My Cell Prison - Chapter 40
Chapter 40: Chapter 40 – A Brutal Kill
“Amazing… In the world that I lived in before, there’s no way a youth of the same age would be able to achieve such standards. To be able to execute a swift attack as lithe and relentless as flowing water, most enemies would have already died by the hands of Kaz.”
This was the first time that Han Dong had witnessed the strength of a ‘Trainee Knight’.
Marveling in awe, it only made Han Dong crave even more for such strength from what the Fate points offered.
Kaz had devoted 3 Fate points to his main Specialization Class, ‘Crusader’, and had demonstrated a combination of physical strength and combat expertise that went well beyond the limits that a normal human being could achieve, blowing away the ghoul that had been more than a head taller and possessed far more developed muscles, and following that up perfectly with two slashes right at its chest.
However…
The crisp sound of clashing metal reverberated in the basement.
In the instant that Kaz had cut open the Ghoul’s rib cage with his Crosscut technique, he had immediately aimed his saber and stabbed right at the exposed heart.
But who would have expected that when the sharp tip of his silver saber connected, the black chitin that coated the ghoul’s heart had actually blocked the attack.
“A fully matured ghoul would actually grow a chitin armor around its weak spot?”
At this same moment, Han Dong had also made his move from behind.
A concentration of plague energy shot right out and flew precisely right toward the chitin armor that covered the heart… They could both visibly make out the plague slowly corrode the layer of black chitin in its chest.
Kaz smiled and prepared to go for a second stab.
However, that was when the ghoul, with its chest, split open and originally lying on the ground, had unexpectedly ignored its wound and used the explosive strength of its lower body to abruptly bounce back up to its feet.
Its sharp claws created sparks as it came into direct contact with Kaz’s armor, the powerful strength behind the monstrous claws sending him flying away.
*CRASH*
Kaz landed heavily on the opposite wall, as blood trickled out from the corner of his mouth upon impact.
The chest armor that he had been wearing now had five deep scratch marks on it, the middle of which had completely torn through the armor, and a clear laceration on his chest could be seen… The wound itself began turning green as pus leaked out in a matter of seconds.
Furthermore, because he had locked eyes with the ghoul during the course of the fight, the dark lines around Kaz’s eyes were becoming darker and darker over time. He was starting to have trouble keeping his mind straight and was occasionally seeing horrible hallucinations… This would greatly affect his ability to fight.
Han Dong furrowed his brow as he could tell that it was slowly becoming unfavorable for his side.
Sir Kaz had a righteous personality, so he was not one for schemes.
When he had sensed that there would be danger ahead back when they were in the secret tunnel, he had allowed Han Dong to remain at the halfway mark and proceeded to scout ahead all by himself… Just this episode alone was already evidence of Kaz’s character.
“Kaz, don’t move! Any further movement might increase your blood circulation and spread the fungal infection to other parts of your body. If possible, try and use fire to cauterize your wound so as to kill the fungal infection.”
“But, you can’t even take on that monster alone! I’ll need to-”
“DON’T MOVE! I HAVE A PLAN!”
Kaz was shocked to hear Han Dong yelling, never expecting that this physically weak Mystic could shout so loudly.
Han Dong had his eyes fixed on the ghoul, or to be more precise, he was focusing right at the chest cavity of the ghoul… The plague had already taken effect, and the chitin that protected its heart had already been severely weakened.
Because Han Dong had just shouted loudly as he did, it also drew the attention of the Ghoul right onto him.
The battle had to be decided here and now. Otherwise, if he were to abandon Kaz, the Crusader would most definitely be picked clean.
“Aku…” The monster uttered an unearthly language as it rapidly crawled toward Han Dong, its claws easily carving through the muddy ground.
Han Dong held his breath and steadied his heart.
He pointed his shortsword in his hand toward the Ghoul’s eyes.
Another portion of the energy in his mind was drawn out as a ray of plague energy shot precisely right between the Ghoul’s eyes.
The Ghoul lost its sight, causing the lunging monster to skew from its original attack trajectory.
Han Dong ducked to a side and nicely evaded the attack, causing the Ghoul to miss its target as it slammed right into a pile of debris in the basement as a result of inertia, its body now buried amidst the debris as a result.
“That’s a good chance!” Just as Kaz wanted to get up and lend a hand when he saw everything transpire, he felt a violent pain come from his chest, as if he was being torn apart in real time, causing him to breathe hard with one hand clutching his torso… He was completely unable to gather any strength.
It was at this moment when Kaz, with his fairly dim vision, saw a frightening scene.
He had no idea when a woman dressed in red had appeared beside Han Dong.
There was a thick layer of evil aura that wrapped around this woman like a liquid, giving Kaz a sense that she was providing lethal assistance as she lifted the kitchen knife in her hand.
“What is this… Am I starting to see horrific hallucinations? Or is she someone that Han Dong had summoned?”
Just as Kaz was having his doubts… the woman in red struck. The speed that she demonstrated was miraculously swift. Before the Ghoul could even get up from the pile of debris, her kitchen knife had already come hacking down.
It was hard to describe, but as Kaz watched Chenli dance with her kitchen knife, it gave him the sensation of seeing a Berserker fight.
Watching from afar, before the afterimage of the first stab had even disappeared, the second cut was already being executed.
Even Han Dong was shocked by what he witnessed as well. Chenli had not been able to demonstrate such high caliber expertise when they were in the Space of Destiny…
“Is this increased capability the result of drinking the liquid in that Holy Grail? Was increasing her combat rating from E+ to D- so significant?”
In the span of a short time, Chenli had managed to sever all four limbs of the ghoul with her kitchen knife.
At the same time, she had also found a metal chain strewn on the ground and tightened it around the neck of the ghoul, making it so it was impossible for it to become a threat by using its sharp fangs.
She left the final strike to Han Dong.
The chitin that grew around its exposed heart had completely corroded off by now.
He aimed his Shortsword right at its heart and pierced it with precision.
“AHHHHH!!!”
Even the Security Officers that were surrounding the building outside could hear the eerie cry the ghoul let out as it echoed in the basement.
Its body convulsed a few times before it stopped moving for good.
Han Dong quickly conjured out his syringe and extracted the matured Ghoul’s Cell Essence from Kaz’s blind spot…. He also secretly took one of its arms and transferred it into his Portable Prison.
Kaz was struggling with his blurred vision and unable to clearly see all these happening in front of him due to the pain from the wound he sustained. At the same time, he was still in shock as to how Han Dong had managed to kill the matured ghoul, completely not paying any attention toward the subtle actions that Han Dong did after the monster was slain.
“Alan! You’re… Really strong!”
“Didn’t I tell you not to move… Hmm? The infection has stopped?”
After finishing everything on his end, Han Dong had turned toward Kaz and saw that his infected chest wound had already been sterilized.
As for the sterilization tool, it was actually a Holy Water Grenade.
The Holy Water contained inside the flask was highly effective against the fungal growth that was found in this sort of cemetery, far better than using fire to cauterize his wounds.
However, Kaz was still fairly weak, needing to take a moment to rest before he could slowly recover.
“Is that your ‘summon’!? I heard that people who picked up the ‘Control’ specialization would be able to dominate evil spirits, summon beasts or draw up contracts with void creatures. I didn’t know it is possible to do so through ‘Mysticism’ as well!”
“It was just an unexpected harvest.”
Since Kaz had said thusly, Han Dong decided he could only follow along his line of thought and managed to conceal the truth.
“No wonder you look so weak even though you’ve got 2 Fate points invested into ‘Mysticism’. Looks like you’ve focused it all on strengthening your summons… That’s amazing!”
While they were having this conversation, it was as if Chenli was being shy and had returned back to the Prison after seeking Han Dong’s consent.
Kaz had witnessed plenty of summoned beasts’ disappearance act, so he was not in the least bit surprised.
“Come! We need to report the Ghoul Nest as soon as possible… Otherwise, this entire portion of the Commoner’s district would be in big trouble.”
Kaz quickly took out a burlap sack and collected the severed parts of the Ghoul, using them as proof of their assignment completion.
“Hey… Why is an arm missing?”
“Perhaps the plague corroded it away,” Han Dong softly answered.
“That’s true, you are using a Fate Weapon after all.”
Kaz was not in the least bit suspicious, lifting the burlap sack up and leaving the basement together with Han Dong.
Professional Knights arrived at the site not too long after and made quick work of the smaller Ghouls and completely destroyed their nest. Because of the discovery and subsequent report of the Ghoul’s Nest, Kaz had managed to receive a 50% bonus for the bounty assignment.
