Chapter 66: Chapter 66: Falling for someone else?!
Wen Li’s eyes brimmed with tears that twinkled like dewdrops, slowly sliding down from her eyelids, soaking the clothes on Ji Zeqiu’s shoulder.
“Who bullied you? I’ll go settle the score with them!” Ji Zeqiu looked anxious.
“No one bullied me, it’s my own problem,” Wen Li shook her head.
Her phone, tucked away in her pocket, rang. She stepped back from Ji Zeqiu’s chest and took out her phone.
It was a call from Xiao Yu.
Ji Zeqiu also saw the name displayed on the incoming call, and his expression fell. He had already pictured Wen Li answering the call and then leaving.
Each time Xiao Yu called Wen Li, she would leave him behind, and it had become a habit.
However, Wen Li seemed not to have seen Xiao Yu’s name at all, as she directly hung up the call.
Without needing to ask, Ji Zeqiu knew she must be having a conflict with Xiao Yu. Beneath his calm facade, a hint of pleasure was hidden.
“Are you hungry? I’ll take you to a restaurant for dinner, okay?” His gaze was gentle, his lips slightly upturned, giving off a tender feeling.
Wen Li nodded, and got into Ji Zeqiu’s car.
During the meal, she remained silent, only speaking out urgently when Ji Zeqiu asked if she wanted to be taken back to school.
“No! I don’t want to go back to school.”
“Then where do you plan to stay tonight?” Ji Zeqiu asked.
Wen Li thought of her parents at home who favored boys over girls, and her lazy brother, and she dismissed the idea of going back to live there.
She bit her lip and shook her head with a lost look on her face.
“Then… how about staying at my place for the time being?” Ji Zeqiu tentatively suggested.
Wen Li glanced at him, as if hesitating.
“You can go back to school whenever you want,” he quickly added.
“Mm, thank you,” Wen Li said, her mood low, and she nodded.
Ji Zeqiu quickly brought her back to the apartment and pushed the door open.
Upon entering, they saw Lin Xu eating dinner.
Ji Zeqiu froze.
In his excitement, he had completely forgotten about Lin Xu.
Lin Xu also paused, seeing her son, who had just texted her saying he was busy with work and not coming home, not only back but also holding a woman in his arms.
That woman was none other than Wen Li, whom she disliked.
When Wen Li saw Lin Xu, she too was taken aback, the shock in her eyes fleeting.
A brief silence fell among the three of them, as if even the air had stilled for a moment.
The first to break this frozen atmosphere was the housekeeper, noticing their awkward expressions, “Ah, Mr. Ji, you told me not to prepare your meal, so I only cooked a portion for one.”
“It’s okay, we’ve eaten outside already,” Ji Zeqiu came in with Wen Li, telling the housekeeper, “Her name is Wen Li, she’ll be staying here for a while. Please take good care of her.”
The housekeeper nodded in agreement, her gaze surreptitiously turning to Lin Xu, who continued to eat unhurriedly, her curiosity ablaze.
Mr. Ji brought another woman home, could it be that there was a problem in his relationship with Miss Lin?
Or could it be a change of heart?!
The housekeeper’s desire for gossip surged, and she couldn’t help wanting to discuss it with friends. But recalling the confidentiality agreement in her contract and the hefty penalty for breaching it, she could only suffer in silence watching the drama unfold.
Having said that, Ji Zeqiu led Wen Li to choose a bedroom.
The bedroom door shut, blocking the view and noise of the living room. As soon as she entered, Wen Li hesitantly asked him, “Lin Xu, why is she here?”
Ji Zeqiu, afraid of being misunderstood, hurriedly explained, “I had heard she bullied you at Ji Family’s house and used tricks to drive you away. In a moment of anger, I snatched her from Ji Tingyang’s side, wanting to take revenge for you.”
“There’s nothing between her and me, believe me! If you don’t like it, I’ll send her away right now.”
A look of panic spread across his face, as if he was about to raise his hand and swear.
Wen Li’s gaze flickered.
The incident where she accidentally pushed Ji Tingyang into the water was known by very few. The majority of the Ji Family’s servants were also in the dark, concocting their own version of events based on their imagination.
So even Ji Zeqiu didn’t know about the incident, but she had never expected him to claim he was taking revenge for her.
“Actually…”
Wen Li’s red lips parted slightly, but upon seeing Ji Zeqiu’s gentle and eager face, she swallowed the words back down.
Ji Tingyang was his brother; what if he found out and ended up hating her?
Wen Li twisted the hem of her clothes, the smile on her face somewhat forced, “No need to explain, I believe you.”
Ji Zeqiu breathed a sigh of relief and also broke into a smile.
Although Wen Li said she believed him, Ji Zeqiu still felt it was inconvenient to have Lin Xu stay.
So, while Wen Li was packing her things, he pulled Lin Xu aside, “Weren’t you always reluctant to leave Ji Tingyang? I’m letting you go back now. Pack your things and leave later.”
Lin Xu clicked her tongue and shook her head, “You want me to leave as soon as Wen Li arrives, that’s so ungrateful. Have you forgotten who promised to visit you when you were sick, then stood you up, and who took care of you all night?”
“You, I…” Ji Zeqiu also remembered the incident, his expression awkward, “You like Ji Tingyang so much, isn’t it good if I send you back…”
“No way.” Lin Xu gave him a disdainful look, “What if Wen Li means to harm you?”
It’s easy to invite a deity over but hard to send one away; there’s no way she’d leave so easily, especially since she didn’t trust Ji Zeqiu to be alone with Wen Li.
“Harm me?” Ji Zeqiu was puzzled.
“Don’t you know that Wen Li pushed Ji Tingyang into the swimming pool and almost killed him, which is why she was driven out of the Ji Family in the first place?” Lin Xu said.
“That’s impossible.” Ji Zeqiu dismissed the idea, “Wen Li is so gentle and kind-hearted, how could she do such a thing? She even feeds stray cats she sees on the street.”
“You…”
“Forget it, if you refuse, then it’s no big deal. I’ll just buy another apartment and move in with Wen Li,” he muttered softly.
“Really? I think the apartments in Jiangbin District are quite nice. When are you buying? I’ll move in too,” Lin Xu considered a moment.
Ji Zeqiu glared at her, huffing, “I’m not going to let you move in!”
Just as they were staring each other down, a cry of surprise from Wen Li came from the living room.
Ji Zeqiu hastily turned and ran towards Wen Li in a panic, “What’s wrong?”
“No need to rush, I just accidentally bumped into the cabinet, I’m fine,” Wen Li pointed to the shoe cabinet at the entryway, where she bumped her head while trying to change shoes.
“Where are you going?” Ji Zeqiu asked, puzzled.
Was it because she saw Lin Xu here that she didn’t want to stay at his house?!
“I came without bringing anything, so I was thinking of going down to buy some toiletries,” Wen Li explained.
“I’ll go down and buy them for you!”
Without another word, Ji Zeqiu headed out the door, as Lin Xu shook her head at his love-struck foolishness.
Once Ji Zeqiu left, only Lin Xu and Wen Li were left alone in the living room…
