Chapter 9: A Tough Choice

“What should we do about them?” asked Gu Fenghua casually.
“Put gunny sacks over their heads and hit them,” replied Luo Enen.
“Do we have gunny sacks?” Gu Fenghua frowned quizzically.
“Uh huh. I bought a bunch the other day.” Luo Enen nodded solemnly.
Gu Fenghua went quiet. From the looks of it, it was not Luo Enen’s first time doing this, but she liked it. Luo Enen was still too kind. Considering Gu Fenghua’s temperament, she was not going to let it go with just a fight. Not only did she want to beat them up, but she also wanted to clean them out and leave nothing behind.
“Clean them out? Clean what?” Luo Enen looked lost.
Gu Fenghua waved her hand without explaining. Luo Enen might not know what Gu Fenghua meant by that for now, but very soon, it would be clear to her. Under Gu Fenghua’s influence, she would turn evil and go on the path of no return.
The wave of people kept following them from a distance, but Gu Fenghua was unperturbed. Instead, she slowly advanced with Luo Enen. Come lunchtime, they took out some steamed buns stuffed with meat and juice and ate before continuing on their trek. At night, they found some flat land and prepared to camp out for the night.
Luo Enen certainly proved her worth at a time like this since she had to depend on Gu Fenghua for food and drink. She swiftly set up the tent, fire, prepared skewered meat, and placed a pot on the fire to make soup.
“Wow. You came prepared with all the condiments even. My cooking is average, so you will have to make do,” said Luo Enen somewhat sheepishly.
Gu Fenghua looked at the skewered meat Luo Enen had just given her. It was so dark it was beyond recognition. She said nothing for a long time. Was this considered average? Luo Enen’s cooking could not be trusted at all. Was this even edible?
Also, Gu Fenghua tried a sip of the soup that Luo Enen had made and quickly spat it out. She opened her eyes wide at Luo Enen. “Did you add the condiments liberally because you didn’t pay for them? How much salt did you put in the soup? Half a bottle?”
Luo Enen smiled awkwardly. “Not that much. I was generous, but it was technically less than half a bottle.” Gu Fenghua looked at the salt container that was the size of her fist and felt speechless.
Gu Fenghua had no choice but to cook. Her cooking skills were genuinely average. It was safe to eat, but not delicious and her soup was only barely edible. Fortunately, she was good at making grilled meat, so they could have that for dinner at least for the night.
“You had better hone you’re cooking. Otherwise, you are on your own finishing the food you have cooked from now on,” sneered Gu Fenghua.
Luo Enen’s face sank dejectedly.
After they were done with dinner, they prepared to sleep. Now that it was late at night, those people would probably attack them soon. Ten to fifteen minutes after Gu Fenghua and Luo Enen had gone into their tent, five people furtively approached them. The fire outside the tent was still crackling when the peaceful night atmosphere abruptly ended.
Five people snuck up to the tent, but a cold voice suddenly came from behind just as they were about to open it quietly.
“Do you want to die or eat shit?” Luo Enen’s cold angry voice suddenly echoed in the air.
The five of them were startled before everything turned dark.
Gu Fenghua knew that Luo Enen was no Mr Nice Guy, but it was her first time hearing such an unusual threat. Die or eat shit? Gu Fenghua was certain anyone would find it a tough choice.
Luo Enen beat them up while Gu Fenghua ate melon seeds and watched the show. Every now and then, she cheered, “Enen, his face. Get his face!”
After Luo Enen was done, Gu Fenghua looked at the people who were beaten to a pulp before she stood up and said nonchalantly, “Swipe everything from their bags, including all their valuables.”
Huh? Luo Enen turned her head to look at Gu Fenghua with her eyes opened wide. She did not quite grasp what Gu Fenghua meant. Was it not enough for them to take their tokens?
“Clean them out. They wanted to attack us. Shouldn’t they pay the price?” Gu Fenghua looked justified. She looked at Luo Enen as though she was helpfully explaining this to an idiot.
Luo Enen’s eyes glinted. This was what she meant by cleaning them out! She suddenly felt enlightened. She happily took all their bags and piled them beside their fire before she swiped all their tokens, weapons, and other valuables. Since she was cleaning them out, she should do a good job of it. She adored doing things like this.
Gu Fenghua pulled Little White Flower off her hair, threw it onto the ground, and said nonchalantly, “Throw these people away. Hang on. Strip them before you throw them far away.”
Luo Enen looked at Gu Fenghua in shock as thick vines instantly grew from Little White Flower. The flower took human form and had arms and legs while its head was a white flower.
Little White Flower wobbled as it gathered the men on the ground amid Luo Enen’s shock. It seemed as though it was picking them up like bags of rice from the armpits before it slid into the distance and disappeared into the darkness gradually.
“I-is that your demonic beast?” Luo Enen could not decide what was more shocking. Was it Gu Fenghua’s bold words or the fact that the little white flower in her hair was a demon plant? Since she was a Warrior Saint, she could not tame a demonic beast.
It was not easy to tame a demonic beast. Only Demon Beast Masters were capable of making demon beasts submit and assist them in battle. With increasing power, the Demon Beast Master could tame an increasing number of demonic beasts of even greater strength. But was Gu Fenghua a Demon Beast Master? Why had she never known this?
“Uh huh,” acknowledged Gu Fenghua casually before she walked up to Luo Enen and squatted down to examine the bags Luo Enen had taken. Since these people did not possess an interspatial bracelet like her, most of their belongings were stored in their backpacks. Gu Fenghua rummaged around before a look of disdain appeared on her face, “Nothing good here. You keep the money. Check to see if they have anything useful. As for the rest, just dump them.”
“Fenghua, are you a Warrior Saint or a Demon Beast Master?” asked Luo Enen with her eyes wide open in shock.
“A Warrior Saint.” Gu Fenghua yawned.
“Then what is your weapon?” Luo Enen felt puzzled. Warrior Saints were born with spiritual roots and were capable of cultivating them. Warrior Saints usually possessed either weapons or were well-versed in hand-to-hand combat. Considering how frail Gu Fenghua seemed, she did not appear like she was capable of causing much damage in a fistfight.
“A sword,” replied Gu Fenghua lazily. “I’m usually too lazy to take it out. I’m going to bed. I’m exhausted.”
“Why would you possess a demon plant if you are a Warrior Saint?” Luo Enen felt puzzled. Were Demon Beast Masters not the only people who could capture one? Demon beasts and plants could be tamed to assist their masters in battle, but only Demon Beast Masters were capable of doing so.
(The five main occupations consisted of Warrior Saints, Demon Beast Masters, Apothecaries, Craftsmen, and Formation Masters. More occupations to come.)
