He sat brimming with warm feelings, which was easily noticed by the people around him.
“Mu, you’re in a good mood, aren’t you?”
Mu Shaoqing glanced at the man, smilingly, without giving an answer.
“This is not the kind of contentment that you can get from signing a few multi-million deals. What is it? Is it because of the message?” The man continued to tease him, “Did something happen to you when I was not around?”
Mu Shaoqing held his glass up and took a sip of the wine. “Shaoang, what do you think about having a pet to spice up a life that’s simply too dull?” He then put the wine glass down on the table.
The man seemed perplexed by the sudden question.
“Have you lost your mind?”
Mu Shaoqing was reduced to silence for a moment.
“Why would a cold-blooded man like you be interested in having a pet? I’m actually more concerned about the safety of the pet and whether or not it’ll be able to survive under your care.”
Amused, Mu Shaoqing could not help but laugh at his best friend’s teasing comments.
“Let me put it this way,” Mu Shaoqing intruded with a note of seriousness. “What if I told you that I’m interested in a woman?”
His confession was followed by dead silence. The man opposite him sat in a state of bewilderment, but only for a brief moment. He then began rocking with laughter.
Mu Shaoqing was not pleased, obviously.
“Is it really funny?”
“Oh, please. Rumour has it that you’re immune to a woman’s charms. Your sexual orientation remains a mystery to date. Now that you’re telling me this, is it because you’re planning to make a statement to the world that you’re actually interested in women?”
Mu Shaoqing simply dismissed his remark with a smile. “Have I ever stated that I’m not interested in women?”
“Come on; everyone else from our circle thinks that way – you’re a homo!” The man said the last word in a lower register.
“Rumors are just unproven stories, aren’t they? As far as I can remember, you and I are supposed to be a couple, according to the rumors,” Mu Shaoqing attempted to provoke him, but in a playful way.
For a brief instant, his friend’s face darkened.
Mu Shaoqing slowly rose to his feet and grabbed his phone on the table. He then threw a glance at the man who was clearly stung by the mockery. “Shaoang, tomorrow night’s race is canceled. We’ll compete another time.”
“You’ve never failed to keep an appointment. Where are you going?”
“Where? Somewhere worthwhile,” Mu Shaoqing answered, smilingly.
The man was baffled.
Meanwhile, Mu Shaoqing walked out of Mu Se and entered his car. With the phone in his hand, he stared in amazement at the adorable emoji that was added at the end of her message. He could almost picture her smiling so brightly.
A few moments later, he typed a word on the reply column and sent it out.
Swiftly, he kept his phone away and put on a flinty expression, as usual.
Ning Youyou was doing the dishes when Mu Shaoqing’s reply came in. She took a brief look at the screen, only to realize that it was from him. She became all at once shocked that she almost dropped the dishes.
“Sure.” There was only one word.
He truly was a man of few words. It could even be seen from the way he replied messages. Being reserved was probably a requirement for a bodyguard.
Nevertheless, the reply came as a reassurance that he would attend the ball, which set her mind at ease.
She looked forward to attending the ball, and at the same time, began picturing her outfit for tomorrow night.
Gleefully, she hummed a cheerful tone while continuing the dishes.
Yun Xiu saw Ning Youyou from across the living room and was baffled. She then voiced out her concern to the man next to her, who was still reading the newspaper. “Look at her; what’s going on with Youyou? Why is she so happy about doing the dishes? Shall we let her do all the dishes from now on?”
