Chapter 22: Mediation
Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios
Everyone dispersed, leaving only the three of them. Mr. Gates took the initiative to mediate. “Let’s talk about this outside.”
The others could only suppress their curiosity within, as they did not dare to disobey Mr. Gates’ instructions. Their hands continued on their artworks, but their eyes were secretly affixed on the three of them as they went out, with the teacher in front and Julie close behind. Only Reese was walking leisurely as she followed after them.
Soon, no one could see them any longer, as a thick metal door blocked their inquisitive lines of sight.
“What is going on with both of you? Julie, this is not the first time!”
Mr. Gates had a headache. Julie had already destroyed Reese’s work the last time, but it was unfortunate that there was no evidence. Now, what was she up to again?
Meanwhile, Julie had long been chasing after Mr. Gates, so she could not be bothered about anything else. She only cared about gazing at his handsome face.
Looking at her smitten expression, Mr. Gates knitted his brows. His eyes surreptitiously swept across the magnificent view on her chest before he ultimately turned to Reese and apologized. “I’m so sorry that this happened in my class again. I want to apologize.”
“To make up for this, I will give you the best grade for this assignment. How about it?”
Reese did not expect such an offer. After all, this was actually Julie Smith’s problem and had nothing to do with her teacher. Still, she accepted it—she would have been a fool not to.
“Yes, thank you, sir. I was really terrified earlier,” said Reese, though this was only half true. Victims often received more if they seemed weaker.
“I’m deeply sorry. You should go back first. I’ll handle the rest with Julie.”
Reese nodded and went in.
Actually, she really wanted to stay and hear what the two of them talked about. Unfortunately, she couldn’t them for her hearing was not sharp enough. If only King was here, then perhaps…
No! Reese shook her head around. She thought of that scoundrel again!
She did not know exactly what happened after that, but she was sure that Mr. Gates and Julie shared a secret.
After returning, Reese quickly finished up her artwork and waited to submit it after class.
She kept an eye on the door, waiting for Mr. Gates’ return.
The front door finally opened and attracted the attention of many, who watched nosily as the two of them entered, one behind the other.
Mr. Gates had his usual look—expressionless. On the other hand, Julie was too much of a rookie—she glowed with happiness, and the way she was trying to keep the corners of her mouth from curling upwards indicated that Mr. Gates had probably promised her something. There were surveillance cameras outside, so anything that happened would only have been verbal. It was impossible for anything else to have happened blatantly under surveillance.
Reese did not want to care about whatever was going on between those two. Whatever their relationship was, it had nothing to do with her. As long as it did not affect the grades she received, all Reese cared about at this moment was submitting her own piece of work.
“Excellent. Your work this time is outstanding. You will get the highest grade.”
Hearing the teacher honor their agreement, Reese was very satisfied. She smiled and replied, “Thank you, Mr. Gates.”
He seemed to have thought of something while looking at her chubby cheeks as he smiled slightly and replied to her politely, “You deserve the grade. Oh, and the wisteria I let you borrow earlier is yours now. I hope you have a great day.”
Reese smiled and nodded then left, but she did not expect all the werebeasts behind her who had heard everything to gasp.
Something seemed amiss by the way everyone was looking at her. This flower must mean something more!
She could almost say with certainty.
But what did it mean? How would that Julie Smith react?
Reese did not know. She could only make countless guesses in her heart, so much that she did not even pay attention to the taste of her dinner.
On the other hand, Mr. Gates had actually acted pretty normal—he had always been a gentleman. But just what did he mean by giving her the flower? Even though it was just a fake stalk of a real flower, it probably wasn’t a simple gesture.
Furthermore, he and Julie behaved like they had a little something going on. Even if the other werebeasts had not noticed anything when the two of them were coming in, Reese had already noticed that there was something unusual between them.
Also, the look in Julie’s eyes after the evaluation—a slightly air-headed werebeast like her wouldn’t have had such a contemptuous gaze. She probably knew something.
Reese was getting increasingly worried for herself. She didn’t know what to do, and she had no one to consult with. It had been a long time since she had last seen the old Grandpa Merce, and she wasn’t familiar with anyone else.
The only other person she was familiar with here was King.
Strangely, the moment that Reese was looking forward to the most, was the ward rounds tonight.
She waited for that werebeast’s punctual arrival for she had too many questions to ask him!
