Not having any idea what the plot of the movie would be, everyone followed behind Granny Wong and learned more information through Han Dong acting as the interpreter.
Through their conversation, they learned that the main rituals that Granny Wong provided were fortune-telling and ‘soul recovery’, and it was the first time any of them had heard that last term before.
According to how Granny Wong explained it, it was actually like an exorcism.
The method was to find a substitute that was usually in the form of a paper human cutout, transferring all the pain and ailment from the subject’s body to the substitute in order to achieve the purpose of healing.
The process was complex and lengthy, often requiring about 3 hours or even longer.
Just as they had spent half an hour interviewing Granny Wong, her spouse, Uncle Liu, had suddenly approached them, saying that someone in ‘Wangzigang’ had been cursed, and was in urgent need of soul recovery.
Granny Wong was not particularly willing to head over, after all, Wangzigang was quite a distance away, needing at least 5 hours to travel there by car.
But upon hearing her spouse say that the ‘payment details’ included the time taken as well, she immediately prepared herself for the travel, so they should be able to get there by evening.
In Han Dong and the other’s eyes, this ‘Wangzigang’ must be the incident site for their event.
Using the time the husband and wife needed to prepare for the trip, the team used the 500 yuan that the system had given them to purchase a series of essential supplies like handheld flashlights, ship biscuits, bottled water, and other things, in case of an emergency. The bald Darren had even bought himself a chopper for self-protection.
Realistically, there was no need to equip themselves with the standard sharp weapons. It was not like evil spirit events could be resolved with such knives, so carrying such a thing would instead affect his mobility.
When everything was done, Uncle Liu considered the issue of the film crew following them, so he had gotten a more spacious van for the trip, with seats at the back just nice for six people. All that was left was to make the drive down to the location.
Everyone could have taken a nap in that 5 hour journey, but because they were all worried, and the anxiety that they felt stemmed from the fear they feel inside toward death. Most of them had difficulties sleeping in that van, staring blankly out the window as they took in the scenery of the fields beyond.
But Han Dong was different. Because the experiments he did in the past needed him to flip day and night cycles for work and sleep, he was able to automatically adjust his own biological clock to a certain degree and had even learned a method to quickly fall asleep from the internet. By learning the sleeping techniques of World War 2 pilots, he was able to relax his entire body and very quickly fall asleep by the window.
By catching up with some sleep and re-energizing himself in these 5 hours before their arrival, Han Dong would then be able to concentrate, analyze and process whatever weird thing that happened at night and deal with it accordingly.
This was the first time that Han Dong had slept in seven years since he was reborn as a cell. When he fell into a deep sleep, Han Dong found himself having a strange dream.
In his dream, Han Dong was back in his University of Florence, and he was holding on to his teacher’s handbook walking into the lecture hall.
But what was different from the past was that none of his students actually skipped the boring cell biology course, and it was a full class.
What was even stranger was that the students were all wearing their hats and coats, with their hats all lowered to cover their heads, making it impossible to make out their faces.
Han Dong headed to the podium, habitually took out a USB drive and plugged it into the interface of the multimedia device, but it was at that moment when a strange scene happened.
The port of that USB drive turned into a tentacle and inserted itself into the multimedia device.
The cell culture that should have been displayed on the projector screen changed into a strange logo that Han Dong did not recognize.
At the same time, all the students that filled the lecture theater lifted their heads in unison, taking off their hats to reveal faces that lacked any facial feature on them.
“Faceless…”
His ears hummed once more, and Han Dong was abruptly jolted awake.
It was now night, and the van that Han Dong had been sleeping in seemed to have arrived at the site of the incident ‘Wangzigang’, parked in front of an abandoned farmhouse. There was also an old and long abandoned strip bungalow. The two-storey bungalow had once been used as a hotel, with the second level of the place being split into 8 separate rooms, with the connecting stairs right in the middle. A row of red lanterns was hung neatly in the open corridor on the second floor, appearing slightly strange contrasting against the dark night.
This was the bungalow that the client and the cursed person were currently residing. Just as everyone exited the car and were all staring at the dilapidated building, the abruptly awakened Han Dong was feeling uneasy, both his hands at his waist as he paled… It was like he was intentionally hiding something.
Now that they had arrived at the site of the incident, the countdown timer began as the relevant requirements listed.

While they were all exiting the van, an approximately 30 year old, honest looking man came forward to receive Granny Wong, at the same time asking, “Grandmaster, who are these people?”
“Students from abroad who are here to film a documentary. They will be recording the entire process of the ‘soul recovery’… You won’t mind, would you?”
“As long as it does not affect grandmaster’s methods, I would not mind. It’s just that… We have not prepared enough dinner for all of you.”
That was when Han Dong quickly stepped forward and courteously answered, “It’s no problem, we’ve brought food of our own for this trip. It’s fine if Granny Wong and Uncle Liu are the only two to join you for the meal. There’s no need to worry about us.”
After a short back and forth between the two parties, everyone entered the hall of the bungalow and met the cursed subject for this incident. The person was different from what Han Dong had imagined of someone cursed, someone who would be tied to a bed and locked in a room, screaming and wailing, engaging in self-harm or eating insects.
The cursed individual looked to be a demure long-haired female villager, looking rather normal and plain on the outside and was even in charge of preparing and cooking the food.
After dinner was over, they immediately dived into the topic at hand.
The man living here began introducing the situation about the ‘curse’ and they learned that he was siblings with the woman. The man’s name was Daqing, and the cursed woman was Chenli, his elder sister.
They had been working in this farmhouse hotel before, and business was considerably good… But the relocation of the tourist area a few years back resulted in the place becoming abandoned.
Meanwhile, the situation with his sister Chenli was rather unique. She would appear to be completely normal during the day, but would always be sick during the night.
According to Daqing, they had been to the city to consult a doctor… But the diagnosis was that Chenli suffered from schizophrenia, though she insisted that it was not the case, but that she was ‘hosting’ something else inside her body.
That was the general situation, and Daqing hoped that Granny Wong would be able to use her ‘soul recovery’ method and expel the thing that was inside his elder sister’s body to a paper man.
“We can’t do it now. The Yin energy is too heavy at night, so there’s no way to lure that thing that is residing in your sister’s body… Furthermore, I’m a bit tired after rushing over here. Soul recovery is a ritual that taxes my spirit, so we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to begin.”
Now that Granny Wong had said this, it meant everyone would be staying here for a night.
Daqing showed a warm expression, “That’s okay… I’ll bring all of you to the second floor rooms to rest. However, conditions here aren’t great, so I hope everyone can put up with it.”
The six person film crew, Granny Wong and her husband, and the cursed woman Chenli just happened to be staying on the second level of the bungalow that had big red lanterns hung all over.
