Chapter 33: Mysterious
This spell had many names: the original mystic spell, the first and final mystic spell, Dibilos Peak’s Mystic arts and so on…
Many mystic scholars had different opinions on whether this spell could have a spell model, and they divided into two factions.
Among them, [Secret Keeper] Arcar Kengus, who was the head of the Secret Guardians, claimed that not all mystic arts had models. For example, some occult spells were just the manifestation of some mysterious laws.
Unless one could construct the complete rules to create the spell, there was no mysterious spell model at all!
The Truth Faction, led by [Controller of Secrets] Anderson Manduelson, firmly believed that all mystic arts had their standard models, and Mystic spells were no exception!
As long as he continued his research, one day, all the mysteries would be analyzed!
The two factions had been arguing with each other for hundreds of years. Since neither side could produce any conclusive proof, and the strongest of the two factions were both at the ninth rank, neither side could ‘convince’ the other.
The existence of a model was still a controversial topic.
However, even though the background was legendary, it could not hide the fact that it was of little value.
As a mystic spell, it had a very obvious advantage: its consumption was very low, so low that it could be cast at any level.
Its effect was also very simple—it randomly gave a certain ‘mysterious characteristic’ to a non-magical dead object. According to the level of the caster, the effect lasted from fiftheen minutes to one day.
The larger the object, the greater the consumption. If the object was damaged, the effects of the Mystic spell would disappear.
As for the so-called mysterious characteristics, they were actually some strange and inexplicable effects.
For example, the stone in Anvis’ hand. Through the next few minutes of research, he completely confirmed the effects of the mysterious spell on the stone.
Every half a minute, the stone would let out a frog’s cry.
In other words, it had changed from a stone to a mystic stone, right?
Anvis had the strange thought.
Next, he made use of the time and cast crack on the rock the next time it cried out.
Crack, a rank one earth element spell with the same effect as the spell’s name: Create a crack on soil or rocks.
The stone immediately split in half from the center, but there was nothing inside. The mysterious characteristic on the stone had also disappeared.
Now, he was sure that this was just an ordinary mystic spells.
“It’s this kind of trashy spell that occupies one of my initial foundational spell slots?”
This greatly disappointed Anvis, who had been full of anticipation, but he slowly came back to his senses and began to consider the problem in this matter.
As a spell that could even be used by a rank one mage, how could its model be so complicated?
Unless… it was not a spell model at all, but the laws themselves!
In other words, the fog was just something like a terminal? The fog itself was related to the endless cosmos deep within the fog, which was equivalent to a computer connected to a network?
Unexpectedly, that secret guardian faction who only knew how to play tricks actually got the truth!
Anvis shook his head.
By the way, past Anvis used to be a truth-seeker.
Very good. From now on, I’m also one of the few wise ones who know the truth!
Since it has become my initial foundational spell, how is it different from ordinary mystic spells?
Thinking about this problem, Anvis found two ordinary pieces of black iron, two high-quality magical crystals, two low-tier enchanted swords, two dry tree trunks, two growing bluebell flowers, and two adult beasts.
One of them had a white mark on its left back, and it looked rather dispirited.
Anvis’ experiment plan was to use one set of targets as a control group and cast normal mystic spells on them.
On the other hand, the other group of targets he would cast his foundational mystic spell. This way, the difference between the two groups could be seen directly.
Anvis cast two mystic spells on the six items, and the black iron and the tree trunk obtained the mysterious characteristics unsurprisingly.
One of the two pieces of black iron changed colors between black and green, while the other began to continuously leak water droplets.
The tree trunk stood up. Even if someone pushed it down, it would stand up again. The other tree trunk began to twist itself before twisting back to its original position.
When testing on bluebell and the beasts, it was also very normal for the casting to fail.
However, when it came to magic crystals and inscription swords, the result of the casting of his initial foundational mystic spell was different from ordinary mystic spells.
Success!
The high-quality magical crystal was an earth-element magical crystal. The faint yellow light on its surface was now like a lamp, flickering in and out rhythmically.
The inscription sword’s density and weight and other properties did not change, but its once hard blade became limp. When Anvis picked it up, its blade drooped like a dead snake.
Anvis tried to swing the blade twice. The blade followed his movements and spun in the air very freely.
Anvis tried to ‘whip’ it towards the black iron again. With a whoosh, under the effect of the Mystic spell, the black iron that was constantly leaking water was instantly split into two.
“The sharpness is the same as before. The mysterious characteristic is truly mysterious.”
After a simple test of attributes, Anvis placed the sword and the magical crystal together, then placed the other targets back to their original positions. The two lucky beasts were also thrown back into their cages.
… Half a hour had passed…
After a third of an hour had passed, the mysterious characteristic enchanted by the ordinary mystic spells disappeared and the items returned to their original form.
However, the mysterious properties of the other objects remained. The magical crystal was still flickering, and the Inscription Sword was still limp.
… A hour passed…
The two objects were exactly the same as before.
…
After two spells, the magic crystal finally stopped flickering, and the inscription sword became hard and straight again.
“In that case, there are two obvious changes. One is the extension of the duration of the spell, and the other is the expansion of the spell’s effective range.”
“But due to the mysterious nature of the mystic spell itself, it’s impossible to know if its effects have changed.”
Anvis noted these two points in his mind. He controlled a magic hand to send the object back to its original position.
