Chapter 25 Patient Who Went Into Shock Continuously
After being despised three times in a row, Zhou Can’s stubbornness had long risen.
It was good to enter the worst department.
It would be more beneficial to his growth. The emergency department’s medical team was relatively poor, and the competition was far less intense than the heavyweight departments. Even a newcomer like Zhou Can could get a lot of practice sessions.
Other than that, he had a grievance he wanted to air. Growing up quickly in the worst
department would allow him to prove himself
even more.
He wanted to show those department directors who did not choose him that not choosing him was their greatest loss.
“I do.”
Zhou Can’s answer was abnormally calm. “Pfft!”
Someone laughed mockingly.
Zhou Can looked in the direction of the sound angrily and saw Du Leng covering his mouth with an odd expression.
He probably felt that no one wanted Zhou Can as the first place, but he, the fourth place, had become the most sought-after talent. Then, when the worst emergency department extended an olive branch to Zhou Can, Zhou Can rushed to agree, as if he was afraid that no one would want him.
The strong contrast made Du Leng feel that it was a little funny. So he sneered.
Du Leng hurriedly coughed to hide it sensing Zhou Can’s angry gaze.
This small episode did not affect the directors from choosing people.
When it was Director Lou’s turn to choose someone again, he chose Jin Mingxi, who had an undergraduate degree from a normal university. He should have taken a fancy to Jin Mingxi’s work experience and surgical ability.
In the second round, Jin Mingxi was in second place, second only to Zhou Can.
If not for this person’s poor results in the written test, he would definitely be in the top three.
“Alright, we’ve used up the two spots in the emergency department. Please excuse me.” Director Lou greeted the other four department directors and left with Zhou Can and Jin Mingxi.
He must be very busy usually, judging from his hasty manner.
“I’ll bring you to the Human Resources
Department to register first. From now on, the
two of you will be doctors in the Emergency Department.”
He brought the two of them into the
emergency department.
“Oh, Director Lou is here. Please take a seat!”
The female staff from the Human Resources Department smiled like a flower.
She still had a proud expression on her face
and spoke very coldly when Zhou Can signed the contract with her not long ago.
Zhou Can really wondered if this woman had a split personality looking at her enthusiasm for Director Lou now.
“Register the two of them and let them be
managed by the emergency department in the
future. This is Zhou Can, and the other is Jin
Mingxi.”
Director Lou was at the bottom of the few large
department directors.
However, he definitely had weight in front of a junior personnel.
His words were especially effective.
The female staff quickly registered the two of
them as she smiled and said, “Director Lou,
you didn’t choose a talent with a higher education level? There are many graduate students among this batch of all-round House
Officers!”
Director Lou would not be able to compete with
the other department directors and could only choose the leftovers if there were too few graduate students. This was understandable.
However, more than 70% of this batch of
House Officers had graduate degrees. Director Lou had two spots, so there was no reason why he could not snatch either of them. “Our Emergency Department needs people with execution ability. Their educational qualifications are a little low, but their surgical ability is strong, and their medical diagnosis is not bad. They can be used when we bring them back. Besides, don’t House Officers have to be rotated? It looks good to recruit someone with a high educational qualification, but they have to be nurtured everywhere. They might go to another department when they finish their
term.”
After hearing Director Lou’s explanation, the female staff covered her mouth and giggled.
“Miss, don’t laugh. Our Emergency Department has a lot of work and a low salary. The risks are also very high. We really can’t keep them. Those who are slightly outstanding are quickly poached by other departments. I’ve thought things through now. I can’t keep those who want to leave. Just choose those who can work immediately.”
The Emergency Department had always been at
the bottom of the pyramid. It was its environment that determined that it could not retain talents.
It had a natural disadvantage compared to
other departments.
“You’re quite open-minded. Alright, I’m done
registering.”
With a department director watching, the
efficiency of the female staff increased several
times.
Humans were just realistic.
“Goodbye!”
Director Lou waved at the female staff and
brought Zhou Can and Jin Mingxi back to the emergency department.
“The Emergency Department is different from
other departments. There are often patients with headaches and fever. They seem to be
fine, but their condition might actually be critical. Once it worsens, it will quickly develop to the point where they need to be sent to the resuscitation room. Therefore, the two of you have to be especially careful. I’ll give you half a
month to get used to it. I’ll arrange for experienced doctors to take you there. If you don’t understand or are not confident, you have to ask your superior doctors. Don’t be afraid of being scolded or feel embarrassed…” On the way back to the emergency department, Chief Lou told the two of them some things to take note of.
He did not expect the two of them to be of any
help for the first half a month. It was fine as long as they did not cause trouble.
A nurse jogged over as soon as they entered the emergency department.
“Director Lou, quickly go to the resuscitation
room to take a look. That patient has already gone into shock three times. The family members are arguing very loudly. They’re just short of hitting someone.” The nurse panted and quickly reported the situation.
That patient must be the critically ill patient
that Director Lou had mentioned not long ago.
Shock was a very special medical term. When ordinary people hear the word shock, they might equate it with coma.
Actually, the shock was much more serious than the coma. Shock was a syndrome where the body suffers
from strong pathogenic factors. Due to the sharp reduction of effective circulation blood volume, the perfusion of tissue blood flow
would be widespread, continuously and significantly reduced, causing poor microcirculation function in the entire body and serious obstruction of vital organs. At this time, the function of the body would
lose its ability to reproduce healthy cells, tissue ischemia, hypoxia, nerve and body fluid factor dissonance.
Being in shock was actually on the verge of death.
It was equivalent to half of his body entering the gates of hell.
The coma might be serious or not. For example, the most common seizures were
actually not too dangerous after the patient fell into a coma. Sometimes, they would suffocate for a short period of time without oxygen, or suffer a heavy blow to the head or even be
frightened. It was easy to fall into a coma. From the above comparison, it could be seen that once the patient fell into shock, he had to be resuscitated immediately. Otherwise, he could die at any time. That patient had already gone into shock three
times in a short period of time. What illness did he have? Director Lou’s face was dark. He did not say anything and walked quickly to the resuscitation room.
Seeing that the director did not make any
arrangements, Zhou Can naturally followed him to the resuscitation room. Encountering a dangerous situation on his first day in the emergency department. Other than feeling a little nervous, he was also excited. As
long as he had strong medical skills, he could do well in the emergency department. He could get a lot of training opportunities. “Can your hospital do it or not?”
“I’ll definitely sue all of you in court if my son dies!”
“He was still conscious when he was sent over.
It’s all because of you quacks that my nephew went into shock. You’re killing people.” A few family members were throwing their
weight around at the entrance of the resuscitation room.
The words they said were very unpleasant.
Zhou Can had been an Intern for a year but he had seen very few of such scenes.
At this time, it was useless to talk to the family.
They should save the patient first. “Family members, please don’t be anxious. Our director is here. He will definitely do his best to
save the patient.”
The female nurse was quite brave and led the
way.
“Why did you have to wait until he went into
shock before appearing? What were you doing
earlier?”
“You’re so irresponsible.”
These family members were anxious and sad.
It was understandable.
However, such unreasonable insults to the doctor could not be encouraged. Director Lou was in a hurry to go in and save them, but they were blocking the door, seriously interfering with the rescue order. “Make way, make way! You will have to bear
the consequences if the patient dies because of your obstruction and interference.” Zhou Can immediately strode forward and reprimanded the family members with a dark expression
seeing that the nurse could not control the
scene.
The family members were really stunned by
him.
“Everyone, go over there and wait. We’re doctors. It’s our duty to save the patient. We’ll
definitely do our best to save your child. If you don’t trust us, you can transfer the patient to
another hospital. It won’t do anyone any good
if this continues.”
Even though these family members were a
little unhappy, they finally stopped. Director Lou was able to enter the resuscitation
room successfully.
Zhou Can and the others followed closely
behind.
Six to seven doctors and nurses scrambled to
save a child whose limbs were twitching in the
resuscitation room.
The child’s eyes were closed, his teeth were
clenched, and his face was pale. He looked like
he was in a bad situation. Life monitoring indicators for blood oxygen,
heart rate, and blood pressure were all very
bad.
“Director Lou, this child went into shock not long after he was resuscitated. The reason has
yet to be found.” An Attending Physician in his
forties was covered in sweat and could not be bothered to wipe it.
His brows were tightly furrowed, and his expression was solemn and filled with worry. “You guys are in charge of resuscitation first. Show me the medical record!” Director Lou was calm and did not panic like the other medical
staff.
Instead, he calmly searched for the cause of the shock.
After Zhou Can entered the resuscitation room,
he first made an observation of the child before
listening to Director Lou read the medical
record.
“The child caught a cold two days ago and had
a fever. He had no appetite, he was dispirited,
and he was sleepy. Treatment in a nearby clinic didn’t work. Seeing that the child’s condition
had worsened, he was sent to the emergency
department of Tu Ya Hospital for treatment.” It was just a very simple cold. How did it
become so serious? Zhou Can could only think of two situations.
Either the child didn’t have a cold at all since there were too many illnesses similar to a cold.
Or the family was hiding something. He was a young House Officer who had just
entered the emergency department. His status
was non-existent so he naturally would not speak rashly before he knew the cause of the
illness.
What he had to do now was to verify and
investigate them one by one.
