Chapter 32 Surveillance Center
Xiang Yang, who had jumped over the monster’s carcass, came to Lu Ren’s side. She pointed below the Gray-Scale Demon and said, “There are two wounds below!”
Lu Ren :”…”
Thirty seconds later, Xiang Yang stroked her disheveled short hair and muttered, “What’s going on? I only said a few words casually. Why must you be so fierce?!”
Lu Ren, who was behind her, was expressionless. He turned a deaf ear to Xiang Yang’s complaints and only paid attention to the surroundings warily. If it had not been for the fact that he really needed Xiang Yang here to lead the way, he would have either kept a respectful distance from such a fellow or killed her.
After they had walked past two office areas without any danger, the ground along the way was littered with documents, collapsed computers, overturned chairs, broken desks, and there was also the shocking dark brownish stains of blood that had long dried up everywhere. All these revealed that a major rampage had happened here.
It was not until the two of them came to the door of the surveillance center that Lu Ren looked at the flickering incandescent lights and the door at the end of the corridor.
Apart from their breathing, everything was very quiet.
“It looks like this had once been the territory occupied by that contaminated creature,” said Xiang Yang with certainty.
Lu Ren was a little surprised. “These monsters even know how to divide up territory?”
Xiang Yang nodded and came to the door of the surveillance center. She said, “When these contaminated creatures evolve to a certain stage, they would also fight for their territory like those wild beasts.”
Lu Ren’s mood was a little off.
“You said they could still evolve?”
“Yes, it’s true. Thirty years ago, before the official organization collapsed, it had issued a report. These contaminated creatures would determine the direction of their evolution according to the environment they lived in.”
Xiang Yang turned to look at Lu Ren. “Don’t worry, although in terms of speed, these monsters have indeed evolved much faster than humans, it has only been a span of decades. They couldn’t have evolved very much.”
After a pause, Xiang Yang took out a chip card, which had almost been polished white, from her pocket and swiped it at the electronic door lock of the surveillance center.
Beep! Beep!
An electronic sound could be heard, and the door to the surveillance center opened.
Xiang Yang said happily, “My father really didn’t lie to me. With his position at that time, the chip card that matched his position could allow him to pass through the entire base.”
Lu Ren said casually, “Haven’t you verified your authority as a super administrator through the mainframe computer just now?”
Xiang Yang: “… It has been so many years, and many of the facilities have been in disrepair. If the verification device for verifying fingerprints and irises is damaged, it would not be good to not use a more traditional method.”
Lu Ren paused for a moment and said casually, “Your dagger looks very sharp. Did you say it was called the UHF Cutting Blade?”
Xiang Yang’s little face was full of wariness, and her little hand subconsciously touched the hilt of her dagger.
“Don’t even have designs on it! To activate the ultra-high frequency oscillation mode will consume a lot of energy. The energy of this dagger can only last for less than a minute.”
Lu Ren curled his lips. “I don’t care for it.”
The technology of this mystic realm of ruins indeed surpassed that of the real world by 50 years. If it had not been destroyed by the mystic realm passageway, interstellar exploration would have probably begun by now.
What interested him the most was the energy storage technology of the dagger. If he could take it back, he would definitely be able to sell it for a good price. As for hiding it privately, Lu Ren did not think too much about it. Human energy was limited.
Thus, it was worth thinking about whether to take the path of a top science student or a big-muscled tyrant.
The two of them quickly entered the surveillance center. Lu Ren looked at the dark screen in the room and could not help but raise his eyebrows. “It looks like the surveillance center has stopped working.”
“Then start it up!”
Xiang Yang walked confidently to the console and then fell silent for a long time as she faced the buttons below.
Lu Ren was puzzled. “What’s wrong?”
Xiang Yang: “… I’m figuring out.” Lu Ren said with concern, “Why do you have to figure out? Do you not know how?”
Xiang Yang’s face turned red. “What… What do you mean by not knowing how? It’s definitely not that I don’t know. It has been so many years, and many traces have become blurry!”
Lu Ren walked forward and took a closer look. He shook his head slightly and said, “Alright, you study it first. I’ll take a rest.”
It had taken a lot of effort to fight with the Gray-Scale Demon earlier, and this had made him a little tired.
After confirming that the door to the surveillance center had been closed, Lu Ren walked to the corner and sat down to eat something. He rested quietly and let Xiang Yang do whatever she wanted.
Three hours later, Lu Ren, who had been sleeping lightly and had secretly set up simple alarms in the surroundings, was woken up suddenly by Xiang Yang’s voice.
“It’s done, it’s done! As expected, I’m a genius!”
Lu Ren looked up and saw that the screen had started to glow, and an activation interface had appeared.
Then, Xiang Yang shouted, “Qingxu, report the situation of the base!”
A calm male voice could be heard.
“Hello, Supreme Commander. The Haizhou City Research Center base currently has sufficient energy. Most of the facilities and equipment have been shut down and placed in sleep mode by me after they had been confirmed to be unmanned. All functions in the office area have been shut down except for the emergency lights and the ventilation equipment. All the project equipment in the scientific research project area has been shut down. The high-energy particle accelerator floor has stopped operating. The items in the supplies store are in good storage condition. The power assembly installation is in good condition.”
Lu Ren stood up and asked, “Who is this?”
“Hello, Commander. I’m the main Al brain of the Haizhou City Research Center base. My code name is Pure Void.”
“Al brain?!”
The AI technology of this world seemed to be a little too advanced.
Lu Ren raised his eyebrows and did not say anything. He looked at Xiang Yang quietly. At this moment, Xiang Yang was even more pleased. She turned around and winked at Lu Ren before starting to operate the entire surveillance center according to Pure Void’s instructions.
Lu Ren could not help but look at the surveillance camera in the corner of the ceiling above his head.
If there were no accidents, the main control brain, codenamed Pure Void, was connected to the entire research center base. There were surveillance cameras, equipment, and perhaps weapon alarms and so on.
In other words, the entire research center base was under the other party’s control.
Lu Ren’s eyes flickered slightly, but he did not say anything
When the surveillance system of the entire base had been completely activated, Lu Ren was surprised to find that the surveillance equipment had not been damaged at all.
“It has been 50 to 60 years, and it is still usable?”
Apart from the initial instability of the electric current causing the screen to jump, there were no other abnormalities.
Xiang Yang stared at the screen and said without replying, “This is a military product. If anyone dared to cheat in terms of quality, he would be seized and executed.”
“I’ve found it! I’ve found it!!”
Xiang Yang pointed in surprise at the surveillance screen in the middle. It showed the centrally aligned position of the high-energy particle accelerator on the third level.
There was an oval-shaped halo glowing with blue light floating in the middle.
Lu Ren’s heart skipped a beat.
“Is this the mystic realm passageway?”
“Yes, that’s right!”
Xiang Yang stared fixedly at the screen. Joy flashed past her eyes, and all that was left was the calmness she tried her best to maintain. Her hands were tightly clenched, and her eyes were a little red.
Lu Ren had been watching the changes in Xiang Yang’s emotions.
There was something wrong with this girl!
