Chapter 33: Hotel
Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation
The hotel they stayed in looked decent, and there were some local farm-style restaurants nearby where they could eat. Perhaps it was because there was a hot spring destination nearby, so these places were built for the convenience of tourists.
Nie Qing did not check into the hotel with the couple because he did not have any identification on him. All he could do was wait in the hotel lobby sadly.
Some people, men and women alike, walked around the hotel in their swimwear. Nie Qing looked at how they chatted happily as though this was normal, and his face turned red. Was the current lifestyle truly this immoral and obscene? The men walked around with only their underwear, and the women only had a top on too. They were even exposing their fair bellies…
The receptionist could tell that Lu Hao and Su Jin were here together, yet they asked for two separate rooms. She gave them another look. Hmm, a handsome man and a beautiful woman… They were made for each other, but they were not sleeping in the same room? That was rare these days.
The two of them took the room cards to the lounge in search of Nie Qing, only to see that he was chatting with a beautiful lady in a swimsuit and a bath towel, his face red as a beet.
“Your master got game,” Su Jin told Lu Hao with a laugh.
Lu Hao, “…”
The woman in the swimsuit was also waiting for someone here. When she saw the older man in the lounge staring at her with a red face, she found him amusing so she struck up a conversation with him.
Nie Qing noticed that his disciple and Su Jin had finally come back for him. He leaped to his feet and ran over to them, even telling the woman a quick, “Pardon me.”
The lady was confused. Who said ‘pardon’ anymore these days?
“Uncle Nie, this is your room card,” Su Jin said as she passed Nie Qing the card.
“And what, pray tell, is a room card?” Nie Qing asked with a tilt of his head as he held the thin card in his hand.
“Something like the keys to your inn room?” Lu Hao tried to explain.
“Ohh, I see. Are we going to the rooms now then?” Nie Qing asked.
“Let’s have something to eat outside first. We haven’t eaten anything all day.” Su Jin rubbed her flat stomach.
“Sure, sure! I haven’t had any food from beyond the mountain in a very long time too. Let’s go right away!” Nie Qing’s eyes lit up as soon as they mentioned eating.
Su Jin covered her mouth to stifle her laughter. This Nie Qing guy’s personality suited them just fine.
The three of them went to a local restaurant called Guests Aflock. Since they did not know if the food here was any good, Su Jin just ordered a few specialties from the menu, namely bamboo meatballs, galangal chicken, yong tau foo, carp soup, and a plate of stir-fried vegetables.
“Uncle, is there anything you don’t eat?” Su Jin asked.
“No, I eat everything,” Nie Qing replied as he examined the cutlery sealed away in plastic. Lu Hao explained everything to him patiently, even teaching him how to wash his cutlery in tea water before eating.
Nie Qing was about to drink the water in the cup. Phew, he nearly drank dishwashing water! That was close…
The food was soon served. The galangal chicken smelled the best, so Lu Hao pulled away the two drumsticks, giving Su Jin one and Nie Qing the other.
The drumstick meat was tasty and tender, permeating with the fragrance of ginger that just managed to obscure the odor of the chicken. Su Jin tried a few other dishes and had to admit that the food here was truly delicious. The bamboo meatballs looked extremely appetizing, with the minced meat rolled into balls and then steamed, garnished with some sauce and fresh scallions. The yong tau foo was perfectly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, with minced meat hidden within. The carp soup was cloudy and white, but it was not oily to drink. Su Jin took a sip and felt the richness of the flavor coat her entire mouth. Even the stir-fried vegetables were fresh and crisp.
Nie Qing ate until his cheeks puffed up. What was this heaven? He had never tasted anything like this before on the mountain.
“Uncle Nie, did you cook for yourself on the mountain?” Su Jin asked curiously.
“My Pinkie cooked for me, but once it burned its legs off while it was cooking, so I just ate fruits after that.” Pinkie was the wooden puppet wearing pink clothes that Su Jin and Lu Hao had met up there.
The poor puppet!
Lu Hao suddenly felt bad for his master. He could barely even eat a proper meal. Out of pity, Lu Hao instinctively gave him two more meatballs. Su Jin also picked up Nie Qing’s soup bowl and gave him a bowl of fish soup.
As Nie Qing gorged himself happily, the couple exchanged a smile. What a funny old man they had managed to pick up.
The three of them returned to the hotel. Both rooms were on the eighth floor, so they had to take the elevator up.
It was Nie Qing’s first time taking the elevator. It felt like he was ascending…
Once they got out of the elevator, they found the two rooms they had booked. First, Lu Hao taught Nie Qing how to use the card to open the door and start up the electricity. He even showed Nie Qing how to use the television, telephone, shower, and toiletries.
Nie Qing was astounded. Did all modern people enjoy such convenient luxuries on a daily basis?
Once Lu Hao taught Nie Qing how to use everything, he told his master to call them should he need anything. Then he closed the door for Nie Qing and returned to the room he shared with Su Jin.
Su Jin was lying in bed and talking on the phone with her uncle, Lin Cheng.
It turned out that Lin Cheng and Huang Yunxiang had gotten a lot done today as well. They went to the grains and oil market, getting another round of resources. Meanwhile, Su Jin’s parents ran to the clothes wholesaler and bought a ton of clothing. The first floor of their warehouse was almost full now, so they were planning to rent a forklift tomorrow to move some of the things to the second floor.
Su Jin hung up after she was done talking with her uncle. It looked like they had to pick up the pace.
After she sighed, she saw that Lu Hao was looking at her as he leaned against a chair. Suddenly, she had a bad feeling.
“Lu Hao, go ahead and get a shower.”
“Let’s shower together.”
“No, you go first. I wanna take a look inside the dimension.” Su Jin was not going to fall for it this time. She instantly vanished before Lu Hao’s eyes.
Lu Hao, “…”
Once inside the dimension, Su Jin realized that the chickens, ducks, and handful of piglets had already gotten used to the atmosphere inside. Earlier that day, Su Jin had entered the dimension too after sending them in here. The animals had been afraid to even move in these new surroundings, so she had asked Lu Hao to put up some fences around the back of Lu Mansion before moving the livestock inside in batches.
Now it seemed that the animals were doing just fine. That meant they had meat to eat now, hehe.
Su Jin did not dare to stay in the dimension for too long. Although she had drawn the curtains in the hotel room and looked around for hidden cameras, she still could not let her guard down. They were not at home, so she should be more careful.
When she left the dimension, she saw that Lu Hao had actually gone to shower on his own. In that case, Su Jin opened her bag and took out her notebook and pen to start listing things.
She wanted to make a list of supplies to buy, lest they missed out on anything.
Once she started making notes, she realized that there were indeed many things they had not bought yet. The basic needs were food, clothing, shelter, and transportation, right? The first three were fine, but what about the last one? Their family was huge, and they needed cars to get around in the apocalypse. Although everyone had a salon car of their own, those only worked for a while in the beginning of the apocalypse. If their cars broke down, they did not have any spares. In fact, they had not even hoarded any gas yet.
Then again, that meant she no longer had to worry about spending the rest of their eleven-or-so million.
Before they went to sleep that night, Su Jin explained this to Lu Hao, who said that they could consider buying a minibus and a few sturdy tanks.
Where were they supposed to buy tanks, though? No one really bought them, much less sold them.
Lu Hao chuckled and said mysteriously, “Leave it to me.”
“You’re wonderful, honey. Mwah!” Su Jin kissed him sweetly.
Lu Hao was certain that Su Jin would have him wrapped around her finger for the rest of their lives. Even a simple kiss left his head spinning. As he remembered everything that was good about Su Jin, Lu Hao decided to properly “repay” her with actions rather than words…
Well, that would teach her to kiss him out of the blue. Never again, Su Jin thought.
