Multiverse’s End - Chapter 43
Chapter 43: Chapter 043 – Street Racing Club
Flat-soled shoes, jeans, a gray leather jacket, 20 US dollars, a driver’s license—this was all the property Luo Su had on him. As he knew nothing about himself, he could only rely on the driver’s license to confirm who he was.
It was an M-1 license for driving a motorcycle. The picture on the license was Luo Su himself, with the proper gender, height, weight, hair color, and eye color. But there was something wrong with the date of birth.
September 5th, 1984!
Upon seeing this age, Luo Su thought that he would be pushing forty in this world, but that wasn’t the case at all. The gas station store had today’s newspaper, which indicated that the year was 2002.
This was great news, as it meant that Luo Su had gone from 25 all the way back to the spring of his youth, the tender age of 18…though he had always believed that he was eighteen!
Age wasn’t the important thing. The important thing was that he had a home address on the license. It wasn’t like in the world of ‘Wanted,’ where despite not being some unregistered citizen, he had no idea where he lived.
Vroooom!!
Another mountain motorcycle drove over. The driver took off their helmet, revealing a golden-haired youth with smooth and tender skin and a somewhat handsome appearance.
“Playboy, you’re late!”
“Bret, why’d you only get here now?”
Several people grumbled, and that golden-haired youth called Bret unhappily replied, “My dad went to work and told me to watch the ostriches at home. I only just barely managed to get away.”
“Wow, you’re screwed then. Your dad’s the mayor! It’s no joke if he gets angry!”
“That’s right! Your butt will get kicked six ways to Sunday!”
Bret snorted, “Come on! He’s just my stepfather. If he actually dares to hit me, I’ll call the cops and get him arrested.”
“Mate, that’s how it should be. We’re all looking forward to it.”
“Hahahaha, ~~.”
All of them heartlessly laughed, Bret being one of them. Once they were done laughing, Bret put his helmet back on. “Brothers, let’s go all out today and show them just how good we are!”
“Of course! We’re the best!”
“Let them cry, get on their knees, and suck our balls!”
“You’ve got weird tastes…but I approve!”
Vrooom! Vroooom!
The young men began to make their motorcycles roar, and then like wild horses breaking off free of their reins, they took off in groups of three or five.
Luo Su put on his own helmet and followed. Since he had appeared near these motorcyclists, there was a high chance of triggering the World Mission while being around them. Even if it didn’t, there was no harm in taking a look around, gathering more information so that he could understand this unfamiliar world.
The system was just too trash. He could only rely on himself to determine which world this was.
The young men loudly shouted as they drove down the highway. There was nothing on either side, but sand and shrubs, and tall cacti could be seen wherever one looked.
The American countryside, far from any major city—this was Luo Su’s first reaction, and he quickly confirmed it. He saw a road sign indicating that he was in the state of Arizona.
There was saying he had heard once claiming that a hostile environment produced poisonous creatures, and he felt that this saying was the truth. In this region of sand and shrub, Luo Su didn’t see many wild animals, but he saw quite a few lizards, scorpions, and rattling rattlesnakes.
The ten-minute journey quickly came to an end. Fortunately, they didn’t run into any police. Otherwise, this group of ten-some people would have all been arrested for illegal street racing on the highway and have their licenses suspended.
Their destination was a canyon between two mountains. There was a large crowd gathered here, at least one hundred people, all of them young men of around twenty years of age.
Several carts were selling snacks, beer, water, soda, and hot dogs. At the very center was a fat black man with a golden chain who was taking bets, surrounded by many people.
“Bret, you only get here now? And here I thought your town of Prosperity had chosen to forfeit!” The fat man shook the golden chain on his neck and loudly rebuked.
In the face of the man’s imposing girth, Bret tried to put up a strong front, but he rather lacked in confidence as he replied, “How can that be? Even if I didn’t plan to win the two thousand bucks, I at least have to try and get back the registration fee. The truth is that there was a small accident. I…”
The fat man waved a hand and impatiently said, “Enough, I don’t care about why you’re late. Get ready. The competition begins in twenty minutes.”
It was obvious what was going on here. This black fatty was holding an illegal racing competition, and Bret’s group had joined for the reward. In this world, Luo Su was a member of the street racing club representing the town of ‘Prosperity.’
Luo Su didn’t like this identity. He had been a police officer before, so he had a very bad impression of motorcycle street racing clubs. Rather than studying, they used the money their parents had given them to play with their lives.
This was a group that could easily rile up the disgust of the public. This was primarily because it disturbed the public and also threatened their lives and property. Moreover, this group mostly consisted of inexperienced youths who were bursting with energy and curiosity, who enjoyed courting death.
They were infatuated with street racing because they were rebellious youths who wanted to make mischief. They loved the excitement and chasing down the limits of speed. Through their extremely dangerous actions, they won the approval of the rest of the group and the attention of the opposite sex.
It had to be said that both men and women felt a primitive desire for speed. Compared to cars, motorcycles were much cheaper to acquire and could easily satisfy the needs of this group of people.
The thrill of speed made the heart pump faster, and there was money and love to be won. Young men couldn’t help themselves, and it was no wonder that repeated prohibitions had failed to do anything.
Street racing had always been illegal in America, and the cops were vigorous in their enforcement of the law. But whenever money was involved, not even the cops could do anything. Moreover, once ‘The Fast and the Furious’ movies started airing, men increasingly began to equate speed with charm, giving the police a massive headache.
Luo Su didn’t like his current identity, but…seeing as he was 18, he reluctantly did so.
The age of 18 was truly wonderful!
…
Vrooom! Vrooom!
The roaring of engines bounced off the walls of the canyon. As the competition start time approached, the cheers and shrieks grew louder and louder. Helmets of different colors stood out in the sunlight. There were around 70 drivers here, and all of them were around the same age. They represented the six towns in the area.
There was one town that had sent twenty-some people. This was Prosperity’s biggest competitor. All of them were dressed in racing uniforms, but that was completely pointless. They were just kids, not professionals, and just because they were dressed professionally didn’t mean they had the skills to match. They simply looked impressive.
The fat black man raised his signal gun while his other hand held a loudspeaker, “Listen up, kids! One lap around the course! The fastest one back wins! The rules…there are no rules!
“The course runs by the colored flags. There’s someone with a video camera at each colored flag, so don’t even think about cheating!
“First place gets 2000 dollars, second place 500, and third place 100. After third, you don’t even get back your registration fee!
“Let me reemphasize the rules one last time. The rules of this freestyle race are…there are no rules!”
“Wooooo!”
The crowd howled and roared, and their necks were red as they waved around their tickets and cheered in support of the drivers they thought had the best chance.
Vroom! Vrooooom!
The drivers revved up their motorcycles. They were all amateurs, some of them have only recently obtained their licenses, but it was fine. The roaring of the engine heated up their blood and thickened the air of competition. They were all bursting with fighting intent, each of them wanting to be the first around the course.
The victory meant money and girls, and the right to jeer at the losers!
The fat man couldn’t help but feel proud of the air of competition he had fostered. He was in an excellent mood today. He had already made back the reward money through ticket sales, and if he counted the money from the betting, he would make at least ten thousand dollars today.
“Start on the signal. Start early, and you’ll be immediately disqualified.” The fat man looked around and raised his hand, indicating that the crowd should begin cheering.
The crowd in the canyon began to count down loudly.
“3!”
“2!”
“1!”
“Go!”
Vrooooom!
