Chapter 21 You’re Also Eyeing My Gold Nugget?
Tang Feng tossed the baseball bat aside once he had fully exhausted his strength.
He felt his entire body going soft as he crumpled onto the ground. He could not exert a single ounce of strength.
In truth, Tang Feng had found it somewhat embarrassing to have such difficulty dealing with three ordinary people.
After all, he was supposedly able to repel ten enemies at once. As such, it was clear that he was not fully utilizing his abilities.
However, the number of fights he had been in since he was young could be counted on one hand, and most of them had ended up with him being beaten up.
This was the first time he had a face-to-face confrontation with someone, and it was a one against three fight at that!
As such, the fact that he won could be considered to be a major improvement by normal standards.
He believed that the only way to fully utilize his Martial Arts Mastery was to gain more combat experience.
“Weren’t you going to take my gold nugget from me? Stop playing dead and come get it from me then…”
Upon recovering some of his strength, Tang Feng walked over to the stall owner and kicked his face twice.
“I’m sorry! I’m sorry! I won’t act like this again… I was in the wrong… Please! Please spare my life…”
The stall owner was already beaten until his skin was split open, and thus, it was all he could do to beg for mercy.
“Bah, coward!”
Tang Feng cursed and let up on the harassment.
As Tang Feng was still lacking in capital. He dared not do anything too outrageous as he feared the consequences that he would have to bear.
He reached into his pocket. After confirming that the gold nugget was still with him, he finally relaxed and prepared to leave.
At this moment, Old Ma, who had been sitting on the armchair watching the battle, suddenly exclaimed, “Young man, can we have a chat?”
Tang Feng immediately turned to look at him. “Are you also trying to steal my gold nugget?”
In truth, Tang Feng had already noticed Old Ma’s presence since the start of the battle. After all, his erratic behavior in the midst of such a chaotic scene made it hard not to stand out.
Old Ma slowly stood up and walked toward him. “Little brother, don’t misunderstand. Let me introduce myself first. My name is Ma Wenbo, and I’m an avid collector of antiques.”
Upon learning that Ma Wenbo had no intention of outright taking his gold nugget, Tang Feng’s attitude softened slightly. “So, what do you want to talk to me about?” Ma Wenbo glanced at his shirt’s pocket. “I’m very interested in that gold nugget of yours. I wonder if you have any plans on selling it?”
Tang Feng took out his gold nugget and asked, “You wish to buy this from me?”
Ma Wenbo nodded. “I am indeed very interested in the gold nugget, but what I’m more interested in is, how did you know that there was a gold nugget inside the jade toad?”
The people who set up stalls in Antique Street were extremely shrewd businessmen.
As such, the fact that such a gem had gone unnoticed by them but was discovered by Tang Feng made for an interesting study.
This made him very curious.
Tang Feng tried to dismiss the old man’s statement. “I was simply lucky. I didn’t realize that there was actually a gold nugget hidden within the jade toad. Otherwise, why would I try to ask for a refund?”
Ma Wenbo stared at him for a long time. “Is that so?”
Tang Feng nodded. “Of course, do you think I have x-ray vision or something?”
Ma Wenbo smiled and shook his head, “Then it seems that your luck is really good. Well, let’s talk about the gold nugget then. Just by eyeballing it, your gold nugget seems to weigh around 200 grams. I’m willing to pay you 600 thousand for it. What do you think of my offer?”
Tang Feng hesitated for a moment after hearing his offer.
Thinking that Tang Feng had hesitated because he wanted to reject his offer, Ma Wenbo added, “Young man, 600 thousand is a really a bargain for you. If you don’t believe me, try asking around, I guarantee you that no one else will outbid me.”
Realizing that Ma Wenbo was misunderstanding something, Tang Feng hurriedly waved his hand to dispel the notion. “It’s not that I think that it’s too little. Rather, I think you’re overpaying me. In my opinion, this gold nugget is only worth 500 thousand at most, so why are you giving me an extra 100 thousand?”
Ma Wenbo smiled courteously and answered, “Indeed, an ordinary gold nugget would only be worth around 500 thousand yuan if it weighs at 200 grams. However, your nugget has a rather interesting appearance, so you can think of this additional 100 thousand as a gesture of goodwill as well as a payment for its uniqueness.”
This was Tang Feng’s first time encountering a true collector.
Most people would think of how they should cut their expenditure, but Ma Wenbo was the opposite. He was willing to pay extra just as a form of goodwill.
What a magnanimous individual!
“Great! This gold nugget is yours then.” Tang Feng immediately handed over the gold nugget.
After weighing it by hand, Ma Wenbo then asked for Tang Feng’s bank account number and transferred 600 thousand yuan to him on the spot.
“I still haven’t asked for your name, young man. May I know what it is?”
He put the gold nugget into his pocket and asked for Tang Feng’s name.
“My name is Tang Feng.” Tang Feng did not bother to hide his identity. After giving his name, he then waved Ma Wenbo goodbye. “Mr. Ma, I still have some matters to attend to, so I’ll be leaving now. Goodbye.”
Ma Wenbo originally wanted to chat with him a bit more, but seeing as Tang Feng had his own commitments to attend to, he responded with a goodbye of his own.
With that, Tang Feng left under the surprised gazes of the surrounding onlookers.
The incident that had just unfolded in Antique Street would undoubtedly send ripples throughout the community of antique collectors.
However, Tang Feng was completely unperturbed by this.
Since it was still early, Tang Feng was in no hurry to head to Qin Yanan’s antique shop.
He strolled on the street for a while and located a Xishan noodle shop.
After taking a meal there, he then leisurely walked to Qin Yanan’s antique shop.
Her antique shop was called Elegant Garden, which was named based on her own name[1].
Elegant Garden’s was situated in a rather poor spot, as it was located just a stone’s throw away from Antique Street.
This was one of the many reasons behind her antique shop’s poor performance.
Fortunately, since she owned the property she had set up shop in, she did not need to pay rent.
Otherwise, her antique shop would have collapsed long ago.
Upon arriving at Elegant Garden, Tang Feng inspected its exterior.
There was a plaque hanging above the door, and two large words were written neatly on it – Elegant Garden!
Judging from the handwriting, it should have been written by Qin Yanan herself.
While he was admiring the calligraphy of the two words, Qin Yanan had already walked out of the shop.
“How is it? Are you shocked by my calligraphy skill?” Qin Yanan looked at him proudly as if she was waiting for him to praise her.
“I am indeed shocked. I didn’t expect someone to be so thick-skinned as to hang her own calligraphy on the door.”
“Go to hell!”
[1] Referring to the character for ‘Ya’ in Qin Yanan, which means elegance.
