The second night.
Granny Wong and Uncle Liu were already fast asleep after being drugged with the laxative. They would end up heading to the latrine in the middle of the night because they were not feeling well.
According to what was requested of him, Han Dong only needed to keep an eye on his teammates; ensure that they stay in their respective bedrooms for the rest of the night.
Actually, there was no need for Han Dong to even give his teammates a heads up. There was no way any of them would run off to the latrine in the middle of the night, especially after baldy Darren’s ‘disappearance’ last night.
If they had any biological needs, all of them would definitely find a way to relieve themselves inside their rooms.
All Han Dong needed to do was have a good night’s sleep and maintain his energy and survive to the next morning.
However… It was not going to be a peaceful night.
The patter of footsteps from the corridor could be heard once more, jolting Han Dong awake once again while he was under his covers.
Using the glow the red lanterns were giving off outside, he could make out a woman in red with her completely disheveled black hair through the circular window on his door, standing by the doorway.
The newspaper that he had stuck to the door to cover it had been automatically removed.
Unlike last night, this woman did not patrol back and forth in the corridor but was standing right outside his door, staring at Han Dong inside.
Han Dong could make out the red lips that belonged to a human right under her disheveled hair.
This was not Chenli.
After learning of the situation with the plan of revenge beforehand, he knew that Chenli must now be hidden in the latrine outside, so there was no way that she would appear outside on the second floor of the bungalow… Standing outside of that door right now must naturally be the evil spirit of this event.
A sharp screech could be heard that interrupted the silence of the night.
The woman in red was scratching the door with her sharp nails.
Anyone else would of course be crying out in fear if they were in Han Dong’s shoes. Even he, who had experienced death once, could not be completely unfrightened by this, Sweat droplets the size of beans were beading down his forehead… His back was already drenched in cold sweats.
However, there was no change in Han Dong’s facial expression. He continued to lay in his bed, staring at the woman outside his door… The moment she breaks through the door, Han Dong would attempt to retaliate by activating the tentacle ability his ‘Faceless One’s head’ gave him.
Seconds ticked by.
Both parties were looking at each other… Han Dong slowly ignored the sound of her nails scratching the door until the woman left.
All at once, the heavy pressure and sense of danger that weighed down on him dissipated there and then. His intuition told him that the evil spirit would not be looking for him again tonight.
Having slept for five hours, and in addition to having been stimulated by the fear that he was feeling moments ago, Han Dong no longer had any intentions of sleeping.
Staring at the ceiling, his brain began to think as it habitually did.
“Considering how strong baldy Darren was, all of that barely affected anything when faced against the evil spirit, erasing him from existence outright… Logically speaking, the evil spirit should be more than capable to kill all of us at night, so why did she not do that? Does she simply want to scare and toy with us? Waiting till the last moment before she makes the move and kills us? Or could it be that she has to contend with limitations of her own as well…”
Limitations.
When Han Dong thought of this word, he immediately got up and pulled out the pen and notebook that he had bought as he started to write down his thoughts.
“For the moment, I have no way of understanding the purpose for this Space of Destiny to exist. But it is probably being used to conduct a sort of selection among the citizens, giving the chance for those exceptional participants to strengthen themselves, even giving them supernatural powers in the process. There’s no way that this Space of Destiny is sending us to our deaths with a ‘dead end’ as the goal, but it would provide us with the opportunity to escape with our lives… This in turn corresponds with the reason why this evil spirit did not simply just kill all of us from the start. Since limitations were in place such as ‘only being allowed to operate within the confines of the villa and 500m around the place’, as well as ‘not allowed to stay in the same room at night’, could the ‘evil spirit’ be limited in a similar manner as well? For example, is it unable to forcefully enter our rooms? Or could she only strike at people who demonstrate a certain level of fear? Or perhaps that she could only kill a single person within the given time limit? Hmm… The possibility of such limitations existing is huge.”
In his previous life, Han Dong had a habit of lying in bed to ponder over problems… The lonely nights and the comfortable bed would often allow him to come up with experimental methods and breakthroughs with problems that he could never come up with while sitting in the laboratory.
“If I can safely live through this night, that would be around half of the time limit for this event completed… I’ll have to do my best to identify and verify these limitations that the evil spirit has to adhere to in the remaining 36 hours. My survival rating would increase tremendously once that is in the bag.”
Han Dong continued to lay in his bed in this fashion until daybreak.

However, what Han Dong experienced that night had also happened to the other members of their team. Aside from Edward being more composed, the other members were not as calm when they were staring down at the evil spirit with just a glass window partitioning them.
Out of the two ladies, one was so frightened by the ordeal that she ended up in a corner of the room, screaming. Meanwhile, the other was squatting by herself in a corner and shuddered quietly… As for the newsboy Herbert, he reacted differently.
As he had been suppressing his fear the whole time he was here, he had reached his breaking point by this time and he did something that was not in the least bit rational.
“This won’t do! A simple wooden door would surely be unable to hold the evil spirit at bay… I need to escape.”
Unable to stop his legs from shaking, Herbert carried his backpack, opened the window, and jumped down from the second floor… Being in fairly decent physical form, he was able to land lightly on the ground as he pulled out his flashlight to observe his surroundings outside the bungalow.
It was also at this time when the woman by the door stopped her scratching on the wooden door, as the sides of her lips curled up into a smile.

“Gotta go find the leader! He’ll know what to do.”
The newsboy did not dare to run around in the wilderness in the middle of the night… The only lifeline he could think of was Edward.
Sticking to the wall of the bungalow, Herbert carefully circled round to the front yard, and through the light his flashlight provided, he confirmed that that the woman in front of his room was gone, and that the whole corridor was devoid of anyone.
At the same time, he could vaguely hear the sound of flesh being torn in the latrine several meters away from the bungalow.
In such a moment of crisis, a human’s brain would always easily connect the information to a random fact, and Herbert’s brain had already assumed that someone must be being killed in the latrine, so he wanted to use this chance to run up the bungalow and rendezvous with their team leader.
But who would have guessed that the moment he ran up the stairs and turned the corner, he abruptly froze in place as he forced himself to stop.
In the corner stood a woman facing the wall.
This one scene shook Herbert to the point his legs quaked as his thoughts scrambled.
“Sav-”
Before he could even enunciate the first syllable of the s-word, ten nails that were caked in dirt and mud had covered Herbert’s face, dragging him with an irresistible strength over to a certain room in the second floor.

The next day, while Chenli and Daqing were preparing breakfast, everyone had gathered in the living room.
The younger brother Daqing was smiling when he brought out the fried egg noodles, “Did the four of you have a good night’s rest? Granny Wong and her spouse had finished repairing their van this morning and already left an hour ago… If you guys have anything else you would need to film, the two of us would do our best to comply.”
The members of the team all shuddered when they heard Daqing say ‘four of you’.
More than half of the time they needed to spend here had passed, and the originally 6-person team had been reduced to four… Furthermore, the next half they had to get through might very well be even more dangerous for them all.
