Chapter 15: Settling the Aftermath

Reese could feel the man’s breath and his thunderous heartbeat, but she said nothing.
She had a sudden inkling that the reason this man was acting strangely was due to her.
“I thought I was too late!”
Reese could hear some mumbling beside her ears, and it had a tone of annoyance.
“Thank goodness you’re smart, you wretched girl.”
Reese couldn’t help but laugh. What was wrong with this werebeast? Couldn’t he say anything nice?
However, she was magnanimous and decided not to argue with him, since he had been so worried for her.
She raised her hand and gently patted King’s back.
He nestled into her shoulders like a docile cat, taking in her scent. He felt reassured by her scent.
Seeing that the man did not start groping her, Reese knew that he was really shaken, so she placed her hand on the back of his neck and stroked gently to comfort King.
Her strokes felt soft and warm.
While she was thinking that he seemed quite dependable after all, King suddenly started speaking.
“I thought you had been raped and then killed by them.”
He sounded worried for her.
“Everything is alright,” said Reese soothingly. “This is the pharmacy—I specialize in this area. They didn’t stand a chance.”
“That’s right, you’re mine. Without my permission, no one can touch you!”
Tsk tsk, such an overbearing declaration. But he looked very cool.
King let go of her waist and they faced each other.
His hand landed on her chest. “This is mine.”
Downwards, at her intimate area: “This will also be mine in the future.”
Looking at how he was saying such nonsense in a domineering and lewd way, Reese did not want to entertain him anymore.
She struggled as she tried to leave his embrace, but he only pulled her closer.
They were pressed together, and his hands were even on her hips.
She was just about to say something when she noticed him moving closer towards her bit by bit, his movements soft yet sacred.
King’s lips were slightly cold as they landed on her forehead, then her nose, and her cheeks.
Finally, they stopped and lingered on her lips, as their breaths merged into one.
There was silence. For two seconds, the two of them remained in this ambiguous position. One was in a conservative position, while the other was leaning gently.
“And this area too.” Finally, King attacked. With the last trace of fluster within him, coupled with a faint sense of smugness, he conquered her mouth.
Finally letting go of her, he stroked her gently as if he were combing a cat’s fur.
Then he suddenly remembered to ask—Where were the three of them?
“Where are they? Are they dead?”
Reese did not expect King to ask this. After all, the thought of killing them had never once crossed her mind.
She was a little surprised.
“Over there.” She pointed at the shelves inside. “They’re… just asleep. I used some drugs.”
King wasn’t in a hurry to go over. He just stared fixedly at this human woman. She was indeed beautiful, and she was indeed delicate.
But she was also smart enough. “Alright, even if you made a mistake, I can protect you no matter what, as long as you trust me.”
However, as if he did not want to hear her reply, he turned immediately and went looking for the three werecrocodiles.
But only King himself knew how much he actually wanted Reese to reply. He was just afraid that everything that had just happened was nothing more than a bubble, so he did not dare to listen for her response. He was afraid of the bubble bursting and being disappointed and hurt.
King laughed at his own cowardice. Meanwhile, Reese was now behind him, feeling safe with him. He felt much more reliable than that sweet-talking fiancé of hers from her past.
Soon, they arrived at the shelf where the crocodile men were. All three of them were sleeping soundly, drooling all over.
King felt that they looked too dirty, so he only kicked them with the toe of his boot, and found that they were still sleeping soundly as they did not react at all.
“What did you use on them?”
“That,” Reese pointed to the powder she had used for her “crime.”
King was surprised to see what she was pointing to. “You know quite a bit.”
“Of course,” Upon discussing her expertise, Reese immediately felt immense pride.
After all, that was her aspiration and it was what she strove in.
King only responded with a faint “Mm.” He didn’t say much. “I’ll handle this matter. Don’t say anything else, and you don’t know anything about this drug either.”
Reese nodded. Perhaps that was the best solution.
King’s eyes stared intently at the wall with searching eyes. Then he touched a specific spot lightly, and a small holographic screen appeared. Reese did not get a good look at what he typed on it, but it seemed to be a series of codes. When it finished loading, the word “Application Success” appeared.
King turned around and saw a look of curiosity and a hint of intrigue in Reese’s eyes.
“This is the authority I have as a doctor of this hospital. Earlier, when I was reviewing your progress for your classification task in the pharmacy, I discovered that there were intruders here. Now, I have already alerted the relevant management personnel to handle it, and this has nothing to do with you anymore.”
Reese understood what he meant. Her involvement in this incident had been removed and this matter would no longer concern her.
“What about them?”
“They… broke into the restricted area of the pharmacy and broke bottles of valuable medicine. Naturally, the hospital has its own disciplinary measures.”
With that, many of the nearby shelves collapsed with a wave of his hand, and crisp sounds of glass shattering all about rang out..
