Chapter 37: Natal Skill—Solicitation
“This woman’s tamed beast is very interesting. It also uses the Illusion Skill,” the Lord of Eternal Nightmare said with interest.
Illusion Skill?
“Is it also a dream-type tamed beast?”
“No, I didn’t sense the aura of a dream. Dream-type tamed beasts are not the only ones that use illusions,” said the Lord of Eternal Nightmare.
The sky was getting darker and darker.
The Lord of Eternal Nightmare left through the window silently.
Sleepiness spread quietly.
One by one, every family entered the dream world. Lights were turned off successively.
It was just after nine o’clock but, one after another, everyone was going to bed.
This was abnormal.
Except for the small street light on the ground floor of all the houses in the neighborhood, all the lights in the windows of the buildings were switched off. The neighborhood was completely dark. This was the kind of silence that would usually occur after two o’clock at night.
It created a stark contrast to the brightly-lit surroundings of the neighborhoods nearby. It was as if this place was in a different time zone.
The neighborhood seemed too quiet.
Mei Quanhe felt somewhat uneasy. She was standing behind the curtain and looking outside the window.
She did not switch on the lights.
The lights would expose her presence.
“Perhaps I’m overthinking.” Mei Quanhe frowned. She had a feeling that something was amiss but could not tell what it was.
She looked behind. Sitting on the sofa was a tamed beast that resembled a weasel.
The entire belly of this tamed beast was made of swim rings stacked on top of each other. It had two long, slender ears, and the tips of its ears were fluffy. The hair around its eyes was dark, and its stubby tail looked like a dandelion.
It was sitting on the sofa, holding and gulping a can of soda.
“Stop drinking. Look around for anything unusual,” Mei Quanhe said.
The tamed beast stood up and tiptoed, pretending to circle its surroundings several times.
It raised its head and sniffed with the tip of its jet-black nose.
In the end, it shook its head. It looked very innocent and adorable.
“I’m asking you to use your ability, not smell with your nose,” Mei Quanhe said sternly.
The tamed beast glanced at Mei Quanhe, took a sip of the soda, and then hiccuped.
It spat out a cloud of white mist.
The mist condensed into some tiny humans.
These tiny humans bore a 70% to 80% resemblance to Mei Quanhe.
One by one, they tiptoed and scurried out of the gaps between the windows, ran in the corridors, and climbed on the walls.
They were searching all around.
When they returned inside the house, they turned into a cloud of white mist that was swallowed back by the tamed beast.
The tamed beast shook its head at Mei Quanhe with a serious expression.
Mei Quanhe heaved a sigh of relief when she saw that no enemy had been discovered during the search.
Although the Pointy-Eared Weasel was a little unreliable normally, it still had certain abilities. Earlier, it had used the Fog Man Hunting Skill—a bloodline skill of its clan that could transform the energy in its body to condense fog men. The fog men could then be used to search, explore, or observe.
“It turned out to be a Pointy-Eared Weasel.” At home, Bai Ye was looking at the projection condensed by the Lord of Eternal Nightmare. He could see this very clearly.
The Pointy-Eared Weasel’s combat ability was not very strong amongst tamed beasts of its level.
However, it had some special skills and it was a good aide.
The Pointy-Eared Weasel was also found in the Obsidian Planet Monster Index.
This guy’s natal skill was quite amazing, so Bai Ye remembered it very clearly.
All monsters possessed the natal skills of their clan, but not all of them could awaken their natal skills.
Only one in 1,000 monsters per clan would be born with an awakened natal skill. Of course, monsters also had other ways to acquire or awaken skills.
The Pointy-Eared Weasel’s natal skill was Solicitation.
It would solicit a definitive word from its target, and according to the word, it would either make itself stronger or weaken its enemy.
Of course, someone had carried out specific experiments on this.
The final conclusion of the experiments was that… the nature of the Pointy-Eared Weasel’s Solicitation Skill was based on a special ritual called the channeling of destiny. There were two outcomes to this. One of them was stealing the enemy’s destiny and increasing its own power temporarily, and the other was converting its enemy’s destiny into bad luck.
Both of these outcomes were temporary and could last for a certain period of time. However, they did not have a permanent effect.
This was because the ritual involved a mysterious thing like destiny.
Therefore, most people shunned Pointy-Eared Weasels, and countless Pointy-Eared Weasels living in the wilderness had been beaten to death.
It was also rare to see a domesticated platinum-level Pointy-Eared Weasel in a house.
The Lord of Eternal Nightmare was hiding in an inconspicuous place and absorbing dreams secretly.
Because there had been too many individual dreams to absorb recently, it had invented a new way to do so: the series connection method!
It would shroud all the individual dreams with the Nightmare Space. Then, it would use the power of the Nightmare Space to form a thread before stringing these dreams on the thread like a stick of Tanghulu[1].
It had a mouthful.
The Lord of Eternal Nightmare closed its eyes.
This was a delectable and familiar taste.
It was still in the mood to comment on the taste of the dreams and had the time to do so.
“This nightmare is a bit dull and tastes very bland. I will add some spice to this person’s dream next time.
“This dream is a bit bitter. She dreamed of her deceased husband.
“This wet dream is a little fragrant.”
An hour passed.
The Lord of Eternal Nightmare’s aura finally crossed the bottleneck.
Silver one-star level.
It only took less than 10 minutes for the aura to solidify.
The area shrouded by the Nightmare Space was also expanding rapidly in the meantime.
At its peak, the Nightmare Space covered the entire sky.
In comparison to the other domains, one of the advantages of the Nightmare Space was its size!
“I’ve broken through.” The Lord of Eternal Nightmare landed on Bai Ye’s shoulders. It lowered its head and pecked at its own feathers.
Bai Ye was leaning against the sofa and resting his hands leisurely on either side.
Propping his legs up, he picked up the bottle of juice on the coffee table, bit the straw, and sucked on it.
“Lure her out of the city. There are too many people in the city, and we can’t create a commotion,” Bai Ye said.
“You can count on me.” The Lord of Eternal Nightmare transformed into a burst of black feathers.
The feathers landed on Bai Ye’s shoulders, the sofa, and the ground like melting ice and snow.
*
There was a faint sound of footsteps in the corridor.
Mei Quanhe stood up and looked outside the door.
Through the window on the first floor, she saw a familiar figure heading quickly out of the neighborhood.
“He went out?!” Mei Quanhe’s eyes flickered.
Opening the window, she rode on the back of the Pointy-Eared Weasel, her shriveled hands grasping its thick hair.
“Chase him!” Mei Quanhe suppressed her voice.
She was a little agitated, so her voice sounded distorted.
“Fool, don’t let your footsteps make a sound.”
The Pointy-Eared Weasel’s chubby body had an agility beyond that of ordinary people. Its stubby feet stepped on the ground and absorbed the sound.
It was night.
Bai Ye, who was ahead, was cautious. He looked behind from time to time. He even took off his coat along the way and changed his route.
However, none of this escaped Mei Quanhe’s eyes.
She followed him all the way out of the city.
Bai Ye stopped in front of an abandoned house in the suburbs.
There were many abandoned houses in the suburbs.
When she saw Bai Ye enter the house, Mei Quanhe’s face was filled with uncontrollable excitement.
Could the good stuff be hidden in this house?
Mei Quanhe’s eyes shone.
After surveying the surroundings to confirm that she was not being tailed, Mei Quanhe patted the Pointy-Eared Weasel on the head.
“Let’s go in.”
As soon as she stepped into the courtyard, a sharp yell came from the second floor. “Who is it?!”
Mei Quanhe was stunned.
She raised her head and saw Bai Ye standing behind the broken window on the second floor, staring at her with half his head exposed.
‘You are very careful. Too bad you encountered me.’
“Your name is Bai Ye, right? That’s a very nice name. If I have a son in the future, I have decided to call him Mei Baiye because you’ve brought me good luck,” Mei Quanhe said.
In the city, Bai Ye was sitting inside the house, staring at a projected illusion in front of him created by the Lord of Eternal Nightmare.
The projection on the table was 10 times smaller than reality.
While she had left the house and tailed him out of the city and to the villa, Mei Quanhe’s every move had been clearly monitored.
“This old witch.” Bai Ye was speechless.
“Make your illusion repeat my words. I want to talk to her from a distance,” Bai Ye told the Lord of Eternal Nightmare.
He had to secretly admit he was getting a kick out of this.
Right from the beginning, this old witch had been engaged in a battle of wits and courage with his apparition.
“You get to have a taste of my happiness now.” The Lord of Eternal Nightmare gave him an evil grin.
Bai Ye seemed to have discovered a new toy. “This is interesting.”
*
On the second floor, Bai Ye said lightly, “You won’t have a son, because today is not your lucky day. It is your death day.”
“You’re a sharp-tongued little guy.” Mei Quanhe smiled indifferently. “Weasel, use Solicitation.”
“Count on me.” The Pointy-Eared Weasel stood up like an old man.
It placed both its palms together, bent its waist, and bowed.
“Bestower, look at me. Do I resemble a human?”
Bai Ye laughed loudly. “You look like an idiot.”
The Pointy-Eared Weasel’s face turned pale.
Its body changed shape uncontrollably. Its neck became longer, and its body transformed from the shape of a ball to that of a chopstick.
Correspondingly…
A beam of an imperceptible curse flew across its body, aiming for the originator of these words.
The light-black curse headed inside the city.
The Pointy-Eared Weasel suddenly turned back and looked in the direction of the city.
‘Why is the curse flying toward the city? Isn’t the person who spoke right in front of it?’
Could that mean—
It shrieked, “Oh no, Master!”
“We seem to have been exposed. There’s something in the curse of this clan. It has something to do with destiny indeed,” said the Lord of Eternal Nightmare.
“Xiaowei.”
On a cabinet faraway, the mirror emerged.
Its back was facing Bai Ye, but it looked inexplicably lonely even from the back.
“Come here quickly. What are you doing?”
Xiaowei turned sideways by 45 degrees.
‘Are you still shameless enough to look for me? During this period of time, you have almost become like this smelly crow.
‘I know I’m just a mirror you use as a tool. You only look for me when you need me.’
Seeing that Bai Ye was really getting cross, it then drifted over to him reluctantly.
“Humph, just once. I’ll forgive you reluctantly by taking into account your sincere attitude.” The Super Dimension Mirror floated over to him slowly, its gaze lingering between Bai Ye and the Lord of Eternal Nightmare.
“Head to the east part of the city.” Bai Ye gave Xiaowei directions.
After Xiaowei locked on the area, the mirror spun and colorful lights glowed.
Bai Ye clenched his fist and punched through the mirror’s surface.
The sound of wind and thunder shook the sky.
A crack was then opened in the sky out of the blue.
A giant iron fist landed from the sky and smashed hard on the ground!
Boom!!!
The soil gave way.
The hard soil looked like cracked biscuits that crumbled and broke layer by layer.
The Pointy-Eared Weasel and Mei Quanhe were both within the range of attack and could not escape in time.
The giant fist rose.
What remained on the ground was a five-meter deep hole the size of a football field.
There was a small hole in the pit.
A pool of blood was lying beside the hole.
The five claw-like fingers were grabbing again!
Large tracts of mud were created, and mud poured down from the gap between the fingers like a waterfall.
The fur of the Pointy-Eared Weasel was stained with blood. It was holding Mei Quanhe, who had her eyes closed, in its arms.
It looked up at the sky as if it wanted to say something.
However, the heavy punch that landed again did not give it a chance to do so.
Boom!!!!
One punch, two punches, three punches, four punches.
“Are they dead already?” Bai Ye asked the Lord of Eternal Nightmare.
The Lord of Eternal Nightmare had a strange look on its face. “They are still breathing a little.”
They were still alive?
They truly deserved a beating.
Perhaps his strength was too dispersed and had not done enough damage to the individuals.
Bai Ye speculated.
The five fingers dug in the ground and the Pointy-Eared Weasel was dug out very quickly.
Although the Pointy-Eared Weasel could dig holes, it was not a soil-based tamed beast after all.
“Don’t kill me. I’m a member of the Mei Family. I won’t come here again. If I die…” Mei Quanhe, who was in the Pointy-Eared Weasel’s arms, pleaded.
While lying on the ground, Mei Quanhe saw the giant hand retreating into the crack and heaved a sigh of relief.
A moment later, her eyes widened.
A giant claw stretched out of the crack at lightning speed and landed from the sky!
A deep hole was left in the ground.
“Ha ha ha.” The silly eagle struggled to flap its wings. Bai Ye was holding its paw and pulling it back through the mirror.
“They should be dead by now, right?” Bai Ye asked the Lord of Eternal Nightmare.
The Lord of Eternal Nightmare nodded silently…
