Chapter 17: Poison
Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios
Gao Chao eyed Chen’an with suspicion, searching his face for lies.
At that moment, Jiang Min dragged Gao Tianjie over to the sandpit. When she saw Chen’an, she said in surprise, “I didn’t know you were a jumper too.”
Her remark made Gao Chao’s eyes light up; Chen’an must have been telling the truth when he said he was a poor jumper. “Why don’t you give me a sense of your abilities first?” he asked coolly. “I can give you tips on what you need to improve.”
Playing the part of the hero–especially in front of pretty girls–was a favorite pastime of his.
[Athlete Gao Chao is feeling smug. In this state, his offensive abilities have increased, and his defensive abilities have decreased.]
Chen’an hadn’t expected that, but he chose to greet Jiang Min with a smile.
“Gao Chao is the best jumper in school. I thought I could learn a few tricks from him.”
[Athlete Gao Chao’s smugness has hardened into resolve. His offensive abilities have increased substantially, and his defensive abilities have decreased greatly.]
Chen’an glanced at Gao Chao, wondering if he was a berserker, being so easily roused to action.
Not that he was complaining. Lowered defenses just meant the damage would hit harder.
“I believe in you, Chen’an,” Jiang Min said encouragingly, never once looking at Gao Chao.
Gao Tianjie echoed, “You can do it!”
[Their comments are like poison to Athlete Gao Chao. His current Lifeblood: -5, -5, -5]
A spark lit up Chen’an’s eyes. Gao Chao’s healthbar hadn’t been at its maximum to begin with; now it had fallen to less than half, with only 45 drops of Lifeblood left. He silently thanked the two girls for their timely arrival as he prepared for the long jump.
Meanwhile, Jiang Min got the crowd to spread out and make room for him. Gao Chao moved with them, with all the liveliness of a walking corpse.
Chen’an launched himself into a 100m sprint. The crowd gasped as they felt a gust of wind blow past them. In the next instant, Chen’an was sailing over the sandpit.
He landed with a thud, his toes grazing the edge of the pit.
Everyone gaped–then exploded into an uproar.
“I’ve never seen anyone jump from one end of the sandpit to another without even using the springboard!”
“He said he was a lousy jumper, but I thought he’d at least know the rules of long jump.”
“Who cares? Look at the length of that pit!”
“It must be at least 7m!”
“Gao Chao’s record is only 6.5m, right?”
“You’re blind. Chen’an’s still one footstep away from the end of the pit. He didn’t beat Gao Chao,” one of the sports student’s fans piped up in his defense.
“Big deal,” someone jeered. “Three of your footsteps might not be worth 50cm.”
The student stood, stunned, before lunging at the other boy in rage and humiliation. The crowd ignored them as they broke out into a tussle. They were too focused on Chen’an, who had stepped out of the sandpit, cursing the sand in his shoes.
“Isn’t this pit a little short? I nearly landed on the track.”

The monster icon over Gao Chao’s head faded, and Chen’an turned his attention away from his latest victim.
He was just leaving to search for more targets when a girl rushed up to him, her cheeks pink.
“Hello! My name is Zhen Dani. I’m a senior from Class 12. Everyone calls me ‘Salamander’. Can you let me watch every time you jump in the future?”
Zhen Dani was pretty, but a glance at the monster icon above her head was all it took to remind Chen’an that it would be a waste not to kill her.
“Hi there.” Chen’an smiled. “My name is Chu Huangzhen. Everyone calls me ‘know-it-all’.”
Zhen Dani stared at him and asked in confusion, “Isn’t your name Chen’an?”
“Oh, you know my name. That’s alright, then.” Chen’an waved a hand dismissively.
[Your dismissive attitude has made Cheerleader Zhen Dani doubt her ability to win over athletes. Her current Lifeblood: -25.]

Chen’an froze. She died so easily?
She had been the easiest monster to defeat on the entire field; even a hundred of her wouldn’t cause him to break a sweat.
Chen’an looked past Zhen Dani to the other Cheerleaders standing nearby. They must have thought he and Zhen Dani had come to an agreement, because they shrieked his name one by one. He waved back in response, riling them up even more. If there weren’t so many people present, they would have swarmed Chen’an immediately.
Just as they were about to explode from excitement, Chen’an shouted, “Lu Gang, over here!”
The Cheerleaders stopped screaming abruptly.
[You ignored Li Dandan’s screams and made her doubt her ability to win over athletes. Her current Lifeblood: -25]
[You ignored the group of Cheerleaders…]
Confusion filled the Cheerleaders as they turned around and saw Lu Gang.
[Cheerleader Li Dandan’s confidence has suffered a double blow. Her current Lifeblood: -45]
Notifications flooded in, informing him of the damage that had been dealt to the horde of Cheerleaders.

As expected, killing these monsters was truly gratifying!
