“HELP!!! Save us!!! There’s a demon! That guy is storing a fearsome demon inside of him!!”
The entire underground detention room was in a state of uproar when they saw the security officers come down.
“What demon? Isn’t he the deserter?”
The portly Charles was such an idiot that he had not actually realized the problem with his question at such a crucial juncture.
In his eyes, Han Dong was the troublemaker in the cell… He was only thinking about punishing Han Dong in an effort of making an impression in front of the noble cavalier, thinking he could maybe even find himself transferred to a better branch.
As for his lanky partner Braun, the man could already tell what happened.
“Could… Could he actually be!?!”
He had already experienced that slight moment of dread when he was escorting Han Dong before. Even though it was just a brief flash, he could still very clearly remember the sense of danger he felt coming from Han Dong.
Just as Charles was patting his security baton and making his way to Han Dong.
*SMACK*
Charles got boxed right in the ear and was sent flying away.
Security Chief Dace was precisely the person who had acted, quickly stepping forward and taking the initiative to uncuff Han Dong before giving a full 90 degree bow in apology.
“Nicholas Valen, my two incompetent underlings have actually done something so foolish as to ignore the charter laws and regulation, apprehending a Trainee Knight for no reason and jeopardizing our nation’s security in the process. I will immediately send them up to the local courts to be punished! Furthermore, on behalf of our security branch, I would be sure to provide recompense to you and your family.”
Dace was more than aware of the severity of this matter, and he had proceeded to do what he felt was the best way of settling the situation they were in. All that was left was to see just how magnanimous the young man Nicholas was feeling.
At worst, Dace would really have to tear off that Security Chief badge on his chest.
At the same time, the lanky Braun was already in a daze, his entire body shaking, “Re… Returnee. Just what… What foolishness have I committed?”
Having been using what power they had to bully the commoners for so long, they had already been used to judging the people by their appearance… The real identity of this frail and sickly looking youth had actually been that of a Trainee Knight.
Braun was in a catatonic state, completely speechless as he stared blankly ahead.
As for Charles, who had learned Han Dong’s identity after being sent flying with that one smack, he was shaking all over, even losing control of his lower body at this point.
However, Han Dong seemed completely unperturbed.
Aside from being uncomfortable wearing the handcuffs, he was perfectly fine… That was precisely the effect that Han Dong had been going for, using this ‘advantage’ that he now got to step on the local Public Security Branch, completely avoiding the need to reveal his identity and gain plenty of information thusly.
The only thing he had not expected was the appearance of the high ranking cavalier here.
“Nicholas, are you alright?”
Han Dong was just about to greet cavalier Fergus when the man had actually taken the initiative to extend his regards first.
“I’m fine. This was all just a misunderstanding…”
But who would have known that the usually passive expression on Fergus Barton would suddenly turn into rage.
Taking off his black metallic mask, Fergus stared down at the two security officers who had committed the heinous crime with great animosity in his eyes.
“This isn’t some misunderstanding… I came from the Commoner’s District as well and I know this bunch of weak cowards very well, just how disgusting these garbage humans are; all of them more than willing to use their job to avoid participating in the Space of Destiny, using what little right they had been given to bully the commoners! Oppressing and exploiting them! You guys are trash! Were it not for the fact that the Knight Regiments have strict rules about killing other humans, I would have long since beheaded you all and strung your corpses up for all to see! Forget about being sent to court! I’ll take their place and become judge, jury, and executioner right here, right now. Detaining an innocent Trainee Knight threatens the safety of humanity as a whole, which is essentially ignoring the Supreme Charter! No one would mourn for you sewer maggots if either of you were to die, and would most likely be spurned by thousands after your deaths. Nicholas, you have the right to take their lives right now.”
The cavalier was fuming.
His words had scared all the people in the Public Security Branch, while the other detainees continued to remain on their knees with their heads lowered… As for the two offenders, they were so frightened that they were about to faint.
Fergus looked like he was extremely outraged, but he was actually not too concerned with this sort of trivial matter. He had merely been intentionally acting agitated so he could use this incident to understand Nicholas’ true colors…
All eyes were now on Han Dong.
Most people would hope that Han Dong would slay these two blind scumbags that detained a Trainee Knight.
However… Han Dong seemed to lack any bit of killing intent, getting up and walking over to the stairs while flashing a mild smile to ease the tense atmosphere, “Slaughtering people isn’t good for anyone. Humanity is in a crucial time where we are tethering over life and death; a peaceful resolution and progress is what’s important… I have to ask; if we were to follow the rule of law, how would they be handled?”
Security Chief Dace immediately answered, “Once they are sent to the courts, there would only be three outcomes since they went against the Supreme Charter. The first would be the deprivation of all their rights and being labeled to become permanent slaves. If they do not end up working to clean the dirtiest of latrines, they would be sent to the deepest levels of the mine and spend the rest of their lives mining. The second outcome would be to become human bait, following the Knight Regiments in their excursions out of the city. The final outcome is a death sentence.”
“Peace is important. Let’s not just kill people so readily. There’s not many of us humans left, so every one of us should each do our best to fully exhibit our worth to society.”
Hearing Han Dong say this, Charles’ and Braun’s eyes evidently revealed quite a bit of gratitude, believing that this kind sir would not nitpick on this matter in a show of benevolence.
Han Dong, however, had ideas of his own, “In terms of worth… I feel the first option isn’t too bad. I hope this would give them the chance to turn a new leaf and become better humans.”
While turning over a new leaf was possible, there would be no way of them ever getting out in this life if they were to be sent down to the mines.
Security Chief Dace immediately replied, “I’ll be sure to raise your suggestion to the courts!”
With that, he sent his subordinates to haul the two culprits away and send them to the local law courts.
“Nicholas, my friend. Shall we immediately begin the relevant procedures for you? Please fill in the names of your family members in the specific column and their files will be unlocked to allow for their transfer from the Commoner’s District! At the same time, your family would no longer be requested to enter the Space of Destiny.”
Han Dong very politely said, “Cavalier Fergus seems to have some business with me, so I’ll leave these things to you guys! At the same time, you can simply find my sister Nina Valen if you need any decisions to be made.”
“That’s true, we won’t take up any more of sir knight’s time!” Dace immediately turned to his subordinates. “Someone, hurry over to fetch Miss Nina Valen over to the branch office. Make sure to do so with courtesy.”
And just like that, the Security Chief and his men watched Han Dong and cavalier Fergus leave as they stepped out from the station.
Just as Han Dong was about to ask Fergus for the reason he was looking for him, the man took the initiative once more.
Fergus’ expression was emotionless as he questioned, “You could have shown your Trainee Knight identification card when those two maggots showed up and identified yourself. Why did you have to purposely do all this?”
“… Heh…” Han Dong laughed foolishly as if he had also realized he had just made a ‘mistake’.
“The reason for this… Well, it’s because I simply can’t stand the look of the two, and it was exactly as what you had said before; exploiting what little power they hold to bully the commoners for such a long time. I had originally planned to head over to the Public Security Branch myself, was it not okay for me to have used this opportunity and legally punish those two maggots through the proper channels, without disturbing the peace?”
Fergus nodded his head slightly, “I can somewhat understand how you managed to clear a four-star novice scenario now… I had made a trip this time solely to satisfy my curiosity. You are quite clever, but what is the key to your success? To scare all the cellmates you were locked up with to the point they were foaming in their mouth, everyone who had seen you appeared to be as horrified as if they had seen a demon. Do you mind elaborating on this matter for me?”
