Chapter 23 A Wolf In Front and a Tiger Behind
The cracked roads, the collapsed and broken street lights, the overturned and damaged vehicles, and the scattered dense debris. The publicity rack in the distance was hanging half-tilted and on the verge of collapse, as if it would fall completely in the next moment. The windows of most of the buildings built of reinforced concrete had shattered, and a large number of banknotes were even scattered at the entrance of a bank not far away.
Desolation, dilapidation, despair. There was also an aura of the end of the world, as if all living beings in the world had died.
Lu Ren only glanced around warily to make sure there were no monsters before walking against the wall.
As for Li Shu, Lu Ren did not pay much attention to her. As long as she hid well in this place, getting through seven days would not be too harsh.
Lu Ren only stopped in his tracks when he reached the entrance of a store which had a convenience-store sign. He had not made any sound throughout the entire process.
It was best to do everything in silence. Whether a strange sound had been suddenly produced in the surroundings or some situation had occurred, Lu Ren would be the first to sense it.
He carefully stepped over the glass fragments at the door and entered the store. What greeted Lu Ren’s eyes were collapsed shelves and all kinds of food and drinks scattered on the ground.
Lu Ren did not even take a look at all these. Needless to say, from the thickness of the dust accumulation in the convenience store, they had long passed the expiration date. The food and beverages had become spoiled and most of them had tears in their packaging. At a glance, many had traces of mold.
With just a quick look, Lu Ren placed his attention on those items which could be preserved for a long time.
It had to be known that in the real world, many canned foods made during World War II were still circulating in the market. The shelf life had even been stated as lasting two to three hundred years.
However, when Lu Ren went around, he found no traces of any canned food at all. And, there were many items missing from the mostly intact shelves against the wall.
Lu Ren raised his eyebrows. As usual, he had a guess.
It seemed that after the apocalypse, there were still traces of human activity.
This had somewhat shocked him. It seemed that this world was not as simple as he had imagined.
Humans were really tenacious.
Lu Ren sighed in his heart. After having confirmed that there were no useful supplies here, he left the convenience store.
However, just as he left the store, Lu Ren stopped in his tracks and looked solemnly at the middle of the street.
There was a greenish-gray bull standing there, but this bull was too strong and huge.
It was at least three and a half meters tall, or perhaps four meters. Its length, excluding its tail, was between seven to eight meters. Its muscles were bulging, and a section of its thick and long horns were glowing with a cold metallic luster. Its scarlet eyes suddenly turned around and stared fixedly at Lu Ren, who had come out of the convenience store.
This was completely a biological tank weighing tens of tons!
Without thinking, he turned around and rushed into the convenience store again. He searched around and found a door behind which led to the back alley of the building.
“Moo!!!”
A muffled but extremely loud cry sounded from the mouth of the strange bull. Ripples of air visible to the naked eye spread out under the effect of its powerful lungs.
Instantly, dust filled the sky. The roar sounded in the distance even 20 meters away. Lu Ren, who had rushed into the convenience store, felt his head go blank. Immediately after, the sudden ringing in his ears caused him to instantly lose his balance and fall to the ground. The human cochlea had received a violent stimulation. In a situation where one’s constitution was relatively weak, it could cause one to lose his balance.
His constitution was relatively weak…
Lu Ren cursed in his heart.
(Ding… As you have suffered a sound wave attack from the giant mutated bull, your Physical Constitution Proficiency Level has passively increased by 1.]
[Ding… As you have suffered a sound wave attack from the giant mutated bull. Your Physical Constitution Proficiency Level…..]
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
The heavy sound of running approached with the splashing of soil and stones. Lu Ren did not dare to delay at all. He struggled on the ground for a few seconds and finally stood up. He covered his ears and grabbed the back door of the convenience store.
Boom! Boom!
The loud collision caused the door of the convenience store to shatter. Two huge and thick bull horns sank deeply into the wall, drawing a terrifying deep mark.
The entire seven-story building shook violently from the tremendous impact.
Lu Ren endured the dizziness in his head, pulled open the door and ran out quickly to the back alley of the convenience store.
He staggered a few steps and held onto the wall beside him for support. He took several deep breaths before he gradually recovered. He turned around and looked at the gradually collapsing building. Lu Ren did not hesitate at all and quickly left the place.
He continued to sprint for about half an hour, till he entered the interior of a building that still looked intact. He stomped up to the third floor, and randomly broke open an office door before he heaved a sigh of relief.
Currently, fighting that strange bull was no different from courting death. Just one cry had caused him to lose his combat strength. If he were to suffer such a collision, he would probably instantly become a pool of mud.
Giant Mutated Bull.
Lu Ren cursed in his heart. He finally knew how the huge holes in the buildings in such a city had come about.
Just as he got up and was about to leave, his gaze suddenly froze. There was a sign standing at the door to the third floor.
Haizhou City Research Center Human Resource Department.
The corners of Lu Ren’s eyes twitched. Could this be the location of the newly discovered super particle, the Hua Particle?!
Lu Ren suddenly felt that the ground under his feet was a little hot.
Leaving this place quickly was the right thing to do. Only those brainless protagonists in movies would continue to explore.
Wasn’t it good to live circumspectly?
Lu Ren did not hesitate anymore and quickly went downstairs. He suddenly stopped in his tracks at the corner of the first floor, his expression extremely ugly.
It was not known when the Giant Mutated Bull had been pacing around the hall. Its pair of bull nostrils kept flaring as it sniffed the air.
Lu Ren did not hesitate at all. He turned around and flew upstairs. He rushed all the way to the edge of the second floor and jumped down directly from the window. From a height of five meters, with Lu Ren’s current physical fitness, he would be able to roll on the ground to offset the impact. “What the f*ck?!”
When Lu Ren, who was in mid-air, saw the scene below, he could not help but curse. The blindfolded monster was standing upright on the ground, holding a woman who looked powerless to resist in his arms. From the way she was dressed, she seemed to be a female high school student. She was about to be brought into the building.
Lu Ren rolled on the ground, and his movements did not slow down at all. He stood up and ran forward, wanting to quickly get away from the strange person dressed like a blind monk.
However, good things did not come easily. The ‘blind man’ was extremely sensitive to sounds. The moment he landed on the ground, he sensed the presence of Lu Ren. His originally calm and slow posture instantly tensed up, and he threw the listless girl to the side. Then, he turned around and charged at Lu Ren.
When the young girl saw the figure of Lu Ren jumping down from the second floor, her desperate gaze lit up. However, when she saw the back view of the ‘blind man’, the bright light dimmed.
