he discovery of the Space of Destiny was recorded on the first page of the book, along with the related events that happened during the first expedition. Furthermore, a description of the world was also included within those pages.
Han Dong learned that the world that he had been reborn into was also like Earth… The distribution of the five major continents and the countries in the world were also identical.
And the discovery of higher beings 200 years ago coincided with the outbreak of war, and humanity had already invented firearms during that time period… But the firearms were completely ineffective against this sort of higher beings that could turn people insane with a single look.
Below was a passage in its original text;
“When the reconnaissance team had confirmed that the higher beings existed and were beginning to massacre humankind, a space portal to somewhere unknown had appeared in the capitals of the various countries. As we lacked the technological capability to analyze this sort of portal or even attempt to understand the meaning of their existence, all I can do is give a general description of it with my words. It had a golden hue on its edges, like an elliptical structure that beheld a starry night sky beyond, like a stargate that was intermingled with many dimensions within.”
The description of the Space of Destiny in the text was not exactly the same as what Han Dong had experienced.
Han Dong had been standing in the Parade Square back then, and did not see any sort of portal, and had soon found himself sinking into the ground with thousands of others.
Han Dong continued to read.
“The portal to this Space of Destiny would automatically close when it came in contact with the ‘almighty lifeform’. It only allowed humans to enter, and it was a huge door that God had given specifically for humans to open. In the beginning, when the whole world was at war, there were plenty of volunteers who were willing to brave the Space of Destiny, but practically no one returned. The first returnee appeared in China. A sergeant in their ground team had returned from the limitless space and had gotten himself a physical enhancement; his physique had doubled and a significant increase toward the hardness of his punches. There was basically no other human who could be a match for the man. That was the first time that they had learned about the Fate points as well as the relevant specialization classes from his account. Soon after, returnees from countries all around the world began to appear one after another, each bringing different abilities back to reality, becoming the main fighting forces in the resistance against the higher beings, though they were still difficult to take on.”
Han Dong could feel his own heart shudder when he saw the word ‘China’. Since China was where the first returnee appeared, it was very much likely that aside from the Holy City that was situated somewhere in Europe, Asia might very well have built similar citadels as well.
Han Dong continued to read, and the next page detailed the current state of the world.
According to the incomplete data, when humanity discovered that copper of a high purity caused repulsion in these higher beings, humans began building copper city-states that could accommodate sizable human populations behind its walls in an effort to repel the invasions from these higher beings.
Only about 1% of the human population survived.
This was also during a time when the global population was at their lowest, with less than 100 million survivors.
Had the discovery of copper’s special properties when used against the higher beings been any later, humanity might very well have become extinct.
Currently, there were three city-state nations that were known to still stand.
The Holy City of Newtonia, (translated as Eternia), situated in Italy.
Dragon City, Dijing, located in China.
The King’s Capitol, Magellan, (translated as Machanica), situated in America.
The three cities each have a common feature, and that was that they were all built upon mines with huge copper deposits, with the Space of Destiny as the heart of the city at the same time.
————————-
“This is the state of the world right now? In that sense, the world that I previously lived in is really much more peaceful in comparison. Indeed, humanity might not be perfect. We were no more than the first species that managed to evolve into a sentient lifeform capable of thinking and reasoning… Plenty of biologists had once predicted that it was only just a matter of time for an even higher lifeform to appear on earth that was even more capable of adapting. This parallel world that I’m in seems to have found themselves facing such a situation early. With the end of days upon humanity, the enhancement that we could gain through participating in the Space of Destiny became our only hope… Except we are still unclear as to the true origin of this Space of Destiny. This book is highly subjective, and the definition of the Space of Destiny has been built upon the author’s subjective interpretation, lacking in any concrete argument or discussion and devoid of a reference value.”
The book had also mentioned the five main specialization classes available for returnees to choose from, and that was hardly new information to Han Dong.
Han Dong had gotten a general understanding as to the framework of the world that he was in, but he still needed to better understand this ‘higher lifeform’, at the same time needing to know how the Holy City was being managed, it’s class differentiation as well as its economic status.
“I should be able to learn this detailed information once I join the National Royal Knights’ Academy. As for my wish to head outside the city to take a look, I’m afraid I’ll have to wait till I’ve allocated five or more Fate points to become a real Knight before I would be able to join a Knights Regiment and sally forth out of the city, officially coming into contact with this higher lifeform.”
Han Dong closed the book and discovered that Nina was still staring at him with her big blue eyes.
“Are you done?”
“Yes… Return it back to your master. Thank you for your help.”
“Heh, what are you thanking me for?! I should be the one thanking big brother; when you join the Academy in a few days’ time, mom and I would be able to move over there…”
Nina had moved forward and gave Han Dong a peck on his cheek as she said this.
Nina suddenly remembered that this brother in front of him was not really her brother, and she momentarily felt a little awkward as she blushed deep red.
“I’m… I’m sorry!”
“It’s fine… There’s something I need to ask you; Nina, are you an apprentice Mechanic?”
“Yup. Even though I’m just a junior apprentice, I would always have a free lunch to eat on weekdays, though I can’t bring any back… Once I reach of age, I would be able to officially apply for it.”
Hearing this, Han Dong could not help but associate what she said with Ackmann’s account.
Han Dong very gravely stated, “If there’s anything you need help with, remember to talk to me about it.
“Hehe, master is really nice to me, so there’s no need for you to worry big brother… Wait till I get better with my craft and then I would be able to make some steam parts and greatly improve your survival rate when you head into the Space of Destiny.”
“Okay.”
Suddenly, Nina intentionally shifted herself closer to Han Dong, “Big brother, what did you do before?”
“I was a teacher. Biology.”
“Biology? Wow, that sounds very elite.”
“The scientific research in your world here has stagnated at the first industrial revolution age, and there’s plenty of reason as to why humanity has been unable to develop normally… So not knowing about it is pretty normal. You should have heard about chemistry, right?”
“Chemistry? Big brother, do you mean Alchemy?”
“Alchemy?”
Han Dong knew very well that Alchemy was considered chemistry during ancient times to a certain extent. It would often be mixed with some pretty unrealistic ideas, such as the ‘Philosopher’s Stone’.
However, in a world where magic and the supernatural existed, Alchemy might very well be an extremely important branch of science.
“The status of an alchemist is a rank higher than us mechanics; they are considered to be part of Holy City’s think tank.”
Han Dong wrote down the word ‘Alchemy’ in his notebook.
Han Dong had no intention of ditching his original profession. Not only did he want to delve deeper into the Space of Destiny, but he would also like to gain access to the scientific circle in this world and engage in it as a side business.
After all, Han Dong lacked any direct income source.
“If big brother’s really interested, you can ask around in the Academy… If big brother were to become an alchemist, I’ll be able to eat fried chicken every day, heheheh.”
“Alright. That is indeed worth considering.”
