Chapter 11: The Ingrate and the Pervert

Upon looking at the questionnaire, Reese was really impressed with the people who seemed to be completing it seriously. How were they so good at putting on a straight face? It looked as if they were actually answering profound philosophical questions.
Seeing that Reese was struggling to answer, King knew that this woman had come to understand his good intentions towards her. He secretly pursed his lips, trying to suppress the smile that was threatening to spread across his face.
However, he failed, as the corners of his lips still curled up slightly.
Finally, an hour later, everyone had finished filling in their answers and submitted them to King.
Then, they lined up one by one and waited for their evaluations and the explanations for their grades.
“You wrote in great detail, so you have received decent results. As per the regulations, Dr. Snow will look for you for psychological counseling tonight.”
“For the section on self-reflection, I think your description was too vague for a doctor to thoroughly understand your inner thoughts. Dr. Cherri will have a more in-depth discussion with you tonight.”
…
“You…” King looked Reese up and down before he said rather glibly,” You wrote quite well. The scores you received weren’t bad either. Congratulations, you get to eat some meat today.”
Reese was extremely satisfied with her results. However, she would probably be happier if this werebeast had not stared at her chest while talking about eating meat.
She discreetly glared at King, trying to say: Look what you’ve done!
King said nothing, but his gaze was glued to her face, making Reese shudder. He then left without saying a word.
All of this happened in a span of only ten seconds or so. However, the mysterious exchange of glances between them was still noticed by some observant ones.
Well, at least thanks to King, Reese could have a full meal for lunch today. Although it wasn’t exactly sumptuous, it was already her most satisfying meal since arriving at this place.
During the rest time after lunch, she lay in bed. Just as she was about to take a nap, she heard a rhythmic knock on the door. It was probably King again. She was already getting used to this.
She tidied up her clothes on the bed and was about to call him in when the man opened the door and walked in, “full” of self-awareness.
“What are you doing here?”
“I’m here for your psychological counseling session. I’m your doctor-in-charge.”
Reese thought back for a while. “I thought you said you weren’t involved?”
King sat on the edge of her bed and looked around. “They’re them and you’re you. Understood?”
Raising his hand, he gave her a gentle pat on the head.
“You!” Reese had wanted to lean over and hit him, but she did not expect him to have predicted her movements. He stood up from her bed in one smooth motion and went to the corner to search for something in his pockets.
“By the way, I’m here to ask you, ingrate, why did you throw this thing away?”
King held up something the size of a rice grain. It sparkled in his hand like a diamond.
“You still have the cheek to say that? Why did you put that in my room?”
“What’s wrong? This was the brightest and smallest one that I had carefully selected! Are you still not satisfied?” King was teasing her on purpose because she was simply too adorable when ruffled. Her eyes were sparkling, brighter than all of the diamonds that he had collected.
“You pervert! You secretly installed a camera to peep on me!”
“I installed it for your own good. You ingrate, how could you misunderstand me?”
King sat on the bed again.
He suddenly leaned closer to Reese and lowered his voice. “Do you actually think that those people are any good?”
Then, while she was feeling alarmed, he behaved mannerly and gave her some space.
“Those disgusting things used to be crocodile soldiers, but they eventually became bandits. They have harmed many girls since their arrival. However, no surveillance cameras are installed inside of patients’ rooms for privacy purposes. As a result, there wasn’t enough evidence.”
The werecrocodiles had bullied her but stopped immediately when they were driven away. Reese had not considered the possibility that they were after more than just verbal harassment. If they had secretly attacked her, the consequences would have been unimaginable.
“So far, the area you are in is only the periphery of the hospital, but out of the humans or werebeasts inside of the hospital, how many good ones do you think there actually are?”
Reese nodded. Perhaps she had thought too kindly of them.
“This is the laxest area in the entire hospital. The places with surveillance cameras are connected to the interstellar network for public supervision, so this is considered the least stringent and safest area. Many come in to escape legal sanctions, although some are also sent in forcefully.”
Reese stiffened a little, which did not escape King, who had been watching her closely all this while.
“The director of this hospital is of very special status. If you run into him, you must not provoke him! Otherwise… he will capture you and feed you to the big bad wolf!” King, who had been serious just a moment ago, suddenly made a joke. This caused Reese, who had been listening attentively, to stomp her foot in annoyance.
Truly, she was beyond infuriated by this person in front of her. He had clearly been close to divulging the truth behind this mysterious hospital, but now the story was interrupted by his digression.
Reese spouted every name she could think of. “You’re the real big bad wolf, the big baddie, the peeping Tom!”
King saw that he had angered this little wild cat again. His voice carried a hint of amusement as he said, “Eh? Is this ingrate calling someone a pervert?”
“Y-y-you! I’m calling you!”
“Ha, then I’ll show you what a true pervert is!”
