charm and had decided to start courting her once Cross was dead.
As Wesley watched the old man, he began to chat with Fox. “Fox, have you ever considered changing lifestyles?”
Fox continued to coldly observe as she replied, “What do you mean?”
“To live the life of an ordinary married couple, driving the kid to school every morning before going to work, putting on beautiful clothes on the weekends and going shopping with your girlfriends, or maybe getting a little romantic with your husband, with a candlelit dinner in a restaurant while a piano is softly playing the background…”
After a few seconds of silence, Fox coldly replied, “No, I’ve never thought about it. I hate that sort of boring life!”
Fox was lying. There was no woman who didn’t want to live a blessed and happy life, particularly an assassin who lived a life balancing on the tightrope of life and death. She was exhausted in both body and mind and strongly desired a warm and gentle harbor to rest. No matter how charming Fox was, she couldn’t escape this desire, but unfortunate circumstances in her childhood had made her firmly committed to the beliefs of the Fraternity. She lived to kill those who were a danger to society so that her tragic childhood would not repeat itself in other homes.
This was why, in the movie, after Fox learned that Sloan had been fabricating the codes from the Loom, she had chosen to commit suicide. Her convictions had collapsed, and she found that she had become the person she loathed the most.
Fox could hear the courting signals in Wesley’s tone, and she also had a good impression of Wesley, but when it came to her convictions and her personal feelings, she chose without hesitation to abandon her emotions. Thus, she coldly rejected Wesley.
The confession hadn’t even started, and the romance was already over, dealing Wesley a heavy blow. With their various emotions, the two of them fell silent, and even when the old man used this chance to run, they still hadn’t come back to their senses.
By the time the two of them had realized what was going on, it was too late. The old man had run into the crowd, displaying agility that did not match his age. The bottoms of his feet seemed to be covered in oil, and with just a few turns, he was gone.
Wesley and Fox frenziedly pursued through the train station, hoping to find any trace of the old man. They knew that if they lost the clue that was the old man, they would find it very hard to find Cross again.
They were about to split up when Wesley spotted Cross waving to him from the train that was just about to start moving. With the killer of his father right in front of him, Wesley charged into the train, his eyes red with bloodlust.
The door closed, and the train began to slowly leave the platform, leaving behind a dumbstruck Fox. Seeming to realize something, she ran out of the train station, hijacked a car, and began to pursue the train along the tracks.
Fox pressed the pedal to the metal. All she was thinking at this point was that she could not leave Wesley alone with Cross.
The trains in America were slow, and their ticket prices were high. They were so slow that, for some routes, even buses were faster. They were more than a generation behind the trains of China, and the cost-performance ratio made them unsuitable for travel.
For these various reasons, Americans didn’t like to use trains unless it was absolutely necessary. And as trains gradually shifted from methods of transportation into methods of sightseeing, they became slower and slower.
The train Fox was chasing was one of those sightseeing trains that traveled between states. Onboard, one could appreciate the beauty of nature, and the train would travel deep through the mountains and old forests. Thus, Fox quickly caught up.
The car and the train remained level with each other, and Fox could see Wesley fighting Cross through the windows. As she took out her beloved modified M1911, she suddenly noticed something in the rearview mirror and quickly drew her hand back from the window.
Pa!
A gun fired, shattering the outside rearview mirror, and she heard a rumbling engine getting closer and closer. Looking through the rearview mirror, Fox saw a pitch-black Ford F-150 getting closer and closer. She could even see Luo Su giving her the middle finger from the driver’s seat.
She recognized Luo Su as Slickback’s killer and silently cursed as she fired behind her. But Luo Su didn’t give her a chance and fired a shot that shattered her back window, forcing her to drive in an S pattern to stay alive.
Fox’s speed dropped, and the train was heading into the mountains. Seeing that the road ahead was blocked off, she placed her hand on the steering wheel, killing intent flashing in her eyes.
Bang!!
The F-150 picked up speed and slammed into the back of the car, pushing it toward the mountain. If the car was allowed to impact, that large bust would end up turning into a pancake.
In a perilous situation, Fox hammered the brakes and entered Bullet Time. First, she slung a bullet out behind her, and then she unbuckled her seat belt and jumped out of the driver’s seat.
Sensing the danger, Luo Su lunged into the passenger seat and hammered on the brake. The bullet passed over his head and shattered the window on the other side. And the second before he crushed the car, he successfully jumped out of the Ford pickup truck.
After landing, Luo Su rolled on the ground several times and hid in the bushes.
“System, use ‘Character Card: Smith’! Don’t equip the skin!”
[User has equipped ‘Character Card: Smith’. Time limit of 240 seconds, starting now.]
After equipping Smith’s Character Card, Luo Su could clearly sense the shift in his senses. This wasn’t just sharper eyesight and faster hands. His thoughts were moving faster, and he felt like he had a 3D model of the surrounding terrain, with a stream of tactics flowing through his mind.
So strong!
It was only for 4 minutes, but that was more than enough for an expert!
Bang! Bang!
Reacting almost purely on instinct, his eyes not even pinning down Fox’s location, Luo Su fired two shots in front of him.
As he fired, Fox fired two shots of her own. In slow motion, one could see the four bullets colliding in the air as Fox intercepted Luo Su’s bullets.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Luo Su had obtained a great deal of information regarding Fox from Cross, including the types of guns she liked, her various parameters, and Cross’s danger assessment. Fox didn’t have Wesley’s assassin bloodline, but she was an authentic genius who had a master of Bullet Time on par with Slickback.
Luo Su had experienced Bullet Time and had fought with Slickback. Slickback was able to briefly enter Bullet TIme three times, and Luo Su estimated that Fox was the same.
It couldn’t be any higher, or else Cross would have chosen Fox as his sniping target, not Slickback!
Luo Su knew just how terrifying Bullet Time was, so he constantly fired so that the initiative remained firmly in his grip. 100% accuracy was truly a frightening thing. Fox was able to predict the trajectories of the bullets. Knowing that she couldn’t dodge, she could only use her own bullets to block.
The power of the M1911’s 11.43mm-bullets was great, but it didn’t have much of an advantage in a collision with 9mm bullets. Their collisions caused both bullets to drop to the ground rather than the 11.43mm bullet shattering the 9mm bullet and then continuing on toward Luo Su.
That was something that would only appear in science fiction! This world was still one that pursued objective reality!
Newton: You son of a…****************************
Ahem, as Mister Newton’s language was overly agitated, he has been moved out of this group.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
After four more gunshots, Fox’s clip was empty. Her modified M1911 wasn’t running two ammo clips, and even with her extended magazine, she still had fewer shots than Luo Su’s M9. Once she was out of bullets, she rolled into a depression.
As she took her remaining extended magazine from her belt, her eyes went cold. The situation was extremely bad for her.
