Back to her room? This wasn’t her house. Did she have a room?
An Ran walked to the sofa. “I’ll wait for him here.”
“Okay. Miss An, would you like water or a drink?” Sister Rong asked politely.
“Water.”
The question and answer session was a bit distant, so staying in the living room was correct. This wasn’t her home. She couldn’t be as casual as the owner.
An Ran sat there, hugging her backpack. Soon, a little girl dressed in a black and white dress came to give her a glass of water. She’d never seen her before. She was probably the new maid.
It was a bit hot and An Ran was thirsty. She drank half the cup in one gulp. After finishing, she thought that she should’ve left some. She still wanted to drink water.
There was no one in the living room. It was like everyone had disappeared.
She remembered that there was a water dispenser in the dining room, so she stood up to go get some water. When she came back, Ye Chengwei was sitting where she’d sat.
He held a glass of red wine elegantly and had his leg propped up. His arm rested casually on the sofa. His posture was lazy yet noble. He looked like the lazy yet cold main character of a comic as he gazed coolly at her.
An Ran had poured too much water. When Ye Chengwei appeared without warning, she panicked and water spilled out. She gasped softly and her face heated up.
Elegant and embarrassed—they stood in stark contrast.
She steadied her cup and walked over slowly. She sat beside him on the sofa and drank her water quietly.
Ye Chengwei kept looking at her until she drank all the water. Then he asked in a low voice, “Did you take care of everything?”
An Ran looked up in confusion. “What?”
“Your grandmother’s funeral.”
“How did you know?” An Ran asked in surprise. She didn’t remember telling him about her grandmother.
This question seemed to have insulted Ye Chengwei’s IQ and he smirked. It was easy for him to find out about her life.
Thinking of her grandmother, An Ran’s heart suddenly hurt. That money still came too late. Her grandmother couldn’t wait for it. Perhaps she knew that her granddaughter had gotten that money by selling herself, so she didn’t want to wait for it.
Her eyes moistened. An Ran hurriedly held a hand to her nose to stop her tears.
Ye Chengwei’s expression was indifferent, but he reached over and grabbed An Ran’s hand. He pulled lightly and she fell into his arms.
He didn’t say anything, just holding her softly. The tears that had been suppressed suddenly flooded out with comfort.
Ye Chengwei didn’t move, letting her wet his expensive shirt with her tears.
His embrace was indescribably sweet and heartwarming. It quickly stopped An Ran’s sadness. But this kind of warmth made one greedy. She wanted to stay in his arms forever and never leave.
But… This wasn’t her warmth. No matter how comforting, she couldn’t desire it.
An Ran sat up straight and smiled at Ye Chengwei. “Thank you.”
“Actually…” Ye Chengwei said coolly. “I don’t like seeing girls cry.”
He had never comforted anyone before. Nor had he ever had to comfort anyone.
An Ran blanched. She didn’t think she’d get this cold treatment after the warmth, but her mind also cleared. She was only a lover to repay her debt. She didn’t have the right to want everything.
“Yes,” An Ran answered softly. Then she asked, “Why did you summon me here today?”
Ye Chengwei rested his chin and stared at her. Could he say that he missed the serenity that she provided?
