- Chapter 10 - My Uncle and I Choose the Life That Will Not Be Ruined Chapter 10
“It’s a very nice weather! It’s a perfect day for a picnic!”
She regretted for thinking that maybe, the loud voice soprano-type that belongs to that boy which resonates grandly would have been better put outside.
Edmont is in perfect form both in-doors and out-doors.
The siblings were walking along the grassland, bathed in the sunny spring light. The escorts and guides are walking in front, and the maids and escorts are walking behind them with luggage. What’s more, it’s only a 5-minute walk from the horse-drawn carriage until just now. The picnics of the sons of the great nobles were lavish.
“Okay! Let’s do it here! Here!”
The excited Edmont instructed the guides where to place the table.
Both Edmont and Miriella are genuine aristocrats. They inherited from they parents the ability to make one own decisions and the lack of hesitation in giving orders to others.
While the servants who also serve as escorts prepare the table and chairs, the maids open the baskets containing food and tableware and spread out the tablecloths.
Meanwhile, the older brother was chasing flying butterflies and the younger sister was picking flowers.
“Obou-chama, Ojou-sama, please this way.” [TL note: Obou-chama is young master. and no, the ‘chama’ part is not sarcastic, they really call young master as one.]
It’s a siblings only picnic on the estate of the Fowders family, with no outsiders involved.
The table was lined with sandwiches and cheese made with eggs and ham, Miriella’s favorite chicken soup, and thick sausages.
Miriella handed the bunch of wildflowers she picked to Melisa and sat down.
“Lord! Thank you for the mercy of the earth and heaven! May that food be brought to us every day!”
“Itadakimasu!” said Edmont, praying with unprecedented vigor, with his forehead rested on his overlapping hands. Miriella also offers her prayers.
Meal began while the servants, who had never seen such scene before, endure their laughter.
“It’s delicious.” (Miriella)
Miriella stuffs a sausage into her mouth with a smile. You can see that the chefs are working hard to ensure that the soup and sausages are delicious even when cold. With a single voice from Miriella, the servants also divided the staff into two groups and took turns eating.
“It’s delicious isn’t it! The air is delicious, and it’s the best! You can’t have a leisurely picnic like this at the academy, so I’m happy!”
“Onii-sama, you were going back to the academy the day after tomorrow, weren’t you?”
“That’s right, so tomorrow I will have to show up at the Marquis Ward house. It’s troublesome!”
“To the Marquis Ward family? Why?”
Speaking of the Marquis Ward family, it’s an upper-class noble family that her family and they have had a relationship with for a long time. What does her brother have to do with the Marquis Ward family?
“I have to go and say hello to my fiancé!”
“Fiancé?!”
To think it was a fiancée.
To put it boldly, Miriella was shocked to learn that her older brother, who was still a little young for a twelve-year-old, had a fiancée.
“A ten-year-old daughter like you, called Anessa-jou!” (*Miss Anessa*)
“Onii-sama, so you have a fiancé. I didn’t know.”
“It’s a story that has been decided since Miss Anessa was born, so I guess I forgot to tell you again! I’ve already met her three times!”
Edmont, who mumbles and stuffs his mouth with sandwiches, doesn’t particularly show his feelings for the other person. One knows that aristocrats’ engagements are rarely based on love, but it’s an understatement to say it’s troublesome.
“What kind of person is Miss Anessa?”
“Unlike you, she’s a quiet person! She’s always mumbling, so I can’t hear what she’s saying, and I don’t know what she’s thinking!”
Isn’t that your fault? Everyone in the place swallowed the words.
“Ah!”
“What’s wrong, Onii-sama?”
“Come to think of it, I invited Miss Anessa to go fox hunting before, but she didn’t come! Even though I was ready, on that day I received a notice of refusal!”
Miriella puts her hand on her chin *fumu* and twists her neck.
“Could it be possible that just like you, Miss Anessa hates fox hunting?” (Edmont)
“Well of course that would be so.”
Miriella looked up at her brother in amazement. The fact that he doesn’t have enough delicacy to the point of hating it was learned yesterday, but sure enough its still so overwhelmingly lacking.
“As I said yesterday, girls who like hunting are rare. Besides, Anessa-sama is a quiet person, isn’t she? Well of course she won’t come.”
“I wish she could say it on the spot like Miriella!”
“She’s a quiet person, and moreover, we’re from a duke’s house and she’s from a marquis’ house. She’s not even a wife yet, so it might have been difficult to refuse on the spot.”
Edmont stopped eating with a genuinely surprised look on his face. And he asks, “Then what should I do…” with a volume reduced by 30%.
When asked, Miriella grinned and raised her index finger.
“Talking a lot should do just fine.”
Right? said Miriella Looking at Melisa and the others, the servants all nodded.
This is what Miriella, who was scolded by Leon and asked for advice, did in order to improve her relationship with the servants.
“It’s not enough to just talk. Listen to what the other person has to say. After that, if you properly say thank you and apologize, I’m sure you’ll be able to get along better.”
“So that’s what it is!”
“Onii-sama, you are listening to my story right now. Please listen to Anessa-sama’s story as well.”
“I got it!”
The servants who are listening to the exchange chuckle and laugh. they don’t know which one is older. When the adults were healed by the lovely exchanges, Edmont stood up after finishing his meal.
“Let’s ask Miss Anessa what she wants to do tomorrow!”
“That’s good. Good luck, Onii-sama.”
“Yes!”
Afterwards, Edmont picked flowers and chased butterflies as gifts for Miss Anessa, and got into the carriage on the way home with a satisfied face. Miriella picked additional blue flowers to make her pressed flowers to make bookmarks for the book Leon gave her.
—————–
When she was entrusting her body to the comfortable fatigue in the carriage, Edmont poked Miriella’s knee. Miriella, who was about to fall asleep, opened her eyes and turned to face her brother.
“It’s about Oji-sama.”
“?”
“Oji-sama, as you probably know, he is an adopted son and has no blood ties.”
her brother suddenly started talking about Leon, and Miriella tilted her head.
“Father has no intention of giving Oji-sama a position in our Duke of Fowders household or in our territory. I too have the same idea!”
“Why?”
“I don’t know what kind of fire Oji-sama will cause to our family, even though we are not related by blood. In that case, he should take advantage of his family status and get a job outside.”
With a voice that is as good as the rattling sound of the carriage, her brother continues.
“Since Oji-sama has quit being a shut-in, looks like Father told Oji-sama about it. So Oji-sama will eventually get a job and leave the house.”
“Why do you tell me this talk?”
“Because when I saw it yesterday, Miriella seemed to be attached to Oji-sama. Should remember it well that we can’t be together forever.”
Miriella’s face distorts at once.
The story Leon told at yesterday’s party overlaps with her brother’s advice now. It’s nothing strange, and Leon must be convinced. However, it was a story that Miriella did not want to accept.
“Onii-sama, you are mean.”
“My younger sister, whose face and personality have become prettier than before, misses Oji-sama more than she misses me. So of course it makes me want to say something mean!”
Edmont, who had returned to his usual tone, let out a loud voice as if to change the atmosphere. This should be the end of the story. Miriella puffed her cheeks and glared at Edmont, but he just closed his eyes.
—————–
The day after her brother returned to the academy, Miriella received her first letter from her brother. There were beautiful and methodical characters that didn’t match his strong personality.
ーーWhen I did as you said, my fiancé-dono smiled happily for the first time. From now on I will talk to her a lot.
After reading the letter from her brother, Miriella quietly put it away in the letterbox.

[TL note: so I just noticed that I typed “” on texts I edit myself, but “” for texts I just left or I edit a little. I know I would have no shame for blaming this on my bad eyesight and glasses but I’m gonna do just that. For those who noticed this, and felt bothered by it, feel free to tell me. its kind of not possible for me to re-edit all my previous chapters. including my other series. but if its to continue from this chapter and onwards, then all I can say to that is, I’m gonna do my best.
