My Third Gentleman - Chapter 54
Chapter 54: It Was Not His Fault
He raised his eyebrows, the cigarette clipped between his middle and index fingers. He gently pressed his thumb against his temples and truthfully answered, “Miss Jing had sudden stomach pains and was taken to 518 Hospital near Film and Television City.”
“What? Shuangshuang’s stomach is acting up again? I merely forgot to inform you guys to take note of your mealtimes, then this happens? Did you know that she had undergone surgery because of internal bleeding in her stomach? It took half a year for it to get remotely better. Speaking of this, I would like to slaughter that scumbag of an animal. Torturing a perfectly normal person to this level…” Su Ran rambled indignantly.
Mu Jinchen did not interrupt her and instead frowned as he listened to every word. Su Ran continued to ramble before she hung up without even a ‘goodbye’.
He settled his emotions, put one hand in his pocket, and slowly strode back to the room.
He attracted the gaze of many on his way. He was aware that he was good-looking, but he never liked the attention. When abroad, the differences in Western and Chinese beauty standards meant that this did not happen too often, but it happened way too frequently back here.
This was the second time today that someone hung up on him. This had never happened before; he always held the upper hand.
He realized that there were many things that he needed to get used to back in S City. These things which he had no control over will continue to happen. He would just need to bear with it.
After Su Ran hung up on Mu Jinchen, she hurried to 518 Hospital. It was already ten o’clock at night.
Wushuang was lying down at that moment, bored out of her mind as she flipped through some magazines. She had sent Aunt Wu home to rest.
To say she was surprised to see Su Ran suddenly at her ward was an understatement; Wushuang was moved. Although not related by blood, Su Ran was a genuinely devoted friend that expected nothing in return.
She extended her arms and smiled from ear to ear. “Ranran, get over here.”
There was no need to ask how Su Ran knew she was here. She had neglected her and should have borrowed a phone to inform her. Moreover, she thought that Su Ran would at least be busy until tomorrow.
Su Ran returned her hug. Her eyes were red but her mouth was unforgiving as she rambled, “Jing Wushuang, how could you neglect your stomach? I was looking all over for you. Why didn’t you tell me you were hospitalized here?”
“It’s my fault. I thought you were busy.”
“Your problems are my problems. Speaking of being busy, how did this happen?”
“I just forgot that it was time for a meal, that’s all. Look, aren’t I all better now?” Wushuang looked at Su Ran’s reddish eyes and could not help but tear up herself. Only the best of besties would feel like this.
“That b*stard Mu Jinchen. Does he think everyone’s a workaholic and made of steel like him?” Su Ran cursed Mu Jinchen.
“It’s okay; it wasn’t his fault. There’s no way anyone could’ve known about my condition, and I only have myself to blame for it. Let’s not talk about others now and just have a good chat, then you can go home. The facilities here are basic and it’s inconvenient for you to spend the night. You don’t have to drop by tomorrow as well. I have someone to take care of me.”
Su Ran could not go along with her suggestion. “If you can stay here, why can’t I? I told you to come work for me, but you refused. It’s relaxed there. How much is Chenyu paying you? I’ll increase it by fifty percent. You’ve been running around like a spinning top, but all for what?”
Su Ran continued to relentlessly crucify Wushuang.
