Chapter 125.1 – Cold and Sharp
The two servants that Qi Yang sent couldn’t catch up with Lu Qipei at all, and she disappeared into the crowded streets almost in the blink of an eye. The two servants pushed through the crowd for a while, but could ultimately only return without success.
It’s not that the servants couldn’t find her on the street, but Lu Qipei had long since left the crowded street – she chased the thief through the crowd and went into a secluded alley to the side.
The thief seemed to have noticed someone chasing behind him, but didn’t panic and continued running deep into the alley at the same speed, occasionally revealing her jade pendant and wallet for Lu Qipei to see.
This was obviously trying to attract her. Of course, Lu Qipei wouldn’t fail to see through this after being in the Court of Judicial Review for many years – in fact, she had developed a sharp sight thanks to it. So she wasn’t chasing him because she was lured be the thief who flashed her purse and jade pendant, but because she vaguely recognized the person in front of her and had guessed the mastermind who was luring her out.
The two of them went on a chase in the alley. When Lu Qipei slowed down, the man at the front would also slow down, and vice versa. It was only until the two of them had gone through enough twists and turns that there couldn’t be anyone left following them that the person in front finally stopped.
Lu Qipei also stopped her steps. Her breath was slightly disordered, but she narrowed her eyes and looked around calmly.
The person in front turned around, his ordinary face looking somewhat rigid. He quickly saluted Lu Qipei and presented her walled and jade pendant with both hands, “I beg your pardon, Young Lord. Qi Bo wanted to see you.”
Just after he said that, the door a house in the alley opened, and Qi Bo’s familiar figure appeared in front of Lu Qipei. Ever since that trip to Hequ county half a year ago, Qi Bo didn’t seen Lu Qipei that often. There two seemed a bit more estranged to each other, but when Lu Qipei saw Qi Bo again today, she suddenly found that he had aged a lot in the past six months.
He still couldn’t let go.
Of course, Qi Bo’s hatred wasn’t something that she had personally experienced, and she could not judge anything. Just from the fact that he had protected the Lu family’s estates all these years and raised two generations of their descendants one after the other, it was clear that his loyalty to the Lu family was beyond doubt.
Lu Qipei had a very complicated feeling about Qi Bo. She walked forward and casually retrieved her purse and jade pendant, then said, “I don’t have much time. If Qi Bo wants to say something, let’s make it quick.”
Qi Bo stepped aside to open a path, and Lu Qipei hesitated for a moment before following in.
As soon as the door was closed, silence returned to the alley. The person who led Lu Qipei here did not enter the door, but did not leave either. He moved aside and it wasn’t clear where he hid, but he was guarding the small house in the dark.
It was just a small house, and after Lu Qipei entered, she followed Qi Bo directly to the main room. There was not even a brazier in the house, and it was so cold in this weather that Lu Qipei unconsciously tightened her clothes.
Qi Bo turned his head and looked at her, the air around him even colder than the temperature in the room. “What an incredible move, Young Lord. I didn’t know you were so ruthless!”
Lu Qipei wrapped her fur clothes tightly around her body, and her eyebrows were slightly raised when she heard this. She asked back, as if she didn’t know anything. “What does Qi Bo mean by that?”
Qi Bo stared at Lu Qipei for a while, but the latter’s eyes were clear, as if she was still as innocent and harmless as when she was younger. He looked at her for a long time, but he didn’t know if she was truly as innocent as before, or if she had hidden thoughts deeper than his eyes could see.
Even after a while, it seemed impossible to find out anything from Lu Qipei. Qi Bo finally took out an envelope from his pocket and handed it over. Lu Qipei took it and took a look. As expected, what was written inside was about Rong, and Qi Bo knew even more than she did – Xie Yuan was defeated.
The Rong Emperor captured him alive together with the rebellious Right General, and avenged the Third Princess by tying him to five horses and dismembering him in front of his army!
Lu Qipei’s heart pounded fiercely after reading it, and a wave of ecstasy instantly surged into her, almost making her unable to control her expression right now. But fortunately, in the end she managed to hold back her mouth from smiling. She turned her eyes slightly, pretended to be calm and said, “So?”
Qi Bo narrowed his eyes and looked at her in suspicion, “Isn’t this your doing?”
Lu Qipei knew that almost all of the forces under her were taken over from Qi Bo, and he still had an influence to some extent. It was not difficult for him to find out about some things. So from the beginning, Lu Qipei was very cautious, and didn’t personally take a lot of action on the matter with Xie Yuan.
She only leaked two pieces of news; the first one to the Third Princess, and the second one to the Left General to lure them into the game.
As for everything that happened afterwards, it was Xie Yuan’s own choice. If he hadn’t been too arrogant, looked down on the Rong barbarians and thought he could control the overall situation, he might not have let the situation develop to the extent they did.
Those steps were ones he took on his own!
However, Lu Qipei was also very careful when leaking those news, and she used the men that she trained on her own. She immediately denied without any hesitation, “Of course not. The Emperor and the Crown Prince are both targeting him, so why should I do it myself?”
Other than towards Qi Yang, Lu Qipei was not that honest with others, and this was especially true when Qi Bo’s current attitude was difficult to predict.
It wasn’t clear if Qi Bo believed her or not, or maybe he believed her a little bit, but he was somewhat dissatisfied with her indifferent attitude right now. His grey eyebrows were tightly furrowed as he said, “Since you know who did it, aren’t you going to take revenge for your father’s murder?”
Lu Qipei smiled. It was not the gentle and innocent one she usually had, but a cold smile that she rarely showed. “Is Qi Bo joking with me? You know that there’s no affection between me and Xie Yuan, so this so-called revenge for father’s murder is no more than a joke.” After a slight pause, her voice sank, “My life is very good right now, and I don’t want to be involved in any hatred and revenge. Do you understand, Qi Bo?”
When she said the last sentence, Lu Qipei stared a Qi Bo, the sharpness in her gaze clear to see.
