Chapter 50: Chapter 50 “It’s your dad.
Last night, Lin Xu kept telling him that she was in pain, and Ji Zeqiu thought she was just being too delicate.
Both of them fell down together, so the injuries they sustained should not be much different. The pain wasn’t unbearable, yet she seemed to be making a big fuss over it.
However, when daylight came and the lighting was sufficient, Ji Zeqiu realized that her injuries were much more serious than his.
Why was that?
He was stunned for a moment, then suddenly remembered that during the tumble down the slope, the pain on his body had lightened.
Could it be because she was protecting him?
But why…
Ji Zeqiu’s expression was vacant until Lin Xu furrowed her brows tightly in discomfort and let out a whimper, which snapped him back to reality.
He called out to the search and rescue personnel nearby, his expression anxious, “Quick, get her to the hospital!”
——
Ji Zeqiu met with an accident while filming and fell off a cliff.
The incident was quickly reported by the media, trending on hot search, and even Ji Tingyang saw it.
Under the butler’s persuasion, Ji Tingyang hesitantly made a call to him, and the first thing he asked was whether Ji was “dead or not.”
“That must disappoint you, not dead yet,” Ji Zeqiu said.
Unexpectedly, Ji Tingyang didn’t snap back but just told him to stay put in the hospital and not always trouble Lin Xu to take care of him.
It seemed Ji Tingyang didn’t yet know that Lin Xu had fallen with him.
Ji Zeqiu lowered his gaze and glanced at the still unconscious Lin Xu on the hospital bed, and vaguely agreed.
“What is she doing now, hand the phone to her,” Ji Tingyang said.
“She, she went to the restroom,” Ji Zeqiu nervously lied, “Call back later.”
He hurriedly hung up the call and exhaled a breath of relief.
If he told Ji Tingyang that Lin Xu had fallen off the cliff with him in order to protect him, it would mean she mattered more to herself than to Ji Tingyang.
Knowing Ji Tingyang’s temperament, he would surely get mad and go crazy, and with his possessiveness, he could never stand to see someone he liked being kind to others.
Maybe he would end up hating Lin Xu too.
And Ji Zeqiu would have achieved his goal of getting revenge on Ji Tingyang.
But looking at the deathly pale Lin Xu on the bed, and recalling the moment she leaped to grab him, those words just couldn’t leave his throat.
Ji Zeqiu, feeling irritated, ruffled his hair into disarray, muttering under his breath, “So annoying, so annoying!”
He clearly despised this woman, so why didn’t he take the opportunity to set them against each other?
Alright.
This time, he would consider it returning a favor to her. Next time, he would definitely get back at Ji Tingyang!
Ji Zeqiu mumbled to himself and turned to leave the ward.
By the time Lin Xu woke up, it was already two days later.
Her body was almost completely wrapped in gauze, and she was calm until she saw the bandages on her face, then she screamed in panic.
“I’m not going to be scarred for life, am I?!”
“What do I do, I’m so good-looking, if I’m scarred, that would be such a huge loss!”
Holding a mirror, Lin Xu’s eyes reddened, as if she was about to start crying any moment.
“Scarring would just stop you from going on to bother other people,” Ji Zeqiu laughed indifferently.
The next second, he received Lin Xu’s teary-eyed, fierce glare, “Do you have no conscience?!”
Ji Zeqiu shrugged, “Don’t worry, you won’t get scarred, nor will there be any scarring.”
The doctors had told him earlier that the wounds on her face were not deep, and with some ointment and proper care, they would heal well.
“Really?” Lin Xu was skeptical.
“Fake,” Ji Zeqiu glared at her, his tone annoyed.
“…”
Lin Xu fell silent, half-convinced, and shut her mouth, her gaze flitting back and forth to him, yet she didn’t dare to continue questioning.
Lin Xu had met with an accident while saving her own artist, so as an agent, she had to come and express gratitude, while also checking to see if she had any other requests.
Providing some monetary reward, or even an autographed photo with Ji Zeqiu, could be considered.
He stood by the side, waiting for the two to finish talking before he would chime in, but he hadn’t expected that they would barely exchange a few words before they almost started to argue.
He hurriedly interjected, trying to lighten the mood with what seemed like a joke, “It’s no big deal. If her face was ruined, just have Zeqiu marry her.”
His comment left both of them dumbfounded, “Huh?”
“Brother Zhao, I have someone I like, it’s better not to make such jokes,” Lin Xu said, her back sweating.
“Ji Tingyang?” Ji Zeqiu scoffed, unimpressed, “Even though I don’t like you either, I’m obviously much better than Ji Tingyang, okay? Your eyes would have to be blind to not see that.”
“It’s your dad,” Lin Xu rolled her eyes.
This statement expressed a fact.
But in Ji Zeqiu’s ears, these three words were interpreted as a curse, and his eyes bulged like copper bells, “You’re insulting people now?! Ji Tingyang is not that great!”
“Besides, what else can a woman like you do besides cry? You’re already annoying enough as it is, only Ji Tingyang can put up with you,” Ji Zeqiu said, his words dripping with disdain, and he muttered to himself at the end, “Wen Li is so much better than you by countless times.”
His muttering wasn’t loud, but Lin Xu still heard it, and laughed angrily.
“If I’m not mistaken, Wen Li doesn’t even like you, right? No matter how bad I am, I’m still stronger than someone who’s desperately acting like a sycophant,” she said.
“Who’s acting like a sycophant!” Ji Zeqiu’s face turned beet red, as if he was annoyed into fury.
“Whoever gets worked up is the one,” Lin Xu shrugged, imitating him.
“You, you, you…”
Ji Zeqiu’s chest heaved violently, pointing at her, he stuttered “you” for a long time before finally storming out, slamming the door behind him.
He indeed hated this woman!
The agent was stupefied.
It was just a joke, so how did their argument get more and more intense?
Lin Xu stayed in the hospital for a week. Besides the day she woke up, when Ji Zeqiu had come to see her, he never visited the hospital again.
The agent said that Ji Zeqiu’s injuries were not as serious as hers, and he had already returned to the set to continue filming.
She pondered that perhaps she had wounded his pride with the words “sycophant,” and that’s why he was angry with her.
Arguing isn’t good for the harmony between mother and son.
Lin Xu wanted to send him a message to smooth things over, but after sending it, she realized she’d been blocked.
“…” Helpless.
She could only be discharged and go home, waiting to talk to him after he finished filming.
Lin Xu didn’t dare to tell Ji Tingyang about her hospitalization, worried that he would drop his work and come to the hospital to take care of her.
So, she handled the discharge procedures alone.
Queueing to pay, then collecting medicine.
The hospital was bustling with people, some relatives in such a hurry that they even ran down the corridors; Lin Xu wasn’t paying attention, and her shoulder was bumped, causing her body to tilt to the side.
Lin Xu was startled, already imagining the various types of pain that would follow the next second.
However, the expected pain did not occur, as a sturdy and powerful palm supported her back, holding her up.
Lin Xu didn’t steady her footing and staggered into a firm and warm embrace.
“I’m sorry,” she apologized as she looked up, but her pupils dilated sharply upon seeing the person before her.
“Are you all right?” Xie Changyan looked down at her with gentle eyes.
