Chapter 27: He Can’t Make It
It isn’t easy to meet Prince Jun.
Many speak of rumors that His Highness Prince Jun was highly fond of the dishes in the Fortune Tower. He’d often bid his time there, but there were few who recognized him.
Cheng Yifei had not seen this prince for almost three months. Seeing him again was pleasantly surprising. In the entire Sky Flame Nation, the only person he ever truly revered was His Highness, Prince Jing.
As he was about to put Gu Feiyan down and pay his respects, Prince Jun gave him a meaningful glance. He then suddenly remembered there were many people around. His Highness, Prince Jun had no thoughts of revealing his identity. He looked all around and chuckled to himself lowly. If he and Gu Feiyan had not stole the limelight, Prince Jun’s noble demeanor would have attracted the attention of the masses simply by standing casually in the crowd.
Unable to give a formal bow, Cheng Yifei used his hands secretly to replace his feet and made a kneeling gesture.
Jun Jiuchen paid him no attention. As he walked past Cheng Yifei, he looked at Gu Feiyan, who was being carried on his back. For odd inexplicable reasons, Cheng Yifei felt guilty. Though Jun Jiuchen glanced a look at Gu Feiyan, he did not walking, like nothing had happened. He casually walked past Cheng Yifei and climbed the stairs. No one could see what he was doing.
Cheng Yifei did not dare look back under the watchful eyes eyes of the crowd, but Jun Jiuchen did, his eyes still locked on Gu Feiyan. It’s a pity she had no clue of what was happening. She thought that Cheng Yifei stopped for the sole reason of doing something excessive in public to threaten her.
Cheng Yifei stood still on the floor for a short while before continuing to walk out the door. Gu Feiyan secretly let out a sight of relief.
When Gu Feiyan heard this, she suddenly realized why Cheng Yifei had suddenly stopped and stood still for so long. So it turns out that the prince had come! What a coincidence…
Gu Feiyan subconsciously raised her head and looked at the door, but she did not see Prince Jun’s carriage. Instead, she only saw a crowd of spectators. She hurriedly lowered her head. She thought that even if His Highness, Prince Jun did not reveal his identity, she’d not be able to recognize him. This was the second time they met by chance, and unfortunately, she still could not recognize the face of the legendary prince.
Cheng Yifei did not pay attention to Deputy General Zhou. He strode forwards to the carriage and threw Gu Feiyan into it. He then boarded the carriage and returned to the military camp.
As the carriage drove away, the liveliness at the Fortune Tower still lingered. Since the opening of the Fortune Tower, the place had never been so lively before. Sounds of discussions echoed all throughout.
At this time, Jun Jiuchen had already arrived at the private room on the second floor. He opened the window and looked outside, watching the back of Cheng Yifei’s carriage disappear into the horizon. His gaze was cold and profound as he watched the carriage gradually grow further away into the distance, making it impossible to guess and understand his thinking. Even after the carriage disappeared, his eyes still lingered into the horizon. It was unknown whether he was deep in thought or was in a simple daze.
“Your Highness, everything has been investigated. The ten day holiday leave for Gu Feiyan was requested by the Eldest Miss of General Qi’s mansion, Qi Fufang. Last night, the Qi Clan had failed to break off the engagement. Their visit last night should have been to force Miss Gu to agree to break off the engagement, but resulted in failure. From the investigation conducted by this subordinate in the past few days, it seems the Qi Clan is not in the least bit suspicious. As for Gu Feiyan, this girl, we’re a bit full of doubts.
Jun Jiuchen closed the window and turned around. “What do you mean?”
“This subordinate has only investigated her background. In the past two days, I have also investigated her performance at the Imperial Pharmacy. Her medical skills have always been mediocre and she’s suffered quite a bit at the Imperial Pharmacy, but that night, her temper and ability changed.”
As Mang Zhong spoke, he grew more and more puzzled. “Your Highness, this girl can’t be an impostor, right? Or had she been bribed? Could it be that there is someone like us who knows that the prescription is deceptive and decided to save the situation?”
Jun Jiuchen pondered over the matter, but he failed to come to a conclusion. That day, he had personally intercepted Gu Feiyan and sent someone to prepare and deliver medicine. Unfortunately, Gu Feiyan made a move first.
“Your Highness, General Cheng’s conduct is too high-profile and unreliable! He still hasn’t found anything about Old Eunuch Wu. How about we…”
“For Eunuch Wu’s side, let Xiaoman follow closely. You don’t have to worry about Gu Feiyan.” Before Mang Zhong could finish his sentence, Jun Jiuchen interrupted him, his voice cold.
Although General Cheng’s murder attempt was a major event, it wasn’t as if His Highness was personally watching over him. The Emperor’s illness was getting worse, and the crown prince was too young, so His Highness had to help the crown prince solve many problems. There were still matters of his own. Where in the world did he get the free time to keep watch on someone?
Mang Zhong quickly persuaded. “Your Highness, there is Xiaoman keeping watch on Eunuch Wu. The evidence is almost gathered. If you hand Gu Feiyan to this subordinate, I will handle it.”
“Even Cheng Yifei can’t handle her. Can you handle her?” Jun Jiuchen asked.
Uh…
Mang Zhong did not know what to say. His Highness had just decided that Cheng Yifei could not handle that girl, Gu Feiyan, which was too arbitrary. He did not know whether to say that His Highness overestimated Gu Feiyan or underestimated Cheng Yifei. He really wanted to ask, “Who can make such a decision?” But he did not dare to.
Jun Jiuchen sat down and began to eat quietly. He was wearing a white robe today which made him look less domineering. Even when he ate, it gave people a feeling like he was an otherworldly existence. He was not an immortal, but he was cold to the extreme!
After dinner, Jun Jiuchen left the city and headed towards the east military camp.
In less than half a day, everyone in the capital knew what had happened in Fortune Tower. No matter how many rumors were spread, there were two things that were indisputable. The first was that Cheng Yifei had carried Gu Feiyan into Fortune Tower, and the second was that Cheng Yifei had carried her out of Fortune Tower and returned to the military camp.
There was no need to talk about the reactions of the two elders from the Gu Family. The entire Qi Clan was boiling all over!
General Qi and Madam Xu were extremely angry, especially after hearing that Qi Yu had gone to cancel the engagement that night and had been threatened with abuse by Gu Feiyan. They could not bear it any longer.
General Qi was furious. “That little bastard Cheng Yifei is simply going too far! He had gone too far! No, this won’t do. This general will enter the palace now and let the Emperor judge the situation!”
Madam Xu hastened to persuade him. “General, you absolutely cannot! If this matter were to be reported to the Emperor, wouldn’t that mean… Cheng Yifei got what he wanted? Wouldn’t that be the same as admitting that brat Cheng Yifei put a green hat on our clan’s head?!”
“This green hat is already worn!”
General Qi could not calm down. Just as he was about to walk out the door, Qi Yu, who had been silent, suddenly rushed over and stopped him.
“Father, Father! Cheng Yifei is definitely doing it on purpose! He wants to make things even bigger! Once you enter the palace, your son will become a big joke!”
General Qi had always treasured this son of his, so he rarely spoke loudly to him. But this time, he almost shouted, “Do you know, it’s not your face that you lose, but something else! Something else!”
Qi Yu was confuse. What he cared about the most was keeping face. Aside from that, he really couldn’t think of anything else.
Something else?
What is it?
