Chapter 13: Comprehension Ability Increased
“Carefully observe every detail. Think carefully about how and where you will exert your strength if you are asked to make a move.” He Bing reminded him from the side.
Lu Heng did not respond. Instead, he was carefully simulating the move in his mind.
He had already simulated the entire set of moves of the army-breaking saber technique many times in his mind previously. It had been the only thing he thought about while working on the farm last night.
However, after seeing the figure in the holographic projection again, he suddenly discovered some new insights.
‘It seems that consuming the two flower poison ginseng plants has indeed improved my perception,’ Lu Heng thought to himself.
He had watched the holographic projection of the army-breaking saber technique over and over again yesterday morning. In addition, he had been simulating all the moves mentally yesterday night. He felt that he had become extremely familiar with them.
However, after watching it again today, he gained a lot of new insights. This was sufficient proof that his comprehension ability had improved.
Although it was not easy to measure one’s comprehension ability, he could still clearly sense the changes in his own body.
Soon, the senior-grade instructor in the holographic projection finished displaying the army-breaking saber technique moveset once more.
Lu Heng then turned to He Bing and said, “Senior Brother He, I’m done watching. Shall we go to the training hall and try it out?”
“Are you sure you’ve memorized all of the details of the first move?” He Bing asked worriedly.
“Yes, I’ve memorized it all.” Lu Heng nodded heavily.
He really wanted to say that, not only had he memorized the first move, he had even memorized the entire moveset. He was just itching to try them out personally.
In fact, if the space in the holographic projection room had not been too small, and if there had not been so many students watching the holographic projection, he would have already drawn his saber.
“Alright, let’s go then.”
He Bing shook his head, indicating for Lu Heng to follow along.
The two quickly left the holographic projection room and arrived at the training hall.
The training hall was very spacious. In the furthermost corner of the hall stood a fist strength machine.
In addition, there were many sandbags, wooden dummies, and other training equipment all over the place.
Lu Heng followed He Bing over to an empty corner.
He could not wait to unsheathe his saber.
“Eh, this saber isn’t sharp?”
Lu Heng looked at the saber in his hand and immediately realized that its edge was blunt.
“There are two types of practice sabers, which are the sharp ones and the blunt ones. As a newbie, it’s easy for you to injure yourself while using a sharp saber,” He Bing explained.
“Oh.” Lu Heng nodded and did not say anything further.
When he had unsheathed the saber, he incidentally attracted the attention of many students.
They all looked at Lu Heng with envy, and some of them even started whispering to each other.
“Let me have a look at your move first. I’ll point out your mistakes after that.” He Bing took two steps back and said to Lu Heng.
Originally, he wanted to show Lu Heng the move once, and then get him to follow suit.
However, he found that Lu Heng seemed to be a little too confident, so he wanted Lu Heng to first practice it according to his own understanding.
If Lu Heng’s move was full of flaws, he could take this opportunity to teach him, which would be more effective.
Clang!
Lu Heng did not say much. After hearing He Bing’s instructions, he immediately swung his saber.
The first move of the army-breaking saber technique was called the saber draw. However, it was not as complex a technique as Iaijutsu, which was a much higher level technique.
(T/N: Iaijutsu is a combative quick-draw sword technique.)
This move only required the practitioner to draw their saber at the fastest possible speed, and to adjust their stance as quickly as possible to prepare for both attacking and defending. This was so that the practitioner could properly respond to either situation.
The reason why the saber draw was the first move of this saber technique was because this saber technique was specifically created to deal with monsters.
Fighting against monsters was not like fighting against humans. A monster would never give their opponent the chance to prepare.
They would not wait for you to place your hand on the handle of the saber before launching an attack.
In other words, in actual combat, simply successfully drawing one’s saber was not an easy thing to achieve.
The best solution was naturally to keep the saber unsheathed at all times, and to constantly maintain a high degree of vigilance.
However, in reality, this was easier said than done. A saber had to be kept inside its scabbard in order to maintain its condition. Furthermore, it was impossible for a person to remain vigilant all the time.
Therefore, the next best thing was to ensure that every student was capable of unsheathing their sabers as quickly as possible by drilling the motions into their bodies through constant practice. They way, they would be able to respond instinctively upon discovering an enemy.
“Not bad.”
He Bing hesitated for a moment and said lightly.
He originally wanted to point out Lu Heng’s faults, but soon found that the other party’s first move did not seem to display any glaring flaws.
Therefore, he could only say those words.
“It’s already pretty good for your first time, but there are still some problems.”
He Bing strode in front of Lu Heng.
“Let’s not talk about reaction speed and the strength of your moves yet. Those factors have a lot to do with your physique. You would need to train your internal strength to improve those.”
“I’ll just talk about some mistakes you made when you exerted your strength…”
As He Bing continued speaking, his words helped Lu Heng to correct his mistakes.
However, Lu Heng soon realized that he had already realized these small mistakes that He Bing had pointed out the moment he made his move.
After all, this was his first time practicing the army-breaking saber technique, so mistakes were inevitable.
However, after he made his move, the holographic projection immediately appeared in his mind and, upon comparing it with his own move, he had quickly discovered his mistakes.
Not only that, he noticed more details than He Bing did, and also discovered more mistakes than He Bing did.
The things that He Bing was pointing out now were not even the most important ones.
“One more time.”
After He Bing finished speaking, he retreated a few steps and ordered Lu Heng to try again.
Lu Heng did not say anything more and immediately started to move again.
This time, he moved faster and seemed even more familiar with the move.
Of course, even though he was paying close attention to every detail, there were still some small mistakes that he failed to correct when performing the actual move.
There was nothing he could do about it. There were bound to be differences between the ideal form in his mind and the actual move he physically displayed. He needed more practice to slowly adjust and adapt.
“Not bad. You learn quickly. Looks like I don’t have to worry too much about your practice!” He Bing praised.
After saying that, he turned to look at the clock on the wall of the training hall and said, “You still have to practice hard to correct the mistakes I pointed out just now. You can practice on your own first. I will check on your progress tomorrow.”
“Okay,” Lu Heng nodded.
Seeing this, He Bing made a gesture of rubbing his stomach toward Lu Heng and left with a smile.
Lu Heng knew that the other party was in a hurry to eat monster meat.
After He Bing left, Lu Heng started to practice the army-breaking saber technique by himself.
He first practiced the saber draw move more than ten times and, when he had corrected most of the flaws he made, he could not help but start to practice the subsequent moves.
‘My comprehension ability has indeed improved significantly,’ Lu Heng thought happily in his heart.
The more he practiced the army-breaking saber technique, the more certain he was that his comprehension ability had improved a lot compared to before.
It was pretty easy for him to make comparisons between his previous and current state. When he had been practicing the introductory moveset back then, he had encountered many difficulties.
However, this army-breaking saber technique was obviously much more difficult than the introductory moveset, yet he had not encountered many obstacles while practicing it.
‘The flower poison ginseng is good stuff. It helped me to resolve a big problem.’
‘I wonder whether the flower poison ginseng will still be effective on me now.’
