My Beloved Mr. Mu - Chapter 60
Chapter 60: Dumbstruck
At eight o’clock sharp, her alarm clock blasted at full volume. Ning Youyou got out of bed without any delay.
She packed her bags and went downstairs. On a lower floor, she bumped into Aunty Zhang, who was on her way back with takeaways.
“Youyou, you’re early for work!”
“Surely I must, Aunty Zhang! You went to get soya milk for your grandson again, didn’t you?”
“That’s right. The child was still sleeping soundly when I left the house, so I didn’t wake him. He should be up anytime soon, just in time for the warm drink. Stay safe on your way to work!”
Ning Youyou beamed with delight as she continued her walk downstairs.
She had been staying in the district for about two weeks now, mostly on weekdays, as it was more convenient for her to travel to work. During weekends, she would go back to her parents’ house to spend some time with them.
The district was calm, peaceful, and untroubled, which was why Qianya became interested in moving in with her the first time she came to visit. She enjoyed the serenity.
In the end, Yi Beichen had to come and take her away personally.
Ning Youyou sighed lightly at the thought of Yi Beichen. He found out about her new place when he came to pick up her sister, who had been running away from home. The next thing that he did was to get in touch with the real estate agent to confirm the safety of the district. He was so cautious that she had to talk him out from doing a background check of every resident in the building.
After all these years, he was still the way she remembered him to be, always careful and guarded.
As soon as she got to the office, she was immediately sent to the airport, along with her marketing manager, to receive their foreign investors.
She spoke English with great fluency, which earned her a few compliments from her direct superior for the job well done.
They returned to the office after the reception while waiting for the elevator. Suddenly, Ning Youyou thought that she caught sight of someone she knew.
He was accompanied by a group of men dressed in black suits. They entered another elevator almost in unison.
She was drawn to the familiar figure, and instinctively, she followed them. However, her subconscious attempt was halted by her colleague.
“Youyou, what are you looking at?”
Ning Youyou finally recovered from her preoccupation. Her eyes strayed to the group of men yet again. “Nothing, let’s go,” she looked away and said.
Ning Youyou was still puzzled over the figure when she reached the office.
The familiar figure reminded her of him, but it did not seem quite right, logically speaking.
Mu, as she knew it, was a bodyguard who worked for a senior executive officer. The man that she saw standing in the middle seemed to be of high rank, with escorts in front and behind him. It was definitely not a position for a bodyguard to be. It must have been a mistake.
Mu Shaoqing left the building and went straight into the car that had been waiting for him.
As soon as he got into the car, he took out his laptop, which was a custom made model featuring the latest technology, and initiated a video conference call with the executive manager from the branch office in the United States.
“Boss, we’re now in touch with Madam Rose.”
“Hmm,” Mu Shaoqing took note of it.
“However, Lei Corporation is also actively looking for opportunities to get in touch with her. We’ll suffer great losses if they beat us to it.”
“I know. Pay close attention to Madam Rose’s movements,” he gave his last instruction before ending the call.
He pulled a long face, much to the displeasure of the news.
Tang An noticed the change of his expression and thought that it would be wise to discuss the matter with him. They needed to finalize their action plan. Much to his surprise, Mu Shaoqing threw him a question first before he could say anything.
“How’s Ning Youyou doing in the marketing department?”
Tang An was dumbstruck by his boss’ sudden question about Ning Youyou. Given the current circumstances, the movements of Madam Rose should be the priority over any other matter.
