Chapter 51: Chapter 51 This Man is Sinister and Vicious
The man’s handsome face had distinct features, and his eyes were like stars; the clear amber orbs reflected Lin Xu’s shocked and beautiful visage as the corners of his lips curved up slightly in a quasi-smile.
Seeing the familiar face, Lin Xu’s pupils quivered and she exclaimed in a delighted voice, “Husband!”
Emotionally touched, she clutched his arms with both hands.
Xie Changyan paused for a moment, his lips spreading into a deeper smile, his tone carrying a hint of teasing, “Miss, this approach of hitting on someone is quite special.”
Hearing his words, Lin Xu finally recovered from her shock.
The man in front of her resembled her husband to an extent of about sixty to seventy percent, but upon closer inspection, there were several parts that were clearly different.
Most importantly, his tone and mannerisms were filled with unfamiliarity.
“Ji Yanli?” Lin Xu called out her husband’s name tentatively.
She received a confused look in response.
“My name is Lin Xu, does this name sound familiar to you?”
Xie Changyan’s handsome eyebrows knit slightly, and after pondering for a moment, he shook his head, “Sorry, I don’t remember.”
“Then what is your name?”
“Xie Changyan.”
Lin Xu was taken aback for an instant, the name sounding foreign to her. It wasn’t her husband’s name, it didn’t even share his surname, Ji.
Could she have really mistaken him for someone else?
A sliver of doubt rose from the depths of her heart, her hands gradually releasing their grip on his arm, and she took a few steps back, “I’m sorry, I may have mistaken you for someone else.”
The joyful expression that had brightened her face just moments ago vanished completely as Xie Changyan watched her put distance between them, her behavior becoming alien yet polite.
His right hand, which had just supported her back, folded slightly as Xie Changyan gathered his thoughts and smiled indifferently, “No problem.”
With that, he walked past Lin Xu and boarded the hospital elevator.
Lin Xu watched his hastened departure, her mind in turmoil.
Do people with similar looks really exist in this world?
Then she remembered Wen Li and Shen Qingtang, well, indeed they do.
If he truly were her husband, how could he not recognize her? He probably would have rushed to find her and their son by now, right?
Lin Xu turned away, holding onto that thought as she left the hospital.
A moment later, unable to put her mind at ease, she sent a message to Ji Tingyang.
[Can you help me look up someone named Xie Changyan?]
Xie Changyan entered the elevator, and just as the elevator doors were slowly closing, he glanced outside through his tawny eyes; Lin Xu’s graceful figure was already out of sight.
Next to him, the assistant who had witnessed everything shook his head and clicked his tongue, “I can’t believe how bold women are these days, calling any man ‘husband’.”
With Xie Changyan’s handsome and impressive looks, coupled with his distinguished family background, numerous women had tried to hook up with him, employing various tactics.
The assistant obviously categorized Lin Xu as that kind of woman, just trying to latch onto someone higher up.
He opened his mouth, intending to criticize further, but a side glance caught Xie Changyan’s indifferent and ice-cold gaze, which promptly shut him up.
Ding.
The elevator doors opened again, reaching the cardiac inpatient department.
With his long legs, Xie Changyan strode familiarly into a hospital room.
The room was spacious and bright, luxuriously decorated, far from the cramped space between ordinary beds, resembling more a private sanatorium than a hospital ward.
Lying in the hospital bed, Xie Mingwang showed not a trace of despondence; his majestic presence was palpable, and his eyes shone with vigor as he looked at the newspaper in his hands.
Seeing Xie Changyan come in, he huffed unhappily, his face filled with dissatisfaction toward him.
Xie Changyan chuckled, “It seems like you’re in good health, so it looks like there’s no need for me to visit you.”
“If you could settle down and marry earlier, I’d feel even better!” Xie Mingwang saw an opening and took the chance to urge marriage.
“I wish I could, but it’s not like anyone fancies me, right?” Xie Changyan walked to the bedside, emphasizing in a casual manner with a smirk that bordered on ridiculing.
“You ungrateful brat!” When it came to this topic, Xie Mingwang was filled with anger. He crumpled the newspaper in his hands and threw it at him, “I’ve heard that Miss Su from the Su Family has taken a liking to you, yet you, on the other hand, invited her out to some roadside stall and even had a street race!”
Having heard that the Su Family’s darling had taken a fancy to Xie Changyan after a banquet, Xie Mingwang thought of pairing the two together, looking to play matchmaker.
But this kid, on such a serious occasion as a blind date, took her to eat barbecue at a roadside stall for their first dinner, ending up with both reeking of unpleasant grill smoke.
That would have been tolerable.
Afterward, he was asked to take Miss Su home, and he drove at speeds reaching two hundred, with the poor girl turning pale and trembling with fear, eventually leaning against a wall to vomit after getting out of the car.
Not even an hour later, Xie Mingwang received a message from Miss Su, tactfully suggesting their incompatibility.
This rotten kid clearly went out of his way to sabotage the date, yet he has the nerve to claim she wasn’t interested in him.
Nonsense!
With a twist of his body, Xie Changyan dodged the paper ball; it brushed past his shoulder and rolled into a corner.
He chuckled softly and said leisurely, “Just focus on getting better and don’t worry about anything else.”
“If you don’t bring a girlfriend home, my illness won’t improve!”
“It’s just high blood pressure, you make it sound like a terminal illness. A couple of days’ rest here will do it.”
Xie Changyan was dismissive and wanted to tease some more, but under Xie Mingwang’s stern gaze, he obediently shut his mouth.
“Be honest with me, have you fallen for someone?”
“No.” A muffled chuckle escaped Xie Changyan’s chest.
Having said that, he lowered his eyes, the corners of his lips curving up as he stared at the mottled shadows on the ground, his mind flickering to the image of a woman with gauze pressed against her cheek.
The visible portions of her arms and neck were mostly wrapped in gauze, as though she had suffered some serious injuries.
He recalled their last chance meeting at the company’s entrance, where she had told him she was married with children.
Now it seemed she had been misfortunate in her relationships, not having anyone to care for her, even having to manage her own hospital discharge procedures.
Xie Changyan clicked his tongue in an unreadable tone and carelessly fiddled with his fingertips.
Meanwhile:
As soon as Ji Tingyang received a message from Lin Xu, he became instantly alert.
JTY: [Xie Changyan? Why are you checking on him?]
JTY: [Did he bully you?]
Remembering the man who always had a smile in his eyes, nonchalant and shrewd, Ji Tingyang felt repulsed and annoyed.
This person may present a gentle and smiling façade, but his schemes are deep and numerous.
In their past dealings, Ji Tingyang had been outmaneuvered by him, losing a project, and now, a new energy project that was nearly within his grasp was snatched away by Xie’s, deepening his animosity toward him.
Seeing Lin Xu reach out for information about this man, Ji Tingyang instantly became wary, fearing that his mother might have been made a target of this man’s scheming as well.
Upon seeing his message, Lin Xu was somewhat surprised, then replied.
[You know him?]
JTY: [If you’re talking about Xie Changyan from Xie Group, yes, I do know him. That man is ruthless and cunning, you must stay away from him!]
Lin Xu was surprised.
Ruthless and cunning?
Thinking back on Ji Yanli’s mature and gentle demeanor, she might have indeed mistaken him for someone else.
She nodded.
