Over in ‘baldy’ Darren’s room, he was the one in the team with the most irascible personality and the one who tended to violence the most.
From the very beginning, he did not trust anyone, neither did he have any intention of listening to Edward’s orders.
As a laborer, the jealousy that he harbored toward the middle and upper class citizens had warped into hatred… Upon learning of Edward’s background, he had already decided that he utterly hated that well-to-do kid.
Edward had a kind face, but in Darren’s eyes, the man was no more than a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
Darren drank the bottle of white wine that he had bought for courage, brought his handheld flashlight and chopper, and sneaked out of the room.
Daqing had already cut off electricity to the entire bungalow at 2300, so only the red lanterns were left to light the corridor… The flashlight came in very handy at such times.
Darren muttered to himself in a low voice, “According to statistics, the survival rate for newbies isn’t anything more than 1%, not to mention this is a four-star difficulty evil spirit event. The survival rate for us should probably be less than 0.1%. Even if I, Darren, have to die, I would choose to do so by my own volition… Now that we’ve been informed of the cursed target in question, why would I not kill her in advance? Who knows, maybe this would buy us some time and increase our survival rate.”
Darren’s thinking was very simple, and that was to kill the ‘Accursed Chenli’ during the first night before the event had worsened… This was also the reason why he had taken the initiative to stay right next to Chenli’s room.
Because Chenli’s room had been locked with a metal chain, the others might very well hear him if he were to attempt to break it outright, so as a result, he chose to secretly sneak his way in. Darren went down the stairs and circled round to the back of the bungalow
Working from 9 in the morning till 9 at night for seven days a week, Darren’s work as a menial laborer in a factory had trained out a body of muscle, so he could climb up the old and dilapidated building with great ease. And when he climbed up the wall and was right outside Chenli’s bedroom window, his whole body froze up!
The room was not pitch black, but there was a single red candle lit by her bedside.
Even stranger was that the room door that should have been chained and locked up was actually wide open.
“I had even specifically checked the room before I left that Chenli’s door was properly chained tight. It was impossible to open that at all… So how is her door ajar right now?”
All the various weird phenomena had caused the fear from deep in Darren’s heart to surge forth, and not even the alcohol that he had imbibed before could get rid of it.
But since he had already gotten to this step, Darren was not about to back out.
The window was not locked, so Darren very silently entered room 6.
“How very cold…”
The temperature inside the room was quite possibly 10 degrees lower than the ambient temperature outside… And the chill that he was feeling seemed to be able to seep into his very bones.
Just as Darren lifted his chopper in order to drum up courage in himself.
*Tap tap tap!*
A flurry of footsteps broke the silence of the night.
At the same time, a woman carrying an infant child came walking past the doorway.
This scene scared Darren to the point that he felt his whole body shiver… But Darren tried to overcome the fear he felt from deep within him and steadied himself.
In the next moment, he went charging forward by tapping into his liquid courage, attempting to dart out to Chenli and drag her back into the room to kill her.
But who would have thought that in those two seconds from when Darren saw her walk past, to him dashing out of the doorway, all that greeted him was an empty hallway and the many big red lanterns that hung above his head. There was no woman carrying an infant child anywhere to be found.
“Where is she?”
A strange, unknown and inexplicable phenomenon caused Darren to become nervous, the fear in his heart welling up in him. His palms were sweating, and his forehead was also similarly drenched in his sweat.
A gust of cold air blew on the back of Darren’s ear.
A certain black haired woman was standing behind him, not moving at all, exhaling a constant stream of cold air from her mouth.
Ten icy fingers crawled up like centipedes, moving along Darren’s neck to his cheek.
Her nails were caked in mud and dirt, as the fingers clasped Darren’s face tightly, making it impossible for him to move. With a burst of force that no human could resist, Darren, the strongest out of the team of six, was swiftly dragged into the bedroom.
The door slammed shut as the metal chain jangled noisily, winding by itself to lock the door once more.

The next morning, the younger brother Daqing turned the electricity back on at 0700 sharp, quickly making his way up to the second floor to use the key to unlock the door to his sister’s bedroom.
Chenli had changed her clothes and appeared as if everything was normal. She followed her brother down the stairs and began preparing breakfast for everyone.
To the members of the team, the first night had not been peaceful at all.
All of them had experienced something, and that was the footsteps as well as the sound of an infant crying that woke them all up… Each of them had seen a woman hugging a baby in her arms walking up and down the corridor through the glass window on their doors.
Edward and the newsboy saw very clearly that this woman that went past was indeed the ‘Accursed Chenli’.
Such an experience had scared all of them quite thoroughly, and none of them managed to get any sleep for the rest of the night…
“It’s just a simple scare, so there’s nothing we need to worry about.”
Edward was reassuring everyone when he looked at the members gathered around in the room, “Where’s Darren? Is he still asleep?”
“When I went by and took a peek… It did not look like he was in the room,” the acolyte Ackermann whispered softly, both her hands clutching onto the crucifix.
“Let’s hurry up and go look!”
Edward sensed something was wrong and ran over to Darren’s door, but he saw that there was no one inside.
Han Dong was standing at the back of everyone else as they all engaged in a bout of discussion when he suggested, “Should we go ask Daqing? If Darren had left the bungalow early, Daqing should of course be aware since he lived on the first floor.”
Edward nodded and immediately took the stairs down. He sighed, “I seriously hope nothing has happened to Darren.”
Monica was following right behind him and had muttered quietly, “It’s best if that baldy Darren’s dead, otherwise it is only a matter of time before we are all harmed by his actions.”
Even though she had said this in a very low voice, Han Dong had still managed to hear it all the way at the back.
Actually, Han Dong also shared a similar thought as well.
Darren’s reckless behavior might very well cause trouble for the team… In view of everyone’s interest, his death would definitely increase the chance of survival for their team.
Down on the first floor, the younger brother Daqing was busy starting a fire, preparing to cook noodles for everyone to eat. His elder sister Chenli was quietly chopping up vegetables in a corner of the kitchen.
“Brother Daqing, have you seen the bald student that came along with us? He’s slightly well-built and about 1.8 meters tall (6 feet).”
Daqing placed the firewood in his hand into the stove, and he turned around all puzzled, looking at this group of students from abroad.
“A bald student? Aren’t all of you here? If I’m not mistaken, there’s only five of you, right?”
“Five?” Han Dong was baffled by this answer.
“That’s right… Aren’t all five of you here to film a documentary about the ‘soul return ritual?” Am I right, Sis?!”
Chenli, who was still quietly chopping vegetables in her corner, smiled slightly.
The team of five was in quite the shock after they heard Daqing’s words.
The timid acolyte Ackermann had even been startled to the point that she took two steps back, slightly shivering in her fright.
It was apparent that the memory of Darren’s existence had been completely wiped from the memories of all the key characters in this event. Or to put in another way, Darren had been killed last night… But none of them had any idea as to the reason for this.
At the same time, all of them heard the system prompt sound.

Only 60 hours remain in this event. Number of participants still alive: [5]

Out of all the five, the only two who were still relatively calm were Han Dong and Andrew.
Of course, Han Dong was still rather surprised deep down. After all, a living and breathing human being had actually disappeared without a trace, and even the memory of this person had been completely wiped from the key character’s memories.
Without even knowing what happened, a sense of terror had already taken root in the hearts of every member of the team, and it was beginning to grow and spread.
