Chapter 140.2 – A Night of Sweet Dreams
After all the fuss, the day was finally over.
Unlike the previous day where she decisively left alone, tonight Lu Qipei sent Qi Yang back to the door of her bedroom, and the two of them were somewhat reluctant to part.
The two had been sleeping together for several years, and they had long been accustomed to the other’s body warmth. Let alone Qi Yang, who had been unable to sleep lately and had nightmares every night, even Lu Qipei was not having a good time.
Now that it was time to say goodbye again, Lu Qipei was very reluctant to part. But Qi Yang just said that she would be mourning yesterday, and Lu Qipei moved out – it would definitely not be appropriate to move back tonight. It’s not like anyone would be staring at the princess’s mansion’s backyard anyways, if she didn’t move out right away last night, it would be fine to insist on staying there. But she already caused a scene last night, so how could she just swagger her way back?
Lu Qipei felt aggrieved, looking at the bedroom that was originally hers, feeling depressed.
Qi Yang was also a bit reluctant inside, but after her previously high spirits was swept away, Lu Qipei’s listless look was a bit amusing. Finally, Qi Yang just helped tidy her collar and said, “Alright, it’s getting late. You should go back and take a rest too.”
Lu Qipei was feeling rather unwilling. It wasn’t because she would have to sleep in the study tonight, but because she would have to sleep in the study for the three years of mourning! She didn’t think about it before, but now that she did, wouldn’t it take until the Little Emperor takes over power in three years and she took Qi Yang away from the capital before they could be together again?
It would take so long she couldn’t help but despair!
Lu Qipei was unwilling and was about to make a move. “Ah Ning, you haven’t slept well lately, right? You have really dark eyes right now.”
It was fine to say that in the morning, but they’ve been together all day, wasn’t it too late to say it now, so late at night?
Qi Yang finally swept away the haze she’s been in for so long, and she was in a good mood today, so she suddenly became interested and wanted to hear what Lu Qipei was going to do. So she pretended to be puzzled, and went along with her words, “I’ve been busy helping with the government and I haven’t been able to sleep well, so I’m planning to go to bed early tonight.”
Lu Qipei didn’t choke at all and followed up her words, “Then I will come inside the room and watch over you until you fall asleep, is that alright?”
Qi Yang didn’t expect her to plan like this and was stunned for a while, but Lu Qipei took it as a yes and directly pulled her into the bedroom hand in hand – in fact, no one was watching, so they could’ve done whatever they wanted. It was true that couples were not allowed to sleep together during mourning period, but there was no rule that they couldn’t have any contact with each other. Otherwise, who knew how many couples would break up after the mourning period.
So the Prince Consort, who just got kicked out of the room yesterday, made her grand entrance again today.
Lu Qipei didn’t want to do anything else; from the start, she just didn’t want to be separated from Qi Yang too much. Sleeping in different rooms was one thing, but some intimacy was still necessary. Otherwise, she really didn’t know how the two of them would get along in three years.
After entering the room and lighting the lantern, Lu Qipei looked at Qi Yang’s emaciated little face and was a bit distressed, “Go to bed early. I won’t disturb you, I’m just going to watch by your side, and leave when you’ve fallen asleep.”
Qi Yang saw the heartache in Lu Qipei’s eyes and softly answered ‘en’, but her heart was turning really soft. “Actually, you don’t have to watch over me, you should go back and rest earlier. There’s many affairs in the court recently, and you also have to guard against people causing trouble. You should also pay attention to your own health.”
Lu Qipei smiled and agreed, but didn’t obediently leave.
Qi Yang was helpless against her, and in fact she was not so determined to drive her away. After all, with Lu Qipei watching over her, she knew that she would not have trouble sleeping tonight. So she just removed her makeup and changed her clothes, and soon she already laid down in the bed.
Lu Qipei kept her promise and just watch over her by the bed. She didn’t say much; quiet, but full or presence.
Qi Yang laid on the spacious bed, feeling a little bit unaccustomed to it, and couldn’t help opening her eyes to look at Lu Qipei multiple times. In the end, Lu Qipei smiled and covered her eyes, gently saying, “Sleep.”
Her eyes were closed, and everything turned dark. The jade hands covering her eyes felt warm and soft.
Qi Yang closed her eyes, but could feel a gentle gaze. Not only did it not disturb her, it also filled her heart that had been empty for a long time – under those jade hands, in the peaceful darkness, she felt relieved and satisfied, and the long-lost feeling of sleepiness came before she knew it.
Before she felt asleep, Qi Yang vaguely felt that she might have forgotten something, but she couldn’t remember what it was right now.
In a daze, she seemed to hear Lu Qipei say, “Your Highness, the peach blossoms by the Qingshui River have bloomed again this year.”
Qi Yang fell asleep completely before she could finish listening to what Lu Qipei was saying, and she also forgot about what she was worrying about before. But in her sleep that night, she dreamed of the endless peach blossom forest, and the person that she met for the first time there.
After that, she had a night of sweet dreams, and a peaceful sleep that had been rare lately.
Author notes:
Lu Qipei (pouring cold water): Your Highness, stay sober, don’t be reluctant to let go after taking power!
Qi Yang (turning serious): It’s you who needs to wake up! There is nothing This Princess is reluctant to let go, other for you.
Lu Qipei (embarrassedly): Oh.
