Chapter 24: Chapter 24 – The final two hours

In the original plan, Edward should have perished by the hands of the evil spirit in the forest… Which then would result in the final battle to take place in the bungalow.
The trap in the room and everything was all set up for the evil spirit in mind.
But Edward had not died and had instead taken the initiative to come over.
Facing a special human who had the ability to survive a confrontation with an evil spirit, Han Dong needed to deal with him seriously, and that meant making changes to the plan at the last minute.
The trap that was for the evil spirit ended up being used on Edward!
At the same time, using Edward as bait, they had also lured the evil spirit over, creating a blazing fire in order to buy themselves more time… Han Dong had not thought that just the fire alone would be able to burn the evil spirit to death.
Because of the torrential rain that was still pouring, the inferno that would have been large enough to light up the forest all around them had not been able to spread, and it had been extinguished after just half an hour of burning.
Beneath the rubble of the now ruined bungalow, some burnt fluid was slowly gathering.
*CRACK CRACK CRACK*
The sound of joints cracking one after another could soon be heard.
Through the gaps between the rubble, a set of charred lips could be seen moving as it softly wailed.
“How painful…”
“How painful…”
“How painful…”
The awful moans made were slowly changing to that of excitement.

Time limit remaining: [2 and a half hours]

When Han Dong arrived at the house, he made a decision.
Chenli had persuaded him to send brother Daqing away first since he had nothing to do with the scenario any longer.
After all, Daqing was Chenli’s last fixation to this world. As long as Daqing could leave in peace and return back to his family and lead a normal life, Chenli would have no worries.
As such, the number of helpers on Han Dong’s side was down to just one person.
“The chance of death is the highest in the final hour… The evil spirit will be completely free from any limitations. That fire we caused should have bought us quite a bit of time, but we need to take specific countermeasures to this end. Miss Chenli, might I trouble you to stand guard above and let me be alone here for a while?”
“Understood.”
Han Dong pulled out a chair and sat by himself in the pitch black Plague Cellar.
Whenever he came across an academic bottleneck in his previous life, Han Dong Would push aside everything else, isolate himself from all the possible interference from the outside world and carry out this sort of ‘solitary’ contemplation.
“What else do I have…”
Just like when he was coming up with an innovation toward scientific research, Han Dong needed to study all the contemporary papers on that particular research once… At this moment, he was listing out all the advantages and trump cards he had at hand.
Advantages:
The evil spirit thinks Han Dong is already dead.
If the evil spirit is unable to pass through walls, then this Plague Cellar only has a single entrance and exit.
He already knew that the evil spirit has a weakness toward fire to a certain degree.
Trump cards:
Fate weapon – Plague Doctor’s shortsword.
Assistant – Accursed Chenli
….
Upon thinking of the third card he had in hand, a series of strange images flashed in Han Dong’s mind.
The strange tentacles that were between the gaps in his cell walls, the mycelium that sprouted from his neck, and could move, the strange dreams and the dangerous tentacle that grew from his palm.
“I’ve plenty of cards to play, and I have many advantages… A four star novice scenario doesn’t seem to be that hard. Generally speaking, I could actually be considered as a ‘cheater’. Had it not been for the various special abilities that my head possesses, just relying on schemes would have been very difficult for me to trump Edward. Not to mention surviving the evil spirit’s clutches. If I can survive this, I can slowly understand this world. I must pull through!”
*Bang bang bang*
A series of knocks could be heard through the cellar door.
Soon after, he heard Chenli’s low voice transmitting to his mind, “It seems like there’s movement outside… What should I do?”
“So soon?!?! This is 4 star difficulty, alright…”
Han Dong was shocked. He had originally thought that having Edward’s death as well as his fire plan would be able to let him last till the final hour of the time limit… But how was he to know that with only just two hours left, the evil spirit had already hunted him down to this place.
Han Dong made a fairly risky decision, “I’ve got a solution! Miss Chenli, may I trouble you to dress as ‘Monica’ from my team and wait in a dark corner of the cellar. There’s no need to be completely alike, just enough so that the evil spirit would not be able to make out your looks. Right now, the evil spirit believes that the final survivor is Monica.”
Chenli asked, “And what about you?”
“I’m going to die again.”

The relevant limitations have been lifted. Please hunt down and kill the last survivor in the remaining two hours.

When the evil spirit in her crawling posture got this information, she found footprints and tracked her target down to the nearby house… She was already burnt to the point that she was no longer recognizable as a human, yet her movement did not seem to be in the least bit hindered.
Her fingers scraped the concrete wall as the sound she made traveled throughout that run down house.
The evil spirit crawled on the ceiling and rapidly entered the interior of the abode.
She first discovered the body of Han Dong with his neck sliced open and his hand still clutching a dagger… She was not at all suspicious of his death.
In the process of her search, she discovered the traces of the wooden bed being moved in the bedroom. Naturally, the signs of moving the bed were something Han Dong had intentionally left behind.
Ackmann reached out to shift the wooden bedframe away and discovered the secret passageway that led to the underground cellar.
Strange laughter came out of her mouth… It was as if she could not wait to end this scenario.
She reached her blackened and burnt arms out and slowly climbed down the mossy stairs.
Evil spirits had night vision, so she very quickly spotted the slightly shivering body of the last survivor curled up in the corner of the underground cellar.
Because her vocal cords had also suffered severe burns, Ackman’s voice had become very coarse, “I did not expect you to be the final one alive… I had even thought that the gold haired brat would use you to buy himself some time. Haha, but it does not matter who’s the last one anyway. The outcome will still be the same, hahahaha…”
Her strange laughter echoed in that cellar. The evil spirit had determined that there were no other exits in the place, and ‘Monica’ huddled up in the corner simply had no way of escape.
As she had the time, Ackmann very slowly crawled over to her prey.
She had been heavily burnt. Ackmann had lost all her hair, and her long slender tongue was licking back and forth, like the lickers from Resident Evil.
Of course, she still had plenty of ‘evil spirit’ characteristics, and it was not comparable to other mutant lifeforms.
Ackman used her ten fingers to kill her victims. As long as she was able to place all ten fingers on their face, the target would completely lose their ability to move.
She reached her ten slender fingers that were twisting out ever so slowly. But just as she was about to place it on Monica’s face, a strange air dispersed around.
*Clank*
A burst of Yin energy emanated as a kitchen knife appeared out of thin air in the hands of ‘Monica’. A flick of her wrist and the knife lashed out with speed and precision.
Both the evil spirit’s arms were cut off with great accuracy… flying off over five meters away.
“ARGHHHH!!!!”
A shrill scream rang through the air. The Monica that was hiding in the corner was no longer shivering but instead revealed a ferocious expression.
“You… You’re the key character?! DIE!!!”
Wisps of Yin energy came seeping out from the severed arm stubs of the evil spirit, forming two foul arms in a semi gaseous and semi solid state in a matter of seconds… This time they struck with a speed faster than that of Chenli’s knife, grabbing a hold of Chenli’s neck as Ackmann rose her up into the air.
Because all ten fingers were making contact with her skin, the wispy Yin energy was constantly invading Chenli’s body, weakening her to the point that she was unable to wield her kitchen knife at all… Slowly sapping her of her ability to move.
The real evil spirit was clearly much stronger than a fledgling heretic like Chenli.
However… The plan was never for Chenli to kill the evil spirit.
Everything was only done to draw the evil spirit Ackmann’s attention.
Because the kitchen knife had severed her arms, Ackmann had concentrated all her attention right toward the person who gave her the pain, Chenli.
She was completely unaware that a weak and frail youth was slowly making his way down the cellar entrance.
