Criminal Profiling.
It was considered a mysterious, high-end profession.
If both of them had their eye on the same person, wouldn’t that mean they were very certain about the identity of the murderer?
The crowd now had their attention on Xiang Wan.
Xiang Wan felt her ears slightly burning.
She was unlike Bai Muchuan who had a lot of experience with boasting about his achievements and furthermore, he was more thick-skinned as well.
Nevertheless, she had to cooperate with him. She calmly accepted the fact of being in the ‘limelight’ and even looked back at them politely…
“Looks like you’re not willing to turn yourself in…” said Bai Muchuan without any more delay, “since you don’t want the chance that we have given you, then I’ll have to arrest you myself!”
His cold tone was strong and determined.
The crowd seemed in awe.
After that, they all looked at him without making a sound.
The guests that came to the party were mostly well-known figures. Even the service staff at the villa were presentable and carried themselves well as they had met and served many extinguished guests. They weren’t afraid of the police authority. Yet under Bai Muchuan’s piercingly cold gaze, they couldn’t hold their head high before him…
There were some people who had an innate ability to intimidate others.
The atmosphere in the hall was now tense.
Everyone was waiting quietly. They were waiting to see how the ‘Sherlock Holmes of the East’, Lord Bai, would solve this case.
Bai Muchuan however, was very patient. He talked to the police officers near him and appeared calm and collected. There was nothing to suggest that he was anxious.
The crowd began to discuss amongst themselves cautiously.
“Everyone need not be in a hurry,” said Bai Muchuan coldly, “I also want to clear the suspicions for all of you as soon as possible so you can leave here as soon as possible… Looks like all of you seem to have drunk a lot of wine. At this moment, you should be missing your warm bed at home. So, I ask for everyone’s utmost cooperation with our work.”
Hah!
Haha!
Hahaha!
The crowd burst into laughter.
But that only lasted for a while.
Bai Muchuan didn’t laugh. “Now, I need everyone to listen carefully. Those who have been to the swimming pool tonight, please stand on my right. Those who didn’t go to the pool at all, please stand on my left.”
Huh?
Everyone looked at one another.
Some people started to get nervous.
While some people obviously heaved a sigh of relief.
Even though there were some who didn’t go to the swimming pool, they knew that the corpse was discovered there.
Those who didn’t go would surely be cleared of suspicion, right?
In no time, with the police officers’ help, the crowd was split into two.
That was fast.
In one glance, the number of people who had been to the swimming pool was obviously less than those who had not.
Bai Muchuan took a look towards his left. “Those who went to the pool after the incident happened should also stand on the right. I beseech everyone to trust the police’s ability to gather evidence that every footprint in the pool can be traced back to the owner.”
After he said that, a few more people walked over to his right.
Bai Muchuan: “Is that all? Don’t let me find out!”
No one talked.
No one moved either.
A while later, a guest started to protest. “Didn’t you say that you already have your eye on the suspect? Why don’t you just look for that person? Why make it so troublesome?”
It was smart of that guest to ask that.
He knew how to diss the police.
Bai Muchuan smiled, he was not annoyed at all. “I need to let everyone know how I found the murderer, right? If I simply pointed at someone and claimed that that person is the murderer, would everyone believe me?”
That sounded very reasonable as well.
Silence returned to the main hall once again.
The man who raised that question earlier also went over to the right side and didn’t say anything more.
Bai Muchuan took a look at the service personnel standing at the entrance of the main hall and furrowed his eyebrows. “This also applies to all of you. Those that had been to the pool earlier, go to my right.”
The service personnel also moved quietly.
When everyone stopped moving, Bai Muchuan asked Quan Shaoteng. “Everyone’s here?”
Quan Shaoteng nodded his head. “Yeah, the numbers are correct.”
Bai Muchuan asked again, “Where’s Zhang Houfa?”
Quan Shaoteng gave him a glance as he didn’t know what he was up to. Nevertheless, this was work so he cooperated without questions. He looked directly towards one of his men. “Go bring Zhang Houfa here.”
Zhang Houfa was the owner of this luxury villa and the host of the party that night.
Of course, he had been given special treatment.
He had been brought to the side of the hall and was currently being questioned.
Soon, Zhang Houfa was brought over.
Tang Yuanchu passed the statement to Bai Muchuan.
Bai Muchuan didn’t look at what was written on the statement. He directly told Zhang Houfa in a commanding tone, “You need to identify all of the people here. Who are the ones you know; what are your relations with them and when was the last time you met them? Just a simple account will do.”
Zhang Houfa was surprised by his request and appeared to be troubled and hesitant.
Firstly, there were a lot of people in the hall, it was not an easy task to identify each and every one of them.
Secondly, most of his guests were rather well-known in the showbiz and entertainment industry. If he was not careful, he could offend them.
Thirdly, it would be very tiring to do all the talking as he needed to put in effort to phrase his words carefully, in order not to offend his guests.
Bai Muchuan titled his head. “You’re not willing?”
Zhang Houfa: “Detective, I’ve said everything in my earlier statement…”
Bai Muchuan: “Then take the statement with you while you identify them.”
Zhang Houfa: “… I don’t know some of the service personnel.”
Bai Muchuan: “You can get your butler to help you out on this.”
He was in a tight spot.
And he had no choice but to comply.
Zhang Houfa adjusted his glasses and walked towards his guests slowly.
Xiang Wan observed this successful businessman; he looked around 50 to 60 years old, with some white hair near his temples. After the incident, he seemed somewhat distressed, but that did not affect his successful businessman aura. He was donned in a suit and had a pair of gold-rimmed glasses. There were wrinkles on his face; his mannerisms were gentlemanly and refined like that of a scholarly businessman.
This type of man was attractive to young women.
Of course, the taste of such men was also ‘faithful’ no matter how many decades had passed.
No matter how old they were, they favored young, beautiful women.
Zhang Houfa introduced his guests, one by one.
At the same time, he acted accordingly to what Bai Muchuan wanted him to do—gave a simple introduction of his relation with the guests and how they got to know each other, as well as the last time they met each other with an approximate date and time.
Many of them did not understand the intentions of Bai Muchuan but not Xiang Wan. He wanted this done so that the identities of the guests and service personnel would be verified against the statement. By doing so, they would also know if anyone had come using another’s invitation card.
“Everyone, please don’t be nervous. Even though this is a private event, we cannot rule out the possibility that there might be people who sneaked into this party for free food and drinks. We did this so as to help you leave this place as soon as possible…” Quan Shaoteng smiled indolently as he looked at the people in the hall. It was a casual sentence so his words attracted some giggles and laughter.
He had a face that could attract women.
He was humorous, interesting and when he was just making a mischievous remark, his eyes seemed to be especially charming as well…
Before he even finished saying his piece, he had already attracted the gazes of several beautiful women in the hall, as well as their smiles flavored with hormones.
Unfortunately, he was completely unable to comprehend the meaning behind their smiles and hence, did not appreciate it. He even tilted his head and asked them a question.
“Why are you looking at me for? Do I have the word ‘murderer’ written on my face?”
“…”
