Multiverse’s End - Chapter 44
Chapter 44: Chapter 044 – It’s an Omen of Disaster
Vrooom!
Vrooooom!
As the signal gun fired, the 70 drivers took off on their motorcycles, the rumbling of their engines instantly exploding over the racecourse. The passion of the canyon was pushed to a new high, and the crowd immediately began to howl and cheer.
The fat man was very cheap, and he was also limited by the surrounding environment. Thus, there was no live broadcast, and the only way to get a live understanding of the situation was through his phone.
But as the signal was awful, there were a lot of mistaken reports. However, this did not dampen the enthusiasm of the crowd. The canyon was both the start and the end. They were here to see who got first place, and the majority of them were gamblers who cared more about the result. Few people here were actual fans of freestyle motorcycle races.
Outside of the canyon was just sand and shrubs. The sand didn’t provide much friction, and the area was very wide and spacious, with flags set up only every one hundred meters. Thus, it was easy to fall behind, and the seventy drivers soon divided into three tiers.
The first tier was made of ten people exactly, but there wasn’t much differentiating them from the second tier. They were rather close to each other, but the race had only just begun, and there was no guarantee that this situation would last until the end.
Things were different for the third tier. More than half of the competitors were in this group. They had purely come to join in on the fun, seeking an atmosphere that could make their blood race!
Luo Su had a firm position in the first tier. He had never driven a motorcycle on the sand, but he had the Driving Proficiency skill, which was more than enough to deal with some amateurs.
The engine of his motorcycle growled as it suddenly shot forward several dozen meters, stirring up a line of sand as it made a turn in the course.
Several dozen motorcycles were caught up in this cloud of sand, and from the sky, one could see shooting out from the cloud of sand-like arrows.
Underground motorcycling races were constantly moving around, so the racing courses were all made using the material at hand, and the obstacles were purely natural.
Green! Environmental! Cost-efficient!
The desert, slope, wasteland, and even the highway were all ready-built. The only thing that fat man needed to do was shovel at a few holes and stick flags in.
The first turning point had been reached, and the leading group followed the flags from the desert onto the highway. Cars on the highway in the American countryside were very rare, but no matter how rare they were, the danger still existed. This group of hot-blooded youth had no regard for their lives, accelerating so much that their motorcycle tires squealed against the asphalt and letting out black gouts of smoke that flew out like wild beasts escaping from cages.
This course was a test of a motorcycle’s performance and tires. Those without good engines were quickly left in the dust. Put bluntly; it was a test of money. If you didn’t put in enough money, you couldn’t close the distance.
If you couldn’t close the distance, you couldn’t win, and if you didn’t win, you didn’t get the money or the girls, and in the end, you had to go home as a loser and content yourself with your hand.
Summarized, no money meant being single, and only by spending money could get girls!
No Money = Single!
The first group and second group divided up into several more groups. The difference between good engines and ordinary engines quickly caused a very obvious shift in the rankings.
The group of drivers that were all dressed the same gradually squeezed their way to the head of the pack. Luo Su’s motorcycle was average, so he fell into the second group. Of the ten-some youths representing Prosperity, only Bret remained in the first group. After all, he was the mayor’s son, so it was only natural that his engine was of high quality.
A few spectators were scattered along the road. Once the first two groups passed, they began to drive back to the starting point. If they were fast, they could get back in time to see the winner.
This sort of behavior wasn’t very friendly to the third group of drivers. Their way was blocked, and if they had to detour, it would be even harder to catch up. Thus, they decided to give up and also head back to the starting point.
The second turning point of the course appeared. It was a chasm around ten meters wide. It was an artificial one that was rather old. There were shrubs growing at the bottom, and it was about five meters deep. The cushioning effect of the sand meant that there was no need to worry about falling to your death if you failed to make the jump.
There were many more spectators here. They had come precisely to see the motorcycles fly across the gap, not caring one bit about the winner. They would be more than satisfied to see this test of skill.
There was an obvious slop in front of the gap that could be used, the ideal jumping point. As long as one was fast and daring enough, it was easy to get across the gap. But not everyone dared, and not everyone was confident that they could land safely. Thus, some people chose to jump the gap while others chose to drive through.
In the first group, five people, including Bret, managed to make the jump. The others either fell into the chasm or drove in, but the sand on the slope upward hindered their progress in getting out.
Jeers and cheers rang out endlessly. For each beautiful jump, the crowd would shriek, but it would heartlessly scoff at those who embarrassed themselves.
There were few who tried to detour around the chasm. It was very long and went far off the course, so going around would take too much time.
Luo Su was at the front of the second group, his motorcycle traveling at an extremely steady and fast speed. At the slope, he accelerated and shot into the air. His beautiful form as he soared into the air won him the ecstatic cheers of the crowd. After landing, he still didn’t feel satisfied, so after driving a distance, he slammed on the accelerator, making his front wheel loudly shriek.
The third turning point in the course soon came into view, a road through a craggy canyon.
There were rocks, shrubs, and massive cacti in the canyons, uneven slopes, and holes. This part of the course was a test of skill. It was impossible to keep going at full speed, so the first group had slowed down. They were amateurs, so they needed to be careful on this part of the course.
Vrooom! Vrooom!
Luo Su slowed down, jumped over a pile of rocks, maneuvered around some cacti, and then when he encountered a pit, he slammed on the gas and jumped right over. With his Driving Proficiency, he was still a distance from a driving master, but in the eyes of a novice, he was already an unreachable veteran driver.
The five drivers in the first group could only watch as Luo Su caught up and then took the lead. This put a lot of pressure on them, and two of the drivers tried to imitate Luo Su, but all they ended up doing was crashing into pits.
His engine roaring, Luo Su’s motorcycle charged out of the canyon at the fastest speed, leaving behind a long trail in its wake.
Cheers came from outside the canyon. Clearly, the crowd had seen that Luo Su had taken the lead.
Past the canyon was the highway, and then the desert again. The distance Luo Su had created in the canyon was too great, and he was so far ahead that he couldn’t even hear the engines of his pursuers.
As his motorcycle entered the desert part of the course, he spotted the canyon where the race had started. He twisted the handles of his motorcycle, and then a ball of smoke came out of the back of his motorcycle as he shot forward at full speed.
“The champion! Ladies and gentlemen, we have the first place! Give it up for your winner!!!”
The black man loudly shouted, and the crowd waved their arms and showered beer everywhere as they watched Luo Su charge to the finish line.
“Wonderful! A beautiful performance!”
“He was the fastest to get out of the canyon. When I saw the video, I just knew that he would be first!”
“…”
If someone was happy, others were sad. The gamblers threw down their tickets, cursed a little, and then drove off. But quite a few people stayed to see who got second and third.
Luo Su had barely stopped his motorcycle and put a foot on the ground when several beautiful girls walked up to him and started to squeal over his firm muscles.
Surrounded by blonde-haired blue-eyed women, Luo Su wanted to reject them, but he was outnumbered, and his hands were shackled. He couldn’t break free unless he exerted his strength.
With Luo Su’s strength, it was easy enough for him to break free, but he didn’t want to injure anyone, so he just let them be…really, he wanted to refuse!
Around five minutes later, the second place appeared.
It was Bret. He took off his helmet and looked in disbelief at Luo Su as if he recognized this person for the first time.
The third and fourth place came almost at the same time. They were only half a minute behind Bret. Third place had a reward for comforting him, but the fourth place could only dejectedly drive away.
The fat man confirmed through his phone that he hadn’t cheated, so he proceeded to hold a stack of dollar bills aloft and stuff them into Luo Su’s pocket as the crowd cheered on. As he was drawing his hand away, he pinched Luo Su a little and then, to Luo Su’s utter disbelief, shot him a charming glance.
Luo Su: “…”
“Kid, you’re incredible. These 500 dollars are my personal gift to you!” The fat man happily gave Luo Su an additional 500. This was because Luo Su was a black horse who had made many people lose their bets, allowing him to win big.
Bret got 500 dollars, but when he was pinched by the fat man, the fat man rolled his eyes in disgust.
Fat Man: “Tsk, tsk, you’re…”
Bret: “…”
Third place got a consolation prize of 100 dollars, which was plenty fine. He had gotten back his registration fee and even a little extra once he subtracted the gas.
Just when everyone in the canyon was cheering the winners, the fat man’s cell phone rang. He answered the phone, cursed a little, and then took up his loudspeaker and howled, “Run! The cops are coming!”
As if everyone had heard the police sirens, the canyon fell into chaos. Everyone ran into their own cars and scattered like frightened birds.
Bret ran the fastest. Luo Su saw that he was leaving and hastily put on his own helmet. He still didn’t know where Prosperity was. But as he put the key into the ignition, he discovered that there was a passenger on the backseat.
“What are you looking at? Hurry and go!”
Two fair arms grabbed tight onto Luo Su’s clothes. He immediately gasped. The voice was young, but why did it sound so malicious?!
