Chapter 34: So Warm and Comfortable
Cheng Yifei was starting to become serious and impulsive.
He holds great military power as a general, however, it is not the most esteemed status in the country compared to those in royalty. He had to at least have a legitimate reason to oppose Princess Huaining so that he can protect Gu Feiyan!
Gu Feiyan looked at Cheng Yifei and discovered that when his resting rebellious face became sincere, it causes one’s heart to ache inexplicably. This guy is naturally cunning, yet, why does he act so foolishly all the time?
“Cheng Yifei, forget it,” Gu Feiyan whispered, “I admit that I found out that the prescription was fake. However, I did not mean to harm you, and I did not hide it from anyone with evil intentions. I had only found out that there was something wrong with the prescription after the test, so I had no choice but to change the prescription secretly. I don’t want to cause any trouble, and you wouldn’t want to alarm the snake so easily. ”
“As long as you admit to it!” Cheng Yifei immediately grabbed her hand and was about to argue with Eunuch Xue, but Gu Feiyan stopped him with her other hand.
“Cheng Yifei, with the two of us making such a ruckus, there is no way Qi Yu could marry Princess Huaining. As long as the Qi family is not royalty, your two families will always be evenly matched. This situation really suits in your favor, so don’t get yourself into trouble. In the name of the Cheng Army, against the justice courts and against the Tianyan’s laws, how do you expect the Emperor to see you? Do you truly want the Qi Family to seize upon your shortcoming? ”
Hearing this, Cheng Yifei finally calmed down. His handsome face, which had always been arrogant and wanton, was now taut with anger. His recent promise was still fresh in his ears, but there was nothing he could possibly do to prevent the doom the little medicine girl will soon face. This feeling of helplessness was the same as three years ago. He wanted to avenge his father, but there were a hundred and one thousand reasons why he wasn’t allowed to do so.
“Cheng Yifei. Since you had bought me a meal, I’ll tell you a secret.” Gu Feiyan whispered in his ear, “Eunuch Wu is an accomplice. You should investigate him.” After she finished speaking, she let go of Cheng Yifei’s hand and walked towards Eunuch Xue in large strides. “Take care, Cheng Yifei!”
In the end, Cheng Yifei could not stop Eunuch Xue. Clenching his fist, he followed them in silence all the way to the entrance of the military camp, watching the horse carriage disappearing into the distance. The soldiers in the army didn’t know what was going on, but when they saw his foul attitude, none of them dared to step forward to ask. The back of the carriage had disappeared, but Cheng Yifei was still standing …
Eunuch Xue rode a horse carriage by himself while Gu Feiyan rode alone. One was in front while the other one followed behind in the back, both guarded by tough bodyguards. The carriage jolted. It was only then that Gu Feiyan had realized that she had forgotten to take medicine for her fever. She knew that she would not have a chance to take medicine once she reached Princess Huaining’s place, and so, by knowing this, she defeatedly leaned against the side of the carriage and closed her eyes to rest. She silently prayed that her body would be able to make it and endure it. She also prayed for the little cauldron to recover quickly. Gradually, she became cold. She then curled up to find warmth, drowsy from the peaceful jolts of the carriage.
Suddenly, the carriage came to a halt as a guard shouted from outside, “There’s an assassin!”
Gu Feiyan woke up abruptly. Unlike last time, she was completely powerless and didn’t even have the strength to lift the curtains, let alone jump out of the car to escape. Hearing the fierce sound of weapons clashing against each other outside, she subconsciously held the small cauldron tightly. Even though she knew it was unlikely, she still tried her best to concentrate on summoning poison. Unfortunately, the more she tried to focus, the clearer the image of the masked assassin became in her mind. The sudden attack is most likely due to him! Even now, she still couldn’t understand why she didn’t call out to Cheng Yifei when she saw him on the mountain.
Suddenly, a sword stabbed forward right in front of Gu Feiyan, almost injuring her. Gu Feiyan was so scared that she forgot to dodge, but the sharp sword did not move forward any further. Instead, it swung from left to right, shattering the heavy curtain.
From within the flying pieces of silk, Gu Feiyan was able to recognize the pair of eyes that were as black as midnight. They were deep and ice-cold and could not be seen from a distance of a thousand miles. It really was him, the masked assassin. Behind him was a foregoing battle. This time he was not alone. He had brought a few masked helpers with him. With his abilities, he was more than enough to deal with these guards. Why did he bring so many helpers with him? Gu Feiyan had no time to think about so much and so it only left her startled from the peculiarity.
Jun Jiuchen’s eyes darkened. He ruthlessly swings his long sword, and in an instant, the horse was hacked into halves. The immense energy that flowed through his sword sent Gu Feiyan flying.
“Ah!” Gu Feiyan screamed, believing that she is about to be murdered, however, Jun Jiuchen’s figure suddenly flashed forward like a shadow. He wrapped his arms around her waist and carried her to the side. Before the guards could regain their wits, he had already captured her and was running towards the forest with light steps.
Is this … kidnapping? So he wasn’t here to kill her?
Gu Feiyan no longer had the consciousness to think and no longer had the strength to struggle. She could only allow Jun Jiuchen to hold her. She was originally hot all over, but after being blown by the icy cold mountain wind for quite some time, her entire body soon began to shiver. Gradually, her consciousness began to blur as she unconsciously hid in Jun Jiuchen’s embrace, hoping to absorb a little bit of warmth. She simply couldn’t care less about who he was.
Jun Jiuchen quickly discovered that something was wrong with Gu Feiyan. Last time, he had suffered greatly, and so this time, he was on guard. Gu Feiyan was not struggling, but rather she was weirdly embracing his back. This caused him to be more alert and wary.
After confirming that there were no more pursuers behind him, he immediately wanted to push Gu Feiyan away, but before he could do anything, Gu Feiyan had already wrapped her arms around his waist as if she was grabbing onto the last straw of hope. A trace of disgust flashed through Jun Jiuchen’s eyes. He didn’t hesitate to throw her away, causing Gu Feiyan to fall onto the ground and curl up into a circle. Her eyes were closed and her mind was somewhere between conscious and unconscious whilst her small hands instinctively held tightly onto the small medicine cauldron.
Jun Jiuchen noticed the suspicious movement of her hands and said coldly, “No need to pretend.” Other than trembling, Gu Feiyan did not respond. Jun Jiuchen then approached her with large strides, looking down at her from above. He lightly kicked her with his foot, however, Gu Feiyan remained indifferent.
Jun Jiuchen didn’t hold back any longer. He stepped on her wrist to guard against her attacks, bent down and grabbed the small cauldron. So far, Gu Feiyan still had no reaction. At this moment, Jun Jiuchen realized that there wasn’t any poison in the little cauldron. He then also realizes that this woman was not faking. She was dangerously sick. He lightly touched her forehead and felt her burning hot skin onto his palm. He hesitated for a long time, but he decided to lift her up and place her onto his shoulder. He then strode into the forest.
Gu Feiyan’s consciousness was originally in a whirl, but when her head hit the ground, she regained some of her senses. However, she was still completely unaware of her current situation and could only feel herself leaning against something warm. Her hands subconsciously reached out to touch Jun Jiuchen’s back. As soon as her fingertips touched his back, Jun Jiuchen, who was striding forward like a meteor, stopped abruptly in his tracks. A never before seen look of astonishment appeared in his eyes.
Gu Feiyan senselessly continued to touch him as her small hands traveled its way from his back all the way to the front, hugging him tightly. She was like a gentle little sloth, clinging to his back and greedily absorbing his temperature. She even muttered, “So warm, so comfortable…”
