Qin Nuan was supposed to be auditioning for was a female supporting role in The Zhen Emperor’s Consort named Song Sisi. Song Sisi was Song Xuanran’s younger sister and the youngest princess of the state of Song.
This princess was supposed to be extremely beautiful, well-read, intelligent, and wise. The state’s ruler favored her since she was a child and was also the apple of everyone’s eye.
But her love line was fraught with a lot of difficulties. She had fallen in love with a general under Song Xuanran called Wei Yan. However, since one was a princess and the other was a subordinate, their identities destined her to a lifetime of loving someone who could never love her in return. She eventually agreed to a marriage of convenience with another state for the sake of her own state.
This role didn’t have a lot of screen time, but if one could grasp the character well, it should draw many fans.
Qin Nuan felt that Tan Xue had picked a pretty good role for her to start with.
After she was done with her makeup, Tan Xue’s car arrived at her doorstep.
Qin Nuan got into the car to find that there was another young lady in the car. She was dressed very simply, tied her hair into a large braid, was extremely fair-skinned, slightly plump, and looked very sweet when she smiled.
Tan Xue introduced her, “This is the assistant I’ve picked for you, her name is Li Jing. She graduated from university last year, and she’s already interned at our company for a year. Her makeup skills aren’t too bad as well, so you can get her to settle your makeup on most days. She’s a two-in-one deal.”
“Hello, Sister Nuan, you can just call me Xiaojing.” Li Jing looked like a quiet person, but she wasn’t the overly polite sort. She smiled brightly as she greeted Qin Nuan. “I’m suddenly feeling a little nervous. You’re the first artist I’m assisting on my own.”
Qin Nuan smiled at Li Jing and shrugged. “No problem, it’s my first time being an artist too. So we can share the nervousness you’re feeling.”
The two ladies were around the same age, so they got along in no time.
By the time the car reached the venue for the audition, Qin Nuan already found out Li Jing’s entire life story in great detail and also found out that she was a loyal fan of Song Zhan.
Her own assistant was someone else’s fan. Qin Nuan felt that she had to get this girl on her side instead.
After they alighted from the car, they walked into the room prepared by the drama production team.
Tan Xue told Qin Nuan to wait in the room for a while, then walked out to pass some documents to the director.
The room wasn’t huge, and there were already seven or eight actresses sitting inside by the time Qin Nuan walked in. They were all huddled in groups of twos and threes and looked up when Qin Nuan came in. But when they realized they didn’t know who she was, they looked back down and continued their earlier conversation.
Qin Nuan was more worried about doing a good job for the audition and wasn’t bothered by their reactions. She found a stool and moved it to one corner, then began to look at the original novel sections with mention of this character that Tan Xue had sent to her earlier.
Li Jing stayed by her side and touched up her makeup.
Qin Nuan was reading the text very intently when a girl with purple and blue curls looked like a typical social media influencer of sorts came over. “Hey there, what are you reading?”
Qin Nuan replied, “I’m reading the original novel that The Zhen Emperor’s Consort is based off.”
“So you’re pretty serious, huh,” chuckled the girl faintly. She didn’t sound like she was complimenting Qin Nuan.
When she saw that Qin Nuan ignored her, the girl continued talking anyway, “My name is Wang Zixuan. I used to do live broadcasts online and had a 10 million fan following, and now I’m the top dancer of the female idol group, T-SIX. What about you?”
“My name is Qin Nuan, and I’m a newcomer.”
With that, Qin Nuan continued to look at her own phone.
Wang Zixuan found that Qin Nuan wasn’t any fun, so she made a face and dragged another girl inside the room to accompany her to the bathroom.
After Qin Nuan finished reading the text and waited for a while, she saw that Tan Xue still hadn’t returned. So she walked out of the room and thought of looking around for a bit.
She walked down a corridor and had barely gone down the next one when she heard giggles coming from the bathroom. It was Wang Zixuan’s voice.
“Did you see Tan Xue just now? She’s our company’s jinxed manager, so whoever gets her is jinxed for sure, and none of the artists dare to let her be their manager now. I saw her bring a newbie in, and her name is Qin Nuan. I tried to search for her online, but she doesn’t even have a Wikipedia stub.”
