My Apocalypse Domain - Chapter 37
Chapter 37: Defensive Buildings to Deal with the Demon Flood (I)
Ordinary people and Awakened alike panicked.
In the face of this flood of demonized beasts that stretched to the horizon, Awakened were little better off than ordinary people. They were aware of their strength and knew that it wasn’t enough to break through the demon flood.
The scene fell into disarray. Fortunately, the gates were wide and the survivors not so numerous, so everyone was able to quickly withdraw into the walls.
Some of them leaned against the cold walls, panting for breath, their eyes spiritless.
Even though they had these tall walls, no one was sure if they could hold against the attacks of the demon flood.
“There are also flying demonized beasts! The walls can’t hold them off!”
“Even if the walls can hold for now, the demon flood is endless. With the number of Awakened here, even if the demonized beasts just stand around and wait to be killed, it will never end. How can humans stand against something like this?!”
“It’s over, over! I thought that I could live a safe and quiet life in the shelter, so why? If I had known that this could happen, I would have never come…”
Despair engulfed their hearts. Suddenly, someone realized that they hadn’t seen any sign of Chief Tang or the other higher-ups of the shelter.
Had they run?
Some of them couldn’t help but doubt. While they didn’t have the ability to break out, the upper echelons, particularly Captain Roger, might have a chance?
With this thought, these people grew even more depressed, and they began to feel tendrils of hatred.
At this point, someone shouted, “They’re still outside!”
Some people looked out through the gate while others peeked out from the crenellations. They saw that the demon flood was close to the shelter, and as the demonized beasts charged, those old historical buildings, already somewhat damaged from the first demon flood, were completely crushed.
But in this situation, Chief Tang and his subordinates were unflustered. They stood on the small square as if they planned to use their puny bodies of flesh and blood to contend with this demon flood that was tens of thousands of times their size!
So awesome!
The survivors couldn’t help but feel ashamed. They had wrongly blamed Chief Tang and the upper echelons. They weren’t trying to run, but were going to be on the front line and be the first to fight against the demon flood!
But they didn’t understand why Chief Tang and company didn’t withdraw to the walls. Was it because they knew that they were no match and wanted to go out with a bang?
The survivors all looked at Tang Yu with admiration.
The bearded man who had been escorted here by an automaton and left outside the walls looked at Tang Yu as if he was already dead.
Tang Yu stared at the demon flood.
It appeared like a dense black wave.
The roaring and stomping was enough to make the vast majority of survivors fall apart.
Even the Awakened wouldn’t even be able to hold their weapons properly in the face of this demon flood, let alone fight against demonized beasts.
This was an apocalyptic disaster that turned all the shelters in its wake into ruins.
This was what had happened to the former Green Shade Shelter.
No one would not be afraid of a demon flood.
But…
He had been through a demon flood and survived, getting an achievement: Demon Flood Survivor.
This demon flood truly was imposing, and his heart was beating a little faster, but this wasn’t fear. It was excitement, joy.
What would other survivors say if they were asked what a demon flood signified?
Out of one hundred people, ninety-nine would say that it stood for destruction. The last one would be too scared to speak.
But Tang Yu didn’t think so. How could a demon flood represent destruction? It clearly represented piles of money!
Even though he was a big boss with more than ten thousand Origin Crystals, Origin Crystals were even more valuable than paper money had been before the apocalypse. No one would think they were bringing in too many Origin Crystals, particularly as he was an Overlord with a domain to run.
The sight of the charging demonized beasts almost made him drool.
“If there’s a ten percent chance of producing a crystal…”
Tang Yu began to calculate with his fingers, but he discovered that a physical education teacher didn’t have the mathematical knowledge for this calculation.
“Old Chen, head back inside. Yilian, you go back as well.”
Chen Haiping and the survivors who had joined the patrol team were still outside.
Perhaps it was because the higher-ups had not withdrawn. Even so, this was still a very rare sight.
Tang Yu could see that they were clenching their teeth and just barely managing to stand on their shaking legs. There were ordinary people among them, even though some of the Awakened had been the fastest to charge into the gate.
As expected, he could train up this first batch of patrol team members.
The gates closed, obstructing the vision of those inside.
Some of the survivors shivered as they squatted in the corners of walls, but some people mounted the walls to nervously stare at the demon flood.
Chen Haiping distributed guns to the patrol team members, who aimed them into the distance. Even though they wielded guns, the crystallization of humanity’s intelligence, and were positioned on high walls, they still weren’t confident about their chances.
Yilian’s robes flapped as she held her wand in front of her chest. Her face was just as the survivors remembered, utterly emotionless, but some people with sharper eyes realized that Yilian had never taken her eyes off Tang Yu.
Tang Yu took in a deep breath and looked around, his indifferent yet confident voice resounding through the square.
“While our shelter might not have many people and might be very small, we have the confidence and ability to protect every survivor that complies with the rules of the shelter from the demonized beasts!”
With these words said, Tang Yu looked at the familiar building menu in front of him. Using his mind to scroll the menu down, he reached the page for defensive buildings.
“Constructing arrow tower x 4 will cost 800 units of Origin Crystal, 1200 units of Wood, 800 units of Stone, and 400 units of Iron.”
“Constructing a cannon will cost 1000 units of Origin Crystal, 200 units of Wood, 200 units of Stone, and 500 units of Iron.”
Tang Yu extended both hands, his palms facing upward as if they were carrying something.
“Rise!!!”
Rumble!
The abandoned material in the square flew up, the wood, stone, and metal merging together and transforming.
From the base of the tower to the tower top, four towers rose, standing to Tang Yu’s left and right, as if they had been printed from thin air!
The black walls of each tower were thick and heavy, and a long black tube extended from the top of the tower, the chilling gleam of a sharp arrow within it.
This was an arrow tower, the most basic defensive structure an Overlord could build.
Although they were cheap and their appearance similar to ancient arrow towers, their power could not be underestimated.
Each arrow fired by an arrow tower was created from energy, solidified and reinforced with runes. In terms of destructive power and piercing power, they were far above ordinary arrows.
As the arrow towers formed, an even louder sound came from behind Tang Yu.
A pitch-black cannon with a metallic luster, a blue sphere already in its muzzle, also finished construction.
The survivors on the walls were speechless.
With the wave of a hand, arrow towers and a cannon had been created.
The speed and scale of the construction made them feel like they were in a dream!
It was like a miracle!
The small number of survivors who had seen the walls being constructed were unsurprised. Seizing the survivors next to them, they began to enthusiastically describe the splendor of the walls being constructed, spittle flying from their mouths. These arrow towers and the cannon were nothing at all.
