Chapter 15: Some People Are Born for This Job

The auditions started, and all the actors formed a long line outside the audition room.
Actors for the lead roles had been decided on a long time ago, so everybody auditioning today was auditioning for a supporting role.
Qin Nuan was in the line auditioning for Song Sisi, and very coincidentally, Wang Zixuan was lined up right behind her.
Wang Zixuan was reading the script for the scene she was performing later. When she noticed that Qin Nuan wasn’t reading the papers in her hand, she leaned over again and said, “Qin Nuan, let me see which scene you’re performing later.”
As she said, Wang Zixuan reached out to take the papers that Qin Nuan was holding onto.
Qin Nuan moved her body to one side and dodged Wang Zixuan’s grabby hands. She smiled faintly and replied, “Miss Wang, since you have so much time on hand, I suggest you take the chance to memorize your lines.”
What did Qin Nuan’s scene have anything to do with this woman?
Couldn’t she focus on her own scene?
Wang Zixuan scoffed coldly at her response and grumbled softly, “Tsk, who cares which scene you’re doing? There’s no way you can outdo me in acting anyway.”
Qin Nuan just smiled and ignored her.
Just then, the director’s assistant walked out and yelled, “Next person, Qin Nuan!”
Qin Nuan straightened her clothes and hair and walked into the audition room upon hearing her name.
She bowed at the director and gave a brief introduction of herself.
When she looked up again, a joy lit up within her eyes. She lifted her chin slightly and clapped her hands with a laugh as if she was gazing at something amusing in the sky.
Every expression of hers was sweet and adorable.
After that, she looked as though something in the sky had changed. She pointed at the sky as her fingers seemed to be holding onto an expensive and delicate handkerchief even though she wasn’t holding anything at all. A tinge of panic flashed in her previously joyful gaze.
She hurriedly stood on tiptoe and shouted, “Brother Yan! Brother Yan! The kite’s about to fall!”
After calling out those words, she looked as though she had seen a young and handsome man fly up into the sky, catching the kite that was about to fall out of the courtyard. She started to jump up and down excitedly. “Brother Yan is simply amazing!”
Once she had finished performing this scene, Qin Nuan stood still in front of the director and took another bow.
When she lifted her head again, Qin Nuan’s eyes were already filled with tears. Her almond-shaped eyes were glistening and watery as the tears welled up in her eyes and threatened to fall down her cheeks.
She looked at the space in front of her as if she was looking at the young man she loved deeply.
This fixed stare of hers was going to be the last time she was ever going to see this man.
Her voice cracked a few times, and it took a long while before she could finally piece one full sentence together. “Brother Yan, the person who is marrying a prince in the state of Qin, is merely Princess Song. Sisi will always remain right here.”
Once she finished saying that line, one crystalline tear fell her cheek at just the right time. The scene was tragic and moving.
The director, producer, and author of the original novel were seated in the last row of the audition room, and they were still savoring that last scene where her tear fell so beautifully even after Qin Nuan had finished her performance.
Qin Nuan was a little stunned when she saw that the director wasn’t saying anything, and she was suddenly confused.
Had she acted too well? Or too awfully?
Qin Nuan took another bow and repeated her concluding words, “Director, I’m done with my performance.”
This time, her words snapped everyone in the room out of their daze.
The director, Li Yu, clapped his hands first, then looked at Qin Nuan with a pleased expression as he said, “Qin Nuan, your acting skills are really not bad. I see from your resume that you don’t have any acting experience, and you’re a newcomer. But this level of acting is something that I might not be able to find even among a hundred experienced actors.”
She was only auditioning for a supporting room, but her acting was so realistic, it blew everyone’s minds.
The assistant director chimed in, “Some people are born for this job. This is what you call talent.”
The author of the original novel added, “She’s transformed the Song Sisi I wrote in the book into a lively and energetic person.”
Qin Nuan walked out of the audition room with the director’s assistant. Tan Xue was waiting next to the door and quickly asked her when she came out, “Xiaonuan, how did it go? Did the director say anything?”
This was her first time bringing Qin Nuan to an audition, so it was only natural for her to feel rather nervous.
