Qin Yiling sighed inwardly: “Sigh, all of them want my food.”
She looked around. There were only the two of them sitting beside her; grandparent and grandchild. Everyone else was sitting on the other side, more or less eating some rations to replenish their energy.
It seemed that only this pair was sitting quietly beside her.
Qin Yiling couldn’t bear the sight of them looking so bony, and the boy looked like he was already malnourished. She had always hated seeing children and the elderly suffer the most.
Hence, she shifted a few steps towards them in a way that seemed casual and inadvertent. Then, when no one was looking, she took a piece of compressed biscuit and two pieces of chocolate and stuffed them into the little boy’s hands at lightning speed.
Although the compressed biscuit was only a square the size of a fist, it was three-fingers thick. Furthermore, the contents compressed in the biscuit was definitely several times the size of its outer shape.
Therefore, a piece of compressed biscuit was absolutely enough for them to take as two meals. If they put the compressed biscuit into water and cooked it, it would probably become even more substantial.
The little boy looked at the items that had suddenly appeared in his arms and his eyes widened, then he panicked and nervously covered the things in his arms. He even looked around guiltily, afraid that someone would see it.
He blinked at Qin Yiling, his eyes big and bright. He knew that these items were gifts from her.
He was somewhat at a loss, as if this was the first time he faced such a situation, while she had long turned her head away, not even sparing him a glance.
He lightly tapped on his grandmother, who was resting with her eyes closed.
The old lady opened her eyes and felt a wave of despair in her heart as she looked at her skinny grandson, unsure if the two of them would even be able to hang on until they reached their relatives’ house.
The little boy spread out his hands, revealing the items on his lap.
The old lady’s turbid eyes instantly lit up, and she hurriedly used her hands to hide the things again.
She immediately knew who these came from, because she had seen a certain lady eat it before.
With that realization in mind, she gratefully looked towards Qin Yiling, who was wiping her Swiss Army knife. Her lips quivered a little, but she ultimately bit back her gratitude.
She could not speak about it, because if others found out, it would definitely cause trouble for Qin Yiling. After all, no matter how much food she had, it wasn’t enough to share with everyone.
Seeing that everyone was still resting, the old woman hastily tore open the layer of paper and fed some chocolate to her grandson. Although she didn’t know what this strange thing was, she guessed that Qin Yiling most likely wouldn’t harm them. After all, they had nothing that anyone would covet or could exploit.
The little boy quickly chewed on the chocolate in his mouth, a hint of joy showing on his small face. It was slightly bitter, but there was also a touch of sweetness. It was delicious!
Noticing that his grandmother wasn’t eating, he immediately ripped the golden foil around the chocolate and tried to stuff one of the little black balls into her mouth.
The old woman was caught off guard when her grandson did this. She immediately shut her mouth and refused to eat it. But he seemed determined to make her have it, and continued trying to push it into her mouth.
She wanted to say that she wasn’t hungry and that she wouldn’t eat it, as she wanted to save it for him to eat when he was hungry. However, she was afraid that the moment she opened her mouth to speak, she would swallow the precious food in a gulp.
“Grandma, eat!”
Just then, the old woman sensed that someone was looking in their direction. Worried that the food would be discovered, she could only open her mouth and eat the precious chocolate. However, she didn’t dare to swallow it carelessly as that would be a waste of such good food.
