Three days passed by in a flash.
It was already the night that Su Luo and Nangong Liuyun had agreed upon.
The night was pitch black, as if it was soaked with ink. A handful of stars hung in the overcast sky and twinkled dimly.
Out of the blue, a black shadow riding the wind moved across the night sky. He looked like a deity, his robes flapping.
In a short time, the shadow had quietly landed in a secluded courtyard in the Su Mansion.
“Come in.” Immediately, a chill voice sounded from inside the room without warning.
Nangong Liuyun entered and saw that Su Luo was holding a book, reading it attentively in the candlelight.
She was wearing a white chiffon dress, plain and simple. She looked a tad standoffish yet also sharp.
The dim and hazy candlelight enveloped her body and gave her a soft luster. She appeared blurred, elegant, and slightly aloof.
Due to her instincts as an assassin, Su Luo had detected Nangong Liuyun’s presence before he had opened the door.
Nangong Liuyun walked quietly to her from behind. As though she had eyes on the back of her head, Su Luo leisurely put down the book in her hand and motioned at him. “Sit.”
Nangong Liuyun cracked a playful smile. Wouldn’t he lose her respect now if he sat down as she had instructed?
Thus, Nangong Liuyun intentionally ignored the perfectly fine, empty chair and squeezed into the tiny space right next to Su Luo. He crammed himself into the seat with her.
“Nangong Liuyun, watch your manners. No touching is allowed.” Su Luo’s furrowed her arched eyebrows. She didn’t like to be physically close to other people and wanted to push him away.
Her hand, however, was stopped in midair. Nangong Liuyun had already grabbed it with his own broad hand.
Men had greater physical strength than women by nature.
Su Luo glared at him, vexed, but he just grinned mischievously.
“Don’t be so petty. I’m exhausted.” Nangong Liuyun’s soft, slender fingers lifted Su Luo’s smooth and pointed chin. A wicked smile crept across his mouth. He said in a low and husky voice, “I have been rushing and on my feet for tens of thousands of miles. Is this how you repay me?”
What had happened with Su Luo three days ago during the test in the Divine Testing Palace had been bizarre and mysterious.
At that time, Nangong Liuyun had left after sending Su Luo back home. He had told her that he would let her know the answer three days later.
Su Luo knew it must have been challenging for him to figure out what had happened. Therefore, she had kept that in mind and swore she would repay him in her own way.
With Nangong Liuyun lifting her chin, Su Luo’s eyes happened to be looking directly at his face.
Suddenly, she fell into a daze.
What he had said about rushing and being on his feet for tens of thousands of miles didn’t seem to be an exaggeration.
Three days ago, Nangong Liuyun’s face was handsome and well-proportioned. With his bright eyes and white teeth, he was full of energy, vitality, and an indescribable liveliness. The Nangong Liuyun she saw now, however, despite having the same bright eyes, white teeth, and handsome face, seemed to be gloomy and travel-worn. Looking him over carefully, she also noticed the dark circles around his eyes and a tinge of weariness on his face.
Although his inky eyes were strained with weariness, they still glowed with a faint and bewitching smile.
Su Luo’s heart trembled slightly.
She couldn’t say that she was not swayed by him, or that she wasn’t attracted to him at all. After all, she was a human being capable of feelings. But it would be far-fetched to call it love or affection.
In fact, Su Luo had yet to know that Nangong Liuyun’s trip consisted of far more than rushing over thousands of miles. The hardships that arose during his journey and the perils he faced on Luoxia Peak were beyond what she was currently capable of imagining.
For all that, with his charming and dashing smile, Nangong Liuyun didn’t show a shred of what he had gone through on his face. He hid it to such an extent that Su Luo was entirely ignorant of what had actually happened.
She just looked at him without saying a word.
Nangong Liuyun stared back at Su Luo with a smile as well.
The two sat like that, gazing at each other…
