My Apocalypse Domain - Chapter 6
Chapter 6: Building a Shelter?

A man and an automaton had left, but they returned with several survivors in tow.
These people were carrying large cloth bags filled with food. This food had been found within the freezer and other parts of the hotel. For what had been a population of several thousand survivors, it was a small amount of food indeed. But Tang Yu knew that the majority of the food had been destroyed in the demon flood.
Tang Yu naturally took it all. He had originally believed that the survivors would covet this food. After all, they had been the first to discover the food in the freezer. But in truth, he was overthinking it.
This food had no owner, like fruits one would pick out in the wilderness. Although there was truly a ‘first come, first served’ principle, if Tang Yu hadn’t arrived, these survivors would all be dead. Even if he had taken it by force, nobody would have said anything.
This was no longer the initial stage of the apocalypse, where some people believed that laws and virtue could restrain the strong. Such naive people would never have survived until now. The only people that could restrain the strong were stronger people or their own bottom lines.
Even so, Tang Yu still gave these survivors a lot of food as payment for helping him transport it, which immediately made the survivors much more enthusiastic.
He couldn’t help but sigh. This was one of the advantages of having people to order around.
Number One was powerful, but it wasn’t that useful when it came to transporting things. After all, the food wasn’t ready-packed into boxes, but scattered around. No matter how strong Number One was, it couldn’t take much with one trip. In contrast, the several survivors working together and using a few tools could work with greater efficiency.
They chatted as they walked, and Tang Yu quickly developed an understanding of this group.
These people had basically the same status as him, people who had managed to survive the annihilation of the shelter in the demon flood. Their leader was a middle-aged man called Chen Haiping. This man was an Awakened, and from him, Tang Yu managed to learn how the shelter had been wiped out.
He only knew that the shelter had been wiped out by the demon flood, but not the actual process. As an Awakened, Chen Haiping had to know more, and in order to develop his domain, Tang Yu felt that it was best to get an understanding of the situation.
Chen Haiping didn’t have as many considerations.
In his mind, Tang Yu and his companion were experts from some other area and had saved them, so he naturally answered all the questions.
He bitterly smiled. “There was a shelter here, but two days ago, it fell to a demon flood. The survivors were almost completely wiped out. There probably aren’t many other survivors besides us.”
“A demon flood! How frightening! But this is such a large shelter. Even if you couldn’t stop the demon flood, you should have been able to retreat, right?”
Chen Haiping’s face turned even more bitter. “Retreat? Sir, do you know how long the shelter’s defense line was able to hold out against the demon flood?
“Three minutes.” He raised three fingers. “Only three minutes! Let alone retreat, some survivors were suddenly killed by demonized beasts before they even knew what was going on.”
Tang Yu was stunned.
This was not feigned. He had believed that the shelter had fallen after a gruesome battle, but now, it seemed like this hadn’t been the case at all.
“I was originally a captain in the shelter. When the demon flood arrived, I was resting in my quarters. I heard the warning siren and immediately headed to the defense line, but before I could get there, the demonized beasts were already pouring in.”
Chen Haiping began to recollect the events and continued, “The shelter wasn’t lacking in defense. Even though it was originally a small shelter, our strongest Awakened had awakened to Tier 3. Moreover, that one had been so lucky as to awaken to a special ability. Even in a large shelter, this level of strength would make one an expert, and in the small shelters around us, they were renowned.
“With the defense line’s machine guns, explosive charges, and other weapons, while we still wouldn’t have been able to hold back the demonized beasts, we wouldn’t have almost instantly fallen.” Chen Haiping paused for breath, anger appearing on his face. “The reason this happened was that the shelter chief, Wang Tai, saw that the situation was getting bad and immediately abandoned the shelter.
“Not only that, Wang Tai fled with the defenders loyal to him and a great deal of our guns and ammo. These guns and ammo were given to us by the Lindong Army to reinforce our shelter and were surplus military supplies. But that Wang fellow took more than half. As a result, when the demon flood arrived, our defense was full of holes, and instantly collapsed.
“Even that strongest Awakened died to an ambush from the demonized beasts. I was lucky and managed to escape, but besides Wang Tai’s group, there’s probably no one left from the shelter except us.”
Selfishness could be considered a part of human nature, and it had only become more obvious during the apocalypse.
Before coming to the shelter, Tang Yu had been in a group of several hundred survivors, but when the group arrived at the shelter, it had dwindled to less than one hundred survivors.
Many of them had died in the mouths of demonized beasts, but even more had been directly or indirectly killed by other humans.
He didn’t have the right to say anything. He had been a cold bystander to many of the incidents, which was one of the reasons he had survived until now.
He also didn’t have the right to criticize Wang Tai. Facing the imminent destruction of the shelter, Wang Tai couldn’t be said to have made the wrong choice. But for those people who had been abandoned, anger and hatred were inevitable.
As one of those abandoned. Tang Yu felt a little anger, but not as much as he had expected.
Perhaps it was because he had survived and activated the system, or perhaps anger was something only the weak required. What he wanted more was control over his own fate.
After saying everything, Chen Haiping felt like he had lifted a great weight off his chest. He stopped thinking about the past, as he now needed to consider how he would survive.
After dropping the food, he joined Tang Yu on several more trips, and soon, all the food in the hotel had been moved to the villa area.
But after these trips, Chen Haiping felt that something wasn’t right.
He had believed that Tang Yu and his companion were experts from a large shelter who happened to be passing by and might leave soon. But gradually, through the conversations, he discovered that the two of them had no plans to leave. This youth in clean clothes was planning to build a shelter here!
Build a shelter?
He thought the youth was joking at first, but after bringing over all the food, the youth had hired them to transport some stone and wood. Though Chen Haiping couldn’t tell what he wanted with it all, he could tell that these two experts were serious!
He had just talked about how the shelter had been wiped out by a demon flood, but…
It seemed that all of his good intentions had been wasted!
