Chapter 380: Chapter 373: God-like Son
Meanwhile, everyone inside the cafeteria was shocked by the scene, especially the mention of a “daughter-in-law”.
What happened? Was there now a daughter-in-law at the university? When did they get married? Surely, it wasn’t a case of a child bride!?
Tang Yuxin was so disturbed by the commotion that she couldn’t focus on her reading or eating. She picked up her lunch box, planning to find another place to eat. She might not be able to stand up to them, but she could at least avoid them.
“You, stop right there!” Mrs. Zhang had always acted arrogant in their presence, not caring about others’ feelings. Now that she was old and had a good son, she had become even more domineering, unable to tolerate anyone not paying her the attention she demanded. Especially, her future daughter-in-law, who was currently not giving her any respect. Was she planning to climb over her head in the future?
She immediately rushed over and knocked the lunchbox out of Tang Yuxin’s hands, causing the food to scatter all over the floor.
Tang Yuxin stared coldly at her. The sudden display of coldness caught Mrs. Zhang off guard, and she couldn’t help but lash out, slapping Tang Yuxin.
“You little wretch! How did my son ever fall for someone like you? All you do is eat and give nothing in return. How will you ever respect your in-laws in the future?”
Tang Yuxin lowered her head, looking at her lunchbox and the scattered food on the floor.
But no one noticed the eerily mischievous smile that was forming on her lips…
Soon after, in the principal’s office of Qing University, Tang Yuxin sat quietly with a swollen face, while the anxious parents of the Zhang Family stood off to the side.
“Principal, I want to press charges,” Tang Yuxin said calmly, “I want to accuse them of intentional injury.”
“How dare you!” Mrs. Zhang jumped up, splattering the principal with bits of spit. The principal wiped his face, looking distinctly displeased. Nothing like this had happened at the university since its establishment.
Who had ever heard of parents coming into the school and beating up students? Did the students here still have a guarantee of safety? It was just physical assault now, but what if it escalated to murder in the future?
As soon as Dean Tao returned and heard one of his star students had been beaten, he fumed. Seeing Tang Yuxin’s swollen face, he was filled with rage, almost literally bursting with anger.
“What happened here?” He asked the principal. This was one of his top students who had made him so proud in Beijing…
The principal still looked confused, “I don’t know… they…” The principal gestured towards the Zhang parents, “they were the ones who beat her.”
“Why did you hit my student?” Dean Tao was always protective of his charges. He only had five students and hadn’t planned on taking any more. His students had always been unrivaled at Qing University. Although Tang Yuxin was the youngest, she was also the one he valued most. She had even been praised by higher authorities, but because she was a student, to not interfere with her studies, it was not made public.
So how did his brilliant student end up being beaten out of the blue at her own school?
“Hit her, huh?” Mrs. Zhang turned away, snorting, “She only cares about eating and doesn’t care about her in-laws. Isn’t such a person supposed to be beaten?”
Tang Yuxin rolled her eyes.
“If my dad knew that I was fooling around with boyfriends at school, he would definitely break my legs.”
She said calmly. The implicit message couldn’t be clearer. She didn’t even have a boyfriend. How could she possibly have in-laws?
Mrs. Zhang immediately jumped up, her eyes almost popping out, “Yong’an said you were the one chasing him. You two have been together for the past few months, even living together. As a girl…” She sneered contemptuously, suggesting by implication that Tang Yuxin had already been slept with.
“Nonsense!” Dean Tao slammed the table, “My student has been risking her life to save SARS patients these past few months. She has saved many lives and you dare to slander her here?”
“Call the police, call the police.”
Dean Tao immediately picked up the phone to call the police. He wouldn’t allow people to sling mud at his students. They were doctors who saved lives and healed the wounded. Despite risking their own lives to save others, were they still subjected to such insults?
The principal didn’t stop him, reasoning that the best way to deal with a shrew like Mrs. Zhang was to call the police.
Hearing that the police were being called, Mr. and Mrs. Zhang were anxious and scared.
But then they remembered, they weren’t wrong to hit their daughter-in-law. The law can’t intervene in family affairs, what can the police do? So both of them continued to roll their eyes at the ceiling as if they didn’t care.
Not long after, the police arrived. After the principal explained the situation, Tang Yuxin cooperated fully. She claimed that she didn’t even know these two people and they had just started shouting and hitting her as soon as they arrived. She had to move three times because of them, which many people in the school cafeteria witnessed. If necessary, there were also CCTV recordings in the cafeteria, which could serve as evidence.
“You keep saying she’s your daughter-in-law?” The police officer looked at Mr. and Mrs. Zhang, “So who is your son?” It was clear that the officer didn’t believe the Zhangs. Mainly because Tang Yuxin was extremely good looking and dressed well, indicating a privileged background. Despite her demeanor of modesty, it was evident she came from a wealthy family and was a top student at Qing University Medical Department. But in contrast, the Zhang parents were obviously from an ordinary family background, and judging from their behavior, no decent girl would choose to have anything to do with them.
Unless of course, their son was quite impressive, with looks like Pan An and a charming personality.
“My son…well, I don’t want to brag…” Mrs. Zhang beamed with pride whenever she mentioned her son, as if he was a god-like figure.
“My son is very handsome. When he was born, he was the best looking baby in the whole hospital. Since elementary school, he has excelled in his studies. He even got into Qing University.”
As she boasted about her son, Dean Tao and the principal gave each other speechless looks.
Even the principal was startled, “Are you joking? Why don’t I know about such an extraordinary student at our school?”
“Let’s get to the point,” the police officer cut in. He needed facts, not hearsay.
