Chapter 31: Stack of Prescriptions
Cheng Yifei sensed that something was wrong with Gu Feiyan and asked seriously, “What are you running for?”
“I thought there would be ephedra here. Let’s go and look elsewhere.”
She avoided Cheng Yifei’s eyes and turned back the way she came. Cheng Yifei did not pursue the matter seeing her anxious look.
However, not long later, Cheng Yifei suddenly shouted from behind her. “Someone… Someone..! Come here!”
Gu Feiyan was startled, thinking that Cheng Yifei had seen the assassin.
She turned around in a hurry, only to see him pointing in the direction of the steep slope as he shouted. She looked over and was shocked again!
There was actually ephedra here!
What a coincidence!
There were five or six plants on the steep slope, and not all of them had withered. At least two of them still could be used. As for the others, she should be able to pick out some of them.
Cheng Yifei was extremely happy as he asked, “Little medicine girl, how did you know there was ephedra here? I thought you were running around blindly! ”
Gu Feiyan was shocked! How could she know? She didn’t know anything at all!
The soldiers all rushed over when they heard the news. They were all overjoyed.
“Is it ephedra?”
“That’s great! There’s hope!”
“Fortunately, we believe in Medicine Girl Gu…”

The steep slope was too steep for the soldiers to stand on, so they had to hold hands one by one and go down. Cheng Yifei was especially excited and was the first to go down. He wanted to pick the ephedra personally, so he didn’t notice the change in Gu Feiyan’s expression.
As soon as he reached the ephedra, he shouted, “Little medicine girl, how to pick this? Speak!”
Only then did Gu Feiyan recover her wits, and she hurriedly said, “Cut off the stalks. Keep the roots. Be careful.”
The roots of ephedra are also effective. The stem of ephedra induce perspiration to dispel cold, opening lung to relieve asthma. The roots of ephedra mainly cure the body deficiency and night sweat. Ephedra roots will grow new stalks when the spring is warm. Gu Feiyan could tell that these ephedras were old plants and had probably been picked a few times by someone else.
Cheng Yifei did as he was told, but Gu Feiyan was still panicking. She thought as she watched.
Isn’t this too much of a coincidence?
Could it be that the masked assassin had intentionally lured her here? However, this was the location of a military camp, and that fellow was an assassin. How could he be familiar with this area? Besides, they had a grudge, and he wasn’t a good person. Why would he help her?
Gu Feiyan felt that she had thought too much!
After picking up the ephedra, Cheng Yifei let go of the soldier’s hand and flew up into the air. He landed in front of Gu Feiyan and handed the ephedra to her, continuing to ask her questions.
“Little medicine girl, how did you know there is ephedra here? We didn’t walk through this place last night, did we?”
Gu Feiyan did not dare to look at him in the eye, and blindly tried to find excuses to lie to him. She didn’t care about whether Cheng Yifei believed her or not; she only urged him to hurry down the mountain and save the patient.
Jun Jiuchen appeared on a small path after the large group of people had left. He seemed like a shadow, suddenly appearing out of thin air. It was quick and quiet, making it hard to tell where he came from.
He was naturally familiar with the eastern military camp. He was familiar not only with the eastern military camp, but also with the western military camp. These two armies were like the legs of Tianyan Kingdom. If he was not familiar with them, how could he make Tianyan Kingdom stand firm and go far?
Normally, if he wasn’t in the city, he would hide in the mountain forest near the military camp. He didn’t know much about medical practice or medicine, but he had a photographic memory for things related to medicine. He didn’t know if this was an ability he was born with, or if it was something he had learned when he was young. He couldn’t remember anything before he was fourteen.
When Gu Feiyan and the rest had left, Jun Jiuchen hadn’t left yet. He gently leaped up and sat on the huge tree trunk. He took a bunch of beads from his wrist and quietly played with them. There were a total of 108 beads. They were not ordinary sandalwood Buddhist prayer beads but were made with a type of extremely rare agarwood. He also didn’t remember how he got the Buddhist beads. He only remembered that it was very important to him.
Jun Jiuchen lowered his head and quietly played around with it, seemingly lost in thought. His cold and lonely figure silently merged with the mountain full of dead plants and rotten wood to form a picture. It was very lonely and desolate.
After a long time, a black shadow descended.
“Your Highness, we’ve gotten all the evidence regarding Eunuch Wu’s prescription. Imperial Physician Luo had found three reliable retired pharmacists, but had been unable to find any clues.”
“Who was the cause of all these prescriptions?”
“The handwriting of all the Imperial Physicians have already been compared, but none of them matched. It should be someone outside the palace. Both me and Imperial Physician Luo suspected that these prescriptions were secret letters concealing the culprit’s instructions to Eunuch Wu. I’m afraid that Eunuch Wu will need to be interrogated if we want to solve the problem.”
“Are you saying that Eunuch Wu’s master is not someone from the palace?”
Jun Jiuchen was surprised. He jumped down from the tree and took the stack of prescription. He flipped through a few pages and could roughly tell what kind of illness these prescriptions were for, but he could not figure out the mystery behind them.
Mang Zhong said in a low voice, “Your Highness, why don’t we do it? After interrogating Eunuch Wu, the truth will be revealed! It’s very dangerous to keep Eunuch Wu.”
Jun Jiuchen didn’t think much of it. It was still too early to capture Eunuch Wu. Even if he did, he might not be able to pry Eunuch Wu’s mouth open. He had a lot of patience and time to deal with enemies. Whether it was the inner or outer enemies of the palace, he had to take care of them all!
“No need. Don’t alert the snake.”
Jun Jiuchen went down the mountain and walked in another direction, different from the path that Gu Feiyan had taken.
Gu Feiyan and Cheng Yifei returned to the military camp at the fastest speed possible. At that moment, it was only two hours until noon. Xu Bin’s condition had worsened as predicted by the doctor.
His asthma attack used to happen once every half an hour, but now it happened once every quarter of an hour. The time gap was getting quicker. Acupuncture was ineffective. Doctor Guo was persisting with his acupuncture.
When Gu Feiyan had finished analyzing the situation, she made a prompt decision. She let the female servant quickly boil the “raw ephedra” and let Xu Bin take it first. As for the remaining ephedra, she was going to roast it with honey!
Not all medicinal herbs are suitable for direct use. Direct use is called “raw consumption,” and the medicinal herbs that have been processed are called “processed consumption.” There were many methods to concoct medicinal herbs. Honey roasting was one of them. It could increase the medicinal properties, help the use of medicinal effects, and improve the absorption of medicinal properties. There were also specific prescriptions that could be used to concoct medicinal ingredients.
Gu Feiyan was about to leave, but Doctor Guo couldn’t care less, and said thoughtfully, “Medicine Girl Gu, I was wrong! What this old man said just now was just sophistry. These medicines are not as good as all of them used raw. If the medicinal effects are sufficient, they might be able to drag on for a bit longer. If it’s roasted with honey, that would be too time-consuming!”
Gu Feiyan was comforted by Doctor Guo’s attitude.
She turned around and saw that Doctor Guo was not the only one looking at her. Everyone in the room, including the dying soldier, was also looking at her. It was not doubt in their eyes, but they were worried…
