Chapter 29: The Plan
Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios
Reese had just been dealt a low blow, so naturally, she could not lose out. “What a coincidence? I know you too—the dog that followed Julie Smith around!”
The werebeast was agitated. Although she was in fact from the dog tribe, she actually disliked her own species very much. “What dog!”
“Dog tribe.”
With a slow, relaxed tone, Reese continued saying, “Relax, I know your name is Keri, but I am not friends with you at all. I’l do my share. I don’t need you to ‘favor me.”
The tension between them was palpable. It was unclear what the other human was thinking as she had her head lowered, but Reese could no longer care about her opinion at this juncture.
“Of course, I’l take care of you, my good friend.” Keri was so incensed that she had to grit her teeth through each word, “I just want to arrange a more relaxing task for you.”
With one hand, she dragged Reese to one end of the corridor. “This is your task today—not a lot. All the best with it.”
Reese saw her chore—two toilets.
Actually, when she heard that they would be doing this cleaning activity, she was already mentally prepared to be more or less ostracized, since she was a newcomer. However, she did not expect to cross paths with a foe so quickly, and now she even had to clean both toilets.
Keri’s hand had been gripping Reese’s arm tightly, exerting quite a bit of strength. In the span of just a few words, Reese felt like her arm was already turning purplish-blue and was about to swell up.
She thought that if she did not agree soon, she might risk having a broken arm, so she could only concede for the time being. “Alright, I will complete my task for today. I hope that in the future, you will be able to bear the consequences of your actions today as well.”
Reese was betting that this werebeast named Keri did not actually have the authority to command others. It was just her luck that she had crossed paths with this lackey of Julie’s and now had to suffer some petty revenge.
“Tm just giving you an easier task because you and Julie were so close, and yet you aren’t feeling grateful?” With that, she let go of Reese’s arm and walked away in concealed guilt.
Reese saw that Keri had backed down a little and decided to take the win. Otherwise, if she pushed her over the edge, it might be the end for her and the other human if they were silenced since there was no one else here.
Hence, Reese had no choice but to accept the compromise and the task that Keri had assigned to her. As such, she would have to clean the toilets today.
Keri disappeared in the blink of an eye and probably went somewhere to slack off. Reese had no choice but to enter the site of her task—the toilet.
However, before she even started cleaning, she sensed that something was amiss here. Someone was behind the door!
Reese was a very wary person. Although she would not dare to fight head-on with someone who was clearly stronger, she would avoid any risks that she could beforehand.
So she mimicked the actions and sounds of walking in to trick whoever was hiding inside, not even knowing if it was a human or werebeast.
Those on the other side of the door were also trying to gauge Reese’s movements. When they felt like the time was right for them to grab her, they nodded to each other and pushed the door together, charging towards where they thought Reese was.
But Reese was not there at all. The two of them had pounced onto thin air and fell to the ground.
Instead, she had been hiding behind the door. She sprinkled some of the medicinal powder she had specially brought out for self-protection today on them. This powder was colorless and odorless, She had stolen it while King had been handling the werecrocodiles the last time, and it proved to be a
real-life saver this time.
The two creatures lying on the floor obviously looked like werebeasts. Their faces jutted outwards, plus they had grayish skin and whiskers. With just one look, Reese was certain that these two were definitely of the rat species.
The two of them spoke to each other in the language of their own species as they lay on the ground. Reese could not understand anything they were saying; she merely felt that they were being very noisy, but she did not need to understand the language to know that they were probably scolding and
cursing her.
She waited for the drug powder to take effect. Meanwhile, Keri was hiding in the corridor, and she was excited.
This ‘welcome gift’ had actually been planned long ago. Julie Smith had long known the arrangement for this building to be cleaned, so she looked for some muscle and arranged a big show.
First, Reese would be seen being assigned less work. This would make the other human jealous, creating a divide between them. Then, when no one else was around, Reese would be made to clean the toilets, and she would be humiliated. Finally, it was arranged such that the disgusting wererats would be
hiding in the toilets, preparing to defile Reese.
This series of events had been prepared long ago by their group, and they had been waiting for this day. But they had not expected Julie’s death to come so suddenly.
Hence, a few of the lackeys had a discussion. Since Planet Evermore would not spend its resources to help them out of this place, they might as well make good use of the remaining resources they had here to take revenge on those who did not agree with them. They took this as a way to seek a kind of
justice for their own lives.
Therefore, the plan that had been set for today proceeded. However, when Keri was assigning the tasks earlier, her plan had only succeeded partially.
Although she did ask Reese to clean the toilets, she had acted a little guilty.
But these hiccups were not that important since Reese would now get to enjoy everything that they had prepared!
