Chapter 24: General Invites You to Eat
The carriage’s curtain was lifted, revealing that the person inside was none other than Cheng Yifei himself!
Had Gu Feiyan not seen him in such a critical state before she would not have known that he had just returned from hell’s gate two or three days ago.
It was truly a handsome face, with slanted eyebrows and starry eyes. Compared to a few days ago, it was even more gentle and sickly, filled with a tenacity that couldn’t be ignored.
Gu Feiyan was very sure that this guy had not recovered yet. But no matter how you looked at it, he was more energetic than the average person.
If Old General Chen hadn’t died in battle three years ago, Cheng Yifei would still be a young general today. He was only three years older than Qi Yu. However, if QiYu wanted to stand next to him, he would need to lower his aura first!
Cheng Yifei was staring at the main door of the house and didn’t notice Gu Feiyan. As the carriage slowly stopped, Gu Feiyan’s heart skipped a beat and she immediately turned around and left.
When it rains, it pours. How could she not escape?
Unfortunately, before even taking a few steps, an arrow whizzed past her ear, landing on the ground in front of her. “Little medicine girl, this general is already at your doorstep and you still turn around and leave?” Was this General angry? “Hahaha!”
That’s not right. How did he recognize her? Could it be that he wasn’t really unconscious while he was sick?
Cheng Yifei’s laughter made it hard for others to tell if he was actually angry or just joking. However, Gu Feiyan was very aware that the arrow had not been a joke.
She touched her ears and composed herself before turning around.
Cheng Yifei had already left the carriage. He wore a silvery-white armor with a large, blood-red cloak with white fox fur on the edges. Tall and sturdy, he would be the center of attention at any moment.
He had the toughness, but not the righteousness of a soldier. As he walked step by step towards Gu Feiyan, the corners of his mouth lifted into a faint evil smile.
Unexpectedly, Cheng Yifei stopped in front of her with a chuckle. “Little medicine girl, you saved this general’s life, so what do you want? Hurry up and say it!”
Uh…
Could it be that he came just to thank her and not to find fault with her? Impossible! Even if he did not care about her status as the Qi family’s future wife nor about the rumor that slandered him for being lecherous, he would not have come over so hastily!
No matter how she thought about it, something didn’t seem right. Meanwhile, Cheng Yifei waited with great interest as if he was very patient.
In the end, Gu Feiyan smiled and said: “General, you’re too serious. I just did my job, that’s all. I don’t want any rewards. I need to return to the palace immediately. Please forgive me for being unable to entertain you. I… You’re going first?”
Cheng Yifei did not say anything, but the smile on his face became more playful.
Gu Feiyan acted as if he had tacitly agreed. She quickly turned around, but before she could leave, Cheng Yifei was already blocking her way.
Gu Feiyan was embarrassed, not daring to look him in the eye. Cheng Yifei took out a prescription and held it in front of her eyes. “Little medicine girl, do you remember this prescription?”
Gu Feiyan was slightly surprised. Wasn’t this the forged prescription that she secretly placed inside Imperial Physician Su’s medicine box?
Someone saw her put it there?
Even if Imperial Physician Su found something strange, he wouldn’t have suspected her so quickly. There were quite a few maids to help concoct the medicine!
Forging a prescription was a very complicated matter,. It involved a lot of people, and the real culprit was most likely a powerful figure. She wasn’t stupid, merely wanted to play dirty. She didn’t want to publicly interfere in this matter and create trouble for herself!
Gu Feiyan pretended to be serious. She looked at the prescription for a long time before replying: “I… I’ve taken too many prescriptions. I can’t remember them at the moment.”
Cheng Yifei bent down and brought the prescription closer, allowing Gu Feiyan to see it more clearly.
Before Gu Feiyan’s brain could come up with a countermeasure, her stomach was already growling unhappily. She wanted to ignore it, but Cheng Yifei also heard it.
He was startled, then laughed and asked: “Hungry so early? Didn’t you eat lunch?”
Not only did she not eat this afternoon, she hadn’t eaten since last night!
Before Gu Feiyan could say anything, Cheng Yifei quickly put away the prescription, saying: “Let’s go, this general will treat you to a meal!”
She knows there is no such thing as a free lunch. However, her stomach was betraying her with its incessant rumbling. Cheng Yifei’s gaze fell on her stomach, causing her ears to redden from embarrassment.
“Let’s go!”
Cheng Yifei laughed and turned to leave, but seeing that Gu Feiyan was still standing there he turned back and asked: “This general wants to treat you to a meal, not to eat you. What are you afraid of? A guilty conscience?”
“No!”
Gu Feiyan immediately denied it. She did not feel guilty at all. If he wanted to treat her to a meal for some reason, then so be it! Only after eating her fill will she have the strength to continue playing dumb! She turned around and said: “Then I will respectfully accept rather than courteously decline!”
Gu Feiyan got into Cheng Yifei’s carriage at the entrance. She thought that Cheng Yifei would take her to a place with few people. After all, her identity was special, so he should avoid her. Who would have thought that this fellow would choose the busiest street in Sun City?
By the time she realized something was wrong, she couldn’t exit the carriage anymore. Seeing the change in her expression, Cheng Yifei smiled and said: “Let’s go to Fortune Tower. The dishes there are good.”
Fortune Tower?
It was the most bustling restaurant in Sun City. Whether commoners or nobles, everyone liked to go there. It was rumored that Prince Jun especially liked their dishes and almost invited the chef to his mansion.
What in the world is this fellow trying to do with such a high profile location?
A group of cavalrymen escorting a carriage through the streets, that is blatantly seeking publicity.
With a wave of his hand, the carriage stopped in front of the Fortune Tower’s entrance. Without a doubt, Cheng Yifei’s carriage had been recognized. There seemed to be a lot of people watching outside, and one could even hear a woman’s excited cries.
Cheng Yifei’s admirers outside the palace were no less obsessed and crazy than Wen Yurou!
Gu Feiyan’s brows furrowed, she was very sure that if she were to disembark from Cheng Yifei’s carriage in front of everyone’s eyes, her previous efforts to counterattack Wen Yurou would have been in vain, and the rumors would become even crazier!
It was very lively outside, but the inside the carriage was very quiet.
Cheng Yifei obviously didn’t have any plans to leave the carriage. He took out the prescription and handed it to Gu Feiyan with a smile. “Tell this general, do you recognize this prescription? Perhaps this general will consider going to a different place to eat. After all, it’s still early.”
So that’s how it was!
This fellow didn’t want to treat her to a meal, but to use such method to threaten her!
Gu Feiyan covertly lifted the window curtain, seeing that it was really lively outside. There was already a circle of people surrounding them.
Cheng Yifei looked out the window as he spoke: “Little girl, tell this general. Why did you intentionally leave the prescription in Imperial Physician Su’s medical box? What did you want to remind Imperial Physician Su about?”
Gu Feiyan had an innocent look on her face. “General Cheng, what are you talking about?”
Cheng Yifei’s voice suddenly became cold. “Did you really think that this general was unconscious on that day? I saw you secretly place this prescription with my own eyes!”
What?
That day, Gu Feiyan’s innocent expression froze…
